I'm still sad and in disbelief that the rescue fell apart. It was on it's way. We were waiting there for ambulances but instead two Sheriff's cruisers arrived.
There's much work to do. There are many work groups here carrying on for Terri.
The April Daily Thread as before will be a meeting place, a news digest and even in the midst of sorrow, a place to make friends.
I want to thank everyone who did everything humanly possible for Terri and her family. Terri's safe now from a room with the blinds closed, strange people and armed guards. She'd still be here if it wasn't for judicial despots who it appears have never read the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. or Florida Constitution.
Freepers, Republicans and Democrats alike voted against Terri or didn't do enough to save her from Judge Greer.

I have disdain for the Naughty Nine Republicans in the Florida Senate who vote "No" which barred Terri from legislative relief. The GOP House Members who voted "No" on Terri, shame on them too.

I have always thought so much of Tancredo, because he is pro-life and pro-secure borders.
When I clicked on his website for another reason, and saw his wishy washy statment re: DeLay, I was shocked, and e-mailed him right away to tell him how I felt.
And, yes the left from both sides of the aisle get away with MURDER - literally.

I hope Floridians remember the politicians who voted against Terri, and write letters to editors and call talk shows to remind voters JUST BEFORE THEIR ELECTION of what they did.
Schiavo Autopsy Will Not Confirm Diagnosis

PINELLAS PARK, Fla,-Neurologists say the autopsy that is planned to be performed on Terri Schiavo will not definitively confirm a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state.
"Persistent vegetative state or minimally conscious state is a clinical diagnosis," says Michael De Georgia, MD, head of the neurology/neurosurgery intensive care unit at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. "It cannot be confirmed by autopsy."
Patients in a persistent vegetative state are a subgroup who suffer severe anoxic brain injury and progress to a state of wakefulness without awareness.
Michael Schiavo, husband and guardian of Terri Schiavo, and Mary and Bob Schindler, Ms. Schiavo's parents, engaged in a contentious public and legal dispute over the decision to remove Ms. Schiavo's feeding tube, but both said they wanted an autopsy and both say the post-mortem exam will provide evidence to finally nail down Ms. Schiavo's diagnosis.
Michael Schiavo said all along that his wife was in a persistent vegetative state and that she would not want to be maintained in that state. The Schindlers contended that their daughter was minimally conscious and would not agree to have her feeding tube removed.
The tube was removed by court order on March 18 and neither the intercession of Congress nor more than a score of court challenges succeeded in replacing the tube.
"The [pathologic examination of the] brain can't tell if there is a persistent vegetative state or not," says Harvard neuropathologist E. Tessa Hedley Whyte, MD. "The autopsy will show damage -- probably mostly scarring now -- and that damage will most likely correspond to some extent to what was seen on images."
According to court records, CT scans performed in 1996 and 2002 revealed "diffuse encephalomalacia and infarction consistent with anoxia, hydrocephalus ex vacuo, neural stimulator present."
Dr. De Georgia says that the extent of brain damage, confirmed on autopsy, "does reflect the absence of viable brain cells and the fewer brains cells a patient has the less likely it is that the patient will be conscious. But there is no standard cutoff that says if you lose this many brain cells you are in a persistent vegetative state."
Michael Williams, MD, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, puts it this way. "If you only had the brain to look at and you didn't know anything about the history of the patient, pathology alone cannot prove or disprove a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state."
Dr. Williams says it is likely that autopsy will show "widespread damage to the cortex -- a condition called laminar necrosis -- and it is likely that there will also be significant damage to the thalamus."
While Dr. Williams says the autopsy can't confirm the diagnosis of persistent vegetative state, he says that receiving an autopsy report sometimes helps a family that is struggling to accept the diagnosis. "Sometimes additional evidence from a CT scan or an autopsy report -- something concrete -- helps bring some final understanding or acceptance," he says.

