1997 Russia Visit Reportedly Backed by Business Interests

A six-day trip to Moscow in 1997 by then-House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) was underwritten by business interests lobbying in support of the Russian government, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the trip arrangements . . . . .

He took a trip EIGHT years ago . . . he talked to some people . . . . most members of Congress also take trips and . . . . talk to people . . . . (Ms. Pelosi sends her staff on trips paid by lobbyists to talk to people) . . . . another non-new non-news attempt to smear a good man.

Boy they're really lighting up the presses with this Delay stuff... amazing how soon on the heels of a Democrat party threat this comes. Don't they even want to appear not to be in direct control of MSM outlets?

NYT front-page splash, WP headline selling a story on a junket from 1997...

Contrast this with almost ZERO MSM coverage for Juanita Broderick.

Sheesh.

Excuse me .. [now I'm yelling - but not at you]

AL GORE WAS SENT TO RUSSIA BY BILL CLINTON - TO ATTEND A SECRET MEETING WITH THE HEAD OF RUSSIA - AND THEY SIGNED AN AGREEMENT - WHICH CONGRESS DID NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT. THIS WAS TOTALLY OUT OF THE SCOPE OF THE POWERS OF THE PRESIDENT.

BUT AL GORE AND BILL CLINTON WERE EXCUSED AND THE WHOLE THING WAS KEPT UNDER WRAPS BY THE LYING SLIMES IN THE MEDIA.

And .. now I'm supposed to get upset because some Russian lobbyist paid for an airplane trip 8 years ago - for what purpose - DID TOM SIGN AN AGREEMENT BEHIND THE GOVERNMENT's back like Al Gore ..?? NOOOOOOO!!! HE DID NOT. Sheeeeeeesh!!

This junk just proves to me how desperate the dems are - they have to have somebody to demonize in order to raise money. Tom just got the short stick - but Tom can take it.

A trip from 8 years ago gets more news play than Clinton bag boy Sandy Bergler pleading guilty to stealing secret documents.

And they say there's no media bias...isn't that cute!?

Qaty Queriq will lead off the Today show tomorrow with this DeLay story.

One of my buddies saw Pelosi in Jordan last week. What was she doing there? Who paid?

I may be incorrect, but the President can make agreements with foreign leaders as long as it's not a "Treaty." I thin it happens all the time.

The attacks on Delay are retribution for the defeat of Daschle.

Why do they attack him?

For the same reason Bill Clinton connives immature post teenagers to perform fellatio on him...........Because he (they) can.

Let's see. The WashPost has the above and the NY Slimes has the below.

Where is the LA Slimes? Did they miss the memo saying that April 6 was the day for hit pieces on Delay?

Here is the FR thread on the NY Slimes entry in the anti-Delay hit piece contest.

None of us know the specifics yet, but come on. If delay did anything illegal, we ought not defend him. I am not going to excuse this because other people do it as well. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying throw him to the dogs. It is important that we keep our standards high for our own leaders.

1997?

That's what I call digging...

Okay, so, we have commercials of fake republicans calling for actions against getting rid of the filibuster; commercials by AARP scaring the seasoned citizens about re-forming SS, old stories of trips by Delay (Nancy Pelosi, please call your office), non-stop articles by reuters and ap about how bad Iraq is and the best I can tell, Sandy Burglar goes largely unnoticed as well as out and out obstruction by the democartic party elected to office when it comes to Particular posts to the u.n....

Yeah, no collusion by the Dem's and the MSM..

What a crock; the Corrupt Old Media is on a partisan witch hunt against DeLay, and you want to give them credibility for it?!

DeLay is as clean as can be. This is all manufactured nonsense, and it won't work.

I agree that if DeLay did something wrong we shouldn't support him blindly, but this story is pretty sketchy at best.

Sources connected to the trip

Who?

Throughout the story there are quotes around phrases such as "fancy dinner" and other such nonsense. Who exactly said these words that are quoted? I've read big-deal page one stories that knock the socks off somebody, and this ain't one. This smells like another dud in what's turning out to be a long fishing expedition.

I think the specifics were pretty well laid out in the article and once again it's trial by innuendo and non news sensationalism to create an appearance of wrongdoing that does not exist.

It's become such a BLATANT attempt by the mainstream media to smear DeLay with ANYTHING that they are starting to look like a bunch of yapping little media mutts snapping at the heels of a Great Dane. Rathergate was a joke compared to this smear campaign.

Most Congressman take trips and talk to lobbyists. That's how DC works.

Where is the ongoing coverage of Hillary's "Hollywood Gate" where her campaign underreported $500,000 in fundraising?

Where is the ongoing converage of Pelosi's fundraising and lobbysit activity that is FAR more suspicious than anything DeLay has done?

Where is the daily coverage of Clinton and Kerry's adviser stealing and shredding classified docunents and then lying to cover it up

There are many more examples of this absolute blatant ignoring of real issues in an attempt to smear DeLay with non-issues.

I hope it motivates conservatives to come out in droves to overwhelmingly support him in the next election.

Speaking of Old Media collusion to spike negative stories against Democrats...what *was* in Rockefeller's leaked memo to his Democratic Senate Judiciary Committee peers about holding up a confirmation until *after* a particular court ruling had been issued without the new judge being able to weigh in yet (i.e. not yet confirmed)?
