SSPX PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ
On the death of Pope John Paul II
Menzingen[, Switzerland] Easter Saturday 2 April, 2005
The Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X and his two assistants, together with all its members: bishops, priests, brothers, sisters as well as the faithful, join in the prayer of the Universal Church at the announcement of the passing of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II. We commend his soul to the mercy of God the Father and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
There will be a Requiem Mass said in each house of the Society for the repose of the soul of the Holy Father.
The Society of Saint Pius X, founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, applauds the fight undertaken by Karol Wojtyla for the protection of life and his efforts in the moral sphere. Nonetheless, it feels it a duty to repeat that it has always disapproved of the indefatigable efforts of Pope John Paul II towards ecumenism, efforts which have led to a weakening of the Faith and of the defence of Truth.
The Society is aware of the superhuman task awaiting the future Supreme Pontiff and prays the Holy Ghost to enlighten the Cardinal Electors. It hopes the new Vicar of Christ will be able to take up the helm of the Church with a steady hand and make good the damage caused in the wake of the Second Vatican Council: liturgical unity and the unity of Faith have been dissolved and doctrinal errors have spread amongst all the clergy.
While we wait and hope for this, it is now time to pray for him who has just entered eternity.
Bishop Bernard Fellay Superior General of the SSPX
No need to worry. The Novus Ordo hit squad has insured that most of us are banned. Those who remain will get banned if we dare to refute the lies told about us.
Carry on.
Thank-you for posting this.
In the wake of all the John Paul II premature canonization threads, it is a great service you provide to post a statement that not only presents a "fair and balanced" view, but indeed reminds and implores all Catholics of our obligation to pray for the repose of the soul of the Holy Father. If you loved him, pray for his soul.
That is the dumbest thing you have EVER posted.
I have a real issue with people who worship anyone other than God because she has an 'in' with him or something...
You made a statement as well, an ignorant one, besides asking a question.
I don't see any Orthodox statements on this thread Salvation, why are you bringing them into this discussion? Besides that's not very ecumenical of you to use that word.
Yeah "bump that assessment". Good job of stirring the poopy-pot sister.
While your "Miss Holiest of Catholics" schtick is amusing, it comes across as phoney to me.
Because that is Catholic teaching, and we after all are CATHOLIC
[snip] The Pope is already in heaven enjoying the fellowship there with the saints that have gone on before.
and that assumption is completely contrary to Catholicism.
This is Catholic doctrine on the subject, what one accepts as truth if one is a Catholic:
The teaching of the catholic church can never trump the simple direct easy to be understood teachings of The Lord Jesus in the gospels. Why add to and complicate what the Master the Lord Jesus has given to us ?? The Holy Ghost will teach you all things (give you understanding/ insight) of what is written there. Why not take advantage of the fact that God Himself lives within your spirit and give Him a chance to give you insight and revelation into the wonderful scriptures ???? You were confirmed were you not ?? Did you not receive the Holy Ghost then ????
By what authority do you claim that your interpretation of Scripture is true? The teaching of the Catholic Church does not trump, but proclaim the teachings of Our Lord, by His authority that He conferred to His Church.
In any event, the Pope was Catholic. Why do you think it unreasonable that Catholic Church teaching to pray for his soul be followed by other faithful Catholics? You have no dog in this fight.
We ask Mary to pray for us or intercede for us, just as you might ask a friend to pray or intercede for you. Mary is more alive than any earthly friend, and she's also the Mother of God.
Open your Bible to the book of Revelation and you will see the saints in heaven presenting our prayers to Jesus.
Revelation 5:8And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twentyfour elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
It was not my intention to engage in apologetics with non Catholics, but I will ask you one more time, is it not reasonable to expect faithful Catholics to follow Catholic doctrine and pray for the repose of the soul of the head of the Catholic Church on earth? (regardless of whether or not you accept it as true).
"But there's no question that the leaders of SSPX think that they are right and everybody else is wrong."
Of course they think they are right.
They believe what virtually all Catholics believed forty or so years ago.
And who is "everybody else"?
Quite a few of us (who have no option but to attend the mostly banal, frequently illicit and occassionally invalid Masses sanctioned and promoted by so many of our reprobate bishops) agree with them.
The catholic (NB lowercase "c") Church preceded the gospels. Therefore, the sacred truths and the practices and the dogma are foundational to the written word. This written word was provided to the Church already founded in the teachings and traditions of Christ.
My response: Do you ever do that ??? Are you interested in winning people over to the catholic side of the fence ??
Yes, but that was not my concern in this instance. On this thread, I was directing my comment to Catholics, my concern was for the soul of the deceased Vicar of Christ on earth, the Holy Father.
Do you ever hear the voice of God (not the voice of men here) and if you have, do you, would you, follow that direction
Yes, I have and I do as it authoritatively spoken through His Church on earth.
on your own or would you submit the message to your pastor first ?
I submit my will in obedience to the authority Our Lord established on earth, His Church, built on the rock that is Peter, "the pillar and ground of the truth", to whom He gave "the keys of the kingdom", and the power to bind and loose. But if an individual even a priest/ pastor, "or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema", and I would reject it.
