1997 Russia Visit Reportedly Backed by Business Interests

A six-day trip to Moscow in 1997 by then-House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) was underwritten by business interests lobbying in support of the Russian government, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the trip arrangements . . . . .

I guess the results of the investigations of the first two trips didn't yield any scandal for the Dems. They'll just have to keep trying.

On CNN, Robin Meade was reporting that his wife and daughter received 'a quarter of a million dollars' between 2001-2005 from his political action committee. I thought, is that 250k total? It was not said. Then I thought, well, that comes out to what,,,,250K over 4 years = 62.5k per year (total?) - divide that by 2 people and his wife and daughter each received 31.75k per year for working on his campaign....is this supposed to create a stir???? I like how they use 'a quarter of a million' to make it sound like his family is bilking his supporters. That's how the news gets slanted.

Pelosi helped donor to PAC
Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, April 5, 2005 | By Stephen Dinan

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helped secure $3 million last year for a nonprofit transportation-research organization whose president gave money to her political action committee as the group was paying for a European trip for one of her policy advisers. Transportation adviser Lara Levison's nine-day, $4,475 trip to Spain and Germany last April to learn about hydrogen-fuel cells for buses was primarily paid for by WestStart-CALSTART. But just days before the trip, WestStart-CALSTART announced that Mrs. Pelosi had helped the nonprofit group secure $1 million from the Federal Transit Administration for a bus rapid-transit program. A month after the Levison trip, the group sent out a press release thanking her for a $2 million grant for a fuel-cell program.

Last year, Berger made a $100,000 contribution to America Coming Together (ACT), a 527 group that was dedicated to defeating George W.Bush in the presidential election, according to politicalmoneyline.com, a Web site that tracks fund-raising. According to records released by the Internal Revenue Service on Monday, March 21, 2005, and obtained by NewsMax.com, Soros Fund Management/George Soros gave the group a whopping $7.5 million in the 2004 election cycle.

Gee ... And wasn't it not too long ago that we saw on C-span ... Hellary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Bob Bryd, Dick Durbin, Harry Reid and other get in bed with Moveon.org ???

Great Research kcvl!!

He must scare the hell out of liberals!

He is the only GOP congressional leader with balls. Look at Frist and the rest of the pillow-biters in the Senate. The Dimwits, with the aid of the MSM, are trying to Newt him.

DeLay is as clean as can be. This is all manufactured nonsense, and it won't work.

So you're saying that he didn't take influence-peddling trips to Britain and Russia paid for by lobbyists and foreign agents tied to Jack Abramoff? It's all a lie?

OK. If it's true, it doesn't look good, but what did it buy the money man?

I dislike influence-peddling on our side of the aisle even more than on the dim side. We have to hold ourselves and those we support to a higher standard.

That being said, let's get a full accounting. Upthread, Grampa Dave shows some of what Pelosi's money men were able to buy from her. I want to see the critics of Congressman Delay open their own books. Prove to me that those casting stones have no sin. Otherwise, I will continue to ignore them until they crawl back under the rock from whence they slithered.

"Al Gore knew about the former USSR's funneling of aid money into research in nuclear and bio-weapons but agreed with the Russians to keep it from Congress so that the money would keep coming"

WOW! I remember that. And .. I also remember that the slimy media kept the info hidden.

Oh yeah. It ran in the Washington Times, nobody anywhere else including Fox News would touch it. During Gore's run for president, the media was going on about Gore's experience in foreign policy and how it was such a big advantage in the election. Bull cookies. With experience like this, I'm so glad he wasn't elected. Ronald Reagan showed us that you don't need experience with foreign policy. What you need is traditional integrity and principles and the ability to not waver.

Pelosi's husband is one of those super rich dark siders. They apparently own property all over and including the wine country. If they own a vineyard or wine producing company, (Which I don't know either way). How many pro vineyard and wine bills has Pelosi Galore approved.

It has been rumored that when Boxer and other congressional rats in need of money visit the Peloshi's or a Peloshi's friend with the rich elite of the wine industry present with their checkbooks present. Boxer's last visits to the wine country were handled like a state secret. We heard about them after they were over and nothing re where they were held and who was there.

"So you're saying that he didn't take influence-peddling trips to Britain and Russia paid for by lobbyists and foreign agents tied to Jack Abramoff? It's all a lie?"

Oh, it's far more than just lies, it's also the sorts of innuendo (not unlike what you managed to put in your above remarks) and propaganda that we've grown accustomed to the Corrupt Old Media publishing.

Has DeLay taken trips to foreign countries on official government business and for personal vacations? Yes. Were any of those trips illegally financed or used for illegal purposes? No.

Every moment of Tom DeLay's life is being scrutinized by the Left's most underhanded operators, and so far the most damaging personal "flaw" that they've managed to find is that he accepted a ride on someone's corporate jet BACK IN 1997!

Which is to say, DeLay is squeaky clean. The Left merely sets itself up for future cries of hypocrisy by niggling so here.

It open season on Delay, from the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the networks.

The liberal machine is acting like a hungry shark that just smelled blood in the waters.

Dumb, dumb Democrats. They just focus on one guy they hate with a passion in the hopes of somehow defeating him in his district. But, even if they do, we'll get someone just like him in his place! Bill Bradley put it well when he said that the Dems are clean out of new ideas.

Democrats will say it is wrong when anyone does it, but it is really wrong when a Republican does it, because Republicans claim to be Christians and moral people, and that makes them hypocrites. To a liberal, the greatest sin is hypocrisy. So they use our higher standards against us. It's very evil.
