Actress Glenn Close is retiring from Hollwood-because she says she doesn't like all the glitz and glamour. The 'Fatal Attraction' star says since 9/11 her priorities have changed and made her realize what is important in life.
'I prefer smaller films now and I want to spend time with people I love. Time is the most precious thing we have. I don't really like the diamonds and glitter of show business.'
Glenn, 58, says she felt uncomfortable attending star studded bashes like the Oscars because of the pressure to look good.
She told the UK Express newspaper, 'The times I was at the Oscars, I was wearing borrowed diamonds. I thought it was so gaudy. I don't think Hollywood knows what to do with me. Hollywood is all about image.

Too bad. She just appeared as the Queen of England on the show "The Shield". It was a great concept. The Queen of England sent over to Philly to clean up a corrupt detective department.
Isnt 'The Shield' a TV show based out of NY? I think they are referring to movie work only...
Yes, she is now on the FX series The Shield.
So what is she complaining about?
She is just another old bag Hollywierdo that will say or do anything to be loved by her fellow Hollywierdos.
I can see why her parents named her "Glenn".
Only 58? The years have not been kind to that face.
Her best role was in the amazing 'World According to Garp', in my opinion.
So maybe "The Shield" isn't filmed in Hollywood? I don't know. Anyway, she's the tough new Captain of the precinct.
She sucks and always has.Ugly as hell too. I could care less what she does on The Shield.
I just don't understand this borrowing diamonds business. These stars who make gazillions can to afford purchase their diamonds. It'll help grow our economy. Thank heavens my husband feels the need to help out. ;-)
From the sound of this, she's talking about getting out of "Hollywood" and focussing on smaller projects. The time demands of a supporting role for a TV series are much less than those of a major motion picture. Many times, she'll be home from the "Shield" set by dinner time, and some days, she's doesn't have to be there at all! On a Hollywood pic, the post-production publicity tours alone can require two to three months of one's life.
Glenn Close is one of the smartest, most versatile, and classiest actresses in the business. From "World According to Garp" to "The Big Chill" to "Fatal Attraction" to "101 Dalmations" (along with her work on Broadway), she's demonstrated range that most Hollyweird actors can only dream about. I think she just wants to get away from all the nonsense and glitz and spend her time on what matters most to her. Just my $.02.
Aw gee...My better half retired a few years ago too. I should have posted it for you all but I guess I just forgot. Anyway, he retired not becuase he didn't like the glamour and glitz of where he worked but because he worked hard all his life from the time he was about 10 years old. Served in the military, received his Masters over that time, taught at major university and then began another career and retired from that 10 years later all the while being a husband, father and friend. Let's see now....did I leave anything out of any importance? Oh yeah....he didn't make the kind of money that hollywierds do but...he retired on a happy note and not a bitter one or one full of lame excuses like Glenn Close.
That's it. I think his background well surpasses the credits Ms. Close has in her background. Oh Hollywood...what phonies. See ya Ms. close...don't let the door hit ya... (well, you get the drift)
She's doing a nice low-key job so far. Pretty gritty and in line with the show.
The season's starting off a little slow though. Mackey has to get back to being pissed off.
No. Her biggest scene was sitting in the shower crying in one movie, I forget the title, where the guy died and everyone came to their house after the funeral for the weekend. And the other was a sex scene with Michael Douglass in Fatal.
Thank goodness. That woman gave me the creeps on the silver screen.
The Big Chill -- Also describes Glenn Close's marketability now.
