Initiative: Preschool for all kids in the state
ROB REINER TO LAUNCH PUSH FOR '06 BALLOT
By Luis Zaragoza
Mercury News
Motivated by studies that suggest prepping children for kindergarten is key to their future academic and personal success, film director Rob Reiner planned to announce today that he is launching a campaign to make free, half-day preschool programs available to every 4-year-old in California.
``We've spent a year discussing this -- in a sense, doing what any legislature would do,'' said Reiner of the committee of labor, business and education experts that helped shape an initiative he hopes to get on the June 2006 ballot.
``Preschool for All'' -- which despite the name has age restrictions -- would include an age-appropriate curriculum that fosters a love of learning and proper socialization. The curriculum is what would distinguish the program from ordinary day care, initiative supporters said.
Reiner's initiative would target children in the year before they enter kindergarten -- a crucial time for developing good learning habits, according to independent research by public and private agencies.

It's a good thing California state government is awash in excess funds. </sarcasm>

Four year old kindgertarten = more employment for teachers, more money for teachers union.
It's a win-win for everyone except taxpayers and kids.
the state's wealthiest residents would pay for the expanded programs through a 1.7 percent additional tax on income over $400,000 for individuals and over $800,000 for couples filing jointly. Reiner said they can afford to pay, especially after being the biggest beneficiaries of federal tax cuts.

Great idea, more money into education. Looks like Meathead is just blindly following the People's Party line.

Hey Meathead, will your initiative include funds for religious-based preschools?

Because after all California has no state legislature.

They are starting to push that in Tennessee, too. Here is the letter I wrote to them at
Pre-K for TN
Whats the matter? Getting our children and doping them up at 5 years old not enough for you? Now you have decided that you need to get them at FOUR to properly indoctrinate them. Why stop there? Why not just take them as the parents bring them out of the hospital at birth? After all, you cant trust just ANYBODY to properly raise their children, can you, because it takes a village, right? No, thanks. Ill raise my own children without the governments help.

What in heck has Robber Reiner done with all the money he has been stealing from smokers for years that was supposed to be "for the children?"
Oh that's right - he doens't have to account for that........

Liberals will not be happy until babies begin indoctrination immediately after birth.

Well, it's now official. "Childhood" in CA officially ends at age three and then the socialist indoctrination starts. *Rolleyes*

It is more than that. It is another year in which to indoctrinate your kids at a younger and even more impressionable age.

Well, sure!
Can't get started too soon with the brain-washing!
Ugggh.
Wish Reiner would go back to making movies.
"The Princess Bride" is a favorite herre.

I love this idea, but with one slight change. Those who vote for it get to pay for it. And I mean directly pay for it. If you vote for this proposal your tax rate will rise 5%, no matter how much you make. I think that will put an end to these wealthy liberals trying to spend other people's money.