Cause of death?
Victim was starved and dehydrated.
But greer, felos, michael and the vampires that suck off killing people, will make Terri's autopsy about the extent of her brain damage, NOT THE CAUSE OF HER DEATH. Greer has dropped upon the coroner, via the news, that all investigations, summarized, found nothing amiss. (Although we all know michael the monster REFUSED to allow any investigators access to Terri....so this is a big lie)...
I doubt, that CAUSE OF DEATH is even going to be mentioned.
But it would BE WONDERFUL if it was pointed out in his autopsy report...because THAT and THAT alone was WHY TERRI DIED. A HORRIBLE DEATH.
Abuse enough, in my book, in ANYONE'S BOOK.
There is NO DIGNITY in starving and refusing water to a healthy human being.
There is only cruelty and lack of compassion.
It is called...torture. And the result was...as intended...DEATH.

Thought I'd pass this along - came across a bunch of envelopers from varying parts of the Republican Party all asking for answers to questions (EXCLUDING illegal immigration) and asking for a donation. The laws of all but ten states may allow doctors and hospitals to disregard advance directives when they call for treatment, food, or fluids, according to a report issued by the NRLC Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics April 15, 2005.
In the wake of the Terri Schiavo case, authorities have urged Americans to complete advance directives, like living wills, to state in which circumstances they would want medical treatment, food, and fluids if they become incapable of making these decisions. However, the Powell Center report charges that, increasingly, health care providers who consider a patient’s “quality of life” too low are defying these directives to deny treatment against patient and family wishes.
A national Polling Company poll conducted April 8-11, 2005 (n 500; m/e 4.5%) shows 76 % of those told “A seriously ill patient has indicated they want food and fluids but the doctor thinks the patient’s quality of life too low” say the patient should be able to receive food and fluids. Only 14% felt the doctor should be allowed to withhold them. Their position was similar concerning a patient who wants “life support” when the doctor says quality of life is too low: by 77% to 14%, the patient’s view should prevail.
Dorothy Timbs, J.D., Legislative Counsel for the Powell Center for Medical Ethics, said, “We believe most Americans will be deeply disturbed that four-fifths of the states do not clearly protect their right to choose food, fluids, or life-preserving medical treatment. It is important to fill out an advance directive like the Will to Live available on our website, here, to make your wish not to be denied food or treatment clear. However, it is equally important to work for legal reform so that your choice for life will be honored.”

STATEMENT OF BOB SCHINDLER, JR.
In light of my sister’s recent death by dehydration, experts have been urging people to sign advance directives. The implication is that this legal document will protect you from experiencing a horrific death such as Terri’s. However, I think that most Americans will be shocked to learn that this is not necessarily true.
Under the current law in most states, even if you clearly specify that you do not want to be starved to death, a doctor or a hospital doesn’t have to give you the food and fluids that you’ve asked for. Even if you have filled out a legal document choosing food and water, a hospital ethics committee can say that your “quality of life” doesn’t measure up to their standards, and you will slowly die against your will.
My family has personally experienced how biased the medical and legal systems can be toward people with disabilities, targeting people like Terri to hasten their deaths.
Although it is important to sign an advance directive to make clear that you want food and water, evidently, that is not enough. We must also work to change the laws so that those wishes will be respected.

The following is a letter to Terri Schiavo from a Marine who fought in Vietnam. Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler, read this letter during Terri's memorial Mass on April 5. Many people cried as Bobby read the letter.

Dear Terri,
You don’t know me and you never will. Unfortunately, I know a lot more about you than you could have ever imagined. I am not alone; there are millions of your fellow Americans who can say the same thing. The information I have been given about you is intimate, conflicting and disturbing. I try not to think about you, but the stories about you appear everywhere I look.
The more I learn, the more confused I become. The facts surrounding your situation are complex and hard to grasp. They have been reviewed, analyzed and parsed by every conceivable outlet, agency and personality.
I have strived to get to the heart of it. Look for the critical thought paths and logic. Seek the building blocks of reason from which I can take a strong, immutable position.
I have listened to Constitutional experts from Georgetown University Law School. These are not light weights and I always admire the intellectual horsepower they demonstrate by analyzing very complex legal issues and defining them in lucid, easy-to-understand terms.
Somehow, their explanations in your case leave me cold and unsatisfied. I am not at all certain we have done the right thing here. I accept that we are a nation of laws deeply embedded in and flowing from our Constitutional heritage. I understand the inherent tension between federal intervention and states rights. But something gnaws at my psyche like an ulcerous sore. It seems as though we may be technically and narrowly correct in the adjudication of your situation, but in doing so, have lost sight of a greater good and a time honored tradition of going to the assistance of those whose lives are in jeopardy.
Many years ago, I was sent to a place called Vietnam. Many others went there as well. It was difficult and filled with instances in which Americans were wounded and for brief periods of time were totally incapable of taking care of themselves. Without hesitation, their comrades sprang to their defense and rescue. Many of the rescuers lost their lives in the effort or were seriously wounded. There was a deep bond among all of us that said if you were hurt, I will be there to help you. Count on it. It was that trust that made going into harm’s way more comfortable and reassuring. It was trust, Terri, that absent my own ability to decide my fate, I could count on others to give me a second chance.
The men and women who participated in these efforts could have hidden behind the rules and the process that said they shouldn’t do it because it was too risky. No one would have blamed them. But, they didn’t. They stepped out bravely and put themselves on the line and saved lives that surely would have been lost. They showed leadership and courage and took great risks. Their efforts are what help define our American culture.
You see, Terri, this is my experience with protecting life. If there’s hope, if there’s a chance, if there’s a way then we should step into the fray and make it happen. The technocrats will always be there to criticize the efforts. They will sight laws and precedent and opinions. They always do. In Vietnam, they would have been the ones who said that the weather was too bad for the evacuation helicopter to fly into the landing zone where a young soldier or Marine was dying. Despite their pessimism, a brave air crew took off, rescued them and saved lives that were surely lost if they had listened to the pundits.
That’s what sticks in my craw, Terri. Globally, we seem willing to commit American lives to protect and save lives elsewhere, but right here under our noses, we lack the courage to step from behind the technical interpretation of law and personally ensure that everything has been done to protect yours. Just days ago, they ruled that your feeding tubes were to be removed.
Terri, I am a Dad and a grandfather. I try to imagine what it would be like for me if one of my three beautiful daughters were in your place. I try to imagine watching those tubes being removed and being powerless to stop it. I try to imagine what I would feel seeing you deteriorate each day as your body slowly shuts down because someone who probably never stood by your bedside, looking down into your eyes made a purely legal call.
I know that I would be incarcerated now, because I would force my way into your room, and hold you and hug you and cry the tears of utter despair as the flesh of my flesh slipped from my life; and it was all …so legal. I would be restrained firmly and gently by security guards, the ambivalence of their orders etched on their faces, as they dragged me from your room.
Soon, Terri, you will be delivered from all this. You will find peace in a place where the purpose of your life is not restricted by the laws of man nor debated by those who have chosen to ignore the primacy of life. You will be whole and beautiful again. When you reach that place, pray for us and forgive us.
Rest in peace, Child of God.

Schiavo Case: Living Wills, Autopsy Not the Answer
New York, NY: Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, who was with Terri Schiavo during the hours and moments before her death, issued the following statement today:
"In response to the Schiavo case, many think they should draw up a living will. This, however, is both unnecessary and dangerous. We cannot make treatment decisions today for circumstances of tomorrow that we cannot predict. Whether a medical treatment is morally required depends on those circumstances and therefore cannot be determined in advance. It is always morally required, moreover, to provide food and water to a patient, because food and water, even when provided artificially, do not constitute medical treatment but rather humane care. We are not morally permitted to request starvation and dehydration.
"In regard to the autopsy of Terri Schiavo, the results -- whatever they may show -- are irrelevant to the moral judgment that she was murdered. The level of brain damage that she had can never justify what was done to her. Life does not lose its value and dignity when it is damaged."
