I hope this shows that Jeb was serious. He only backed off to avert a state of FL civil war. Those who think Jeb was not going to act are wrong, he only backed off to avert a major firefight over Terri. I know some would still want that, but I think Jeb made the right call in the end.

Sorry, I don't think it was the right call for Jeb to make. A crime is being committed in that building under the color of law. If local law enforcement is really willing to confront other law enforcement with violence to uphold this judge, my only hope would be that the state guy's are better armed and DEADLY accurate. Jeb just succumbed to a threat that I doubt the locals would have backed up anyway.

Don't play poker, Jeb, because you can't figure a bluff.

Bull crap. There was not going to be a fire-fight. You've watched too many movies. This story is either complete BS or a bluff that caused Jeb to blink. Sad when a so-called leader is made to look so pathetic in public.

Maybe that's the whole problem here, the other side won't back down, but the conservative side will.

Don't take this too personally but: bullshit
Who do you reckon would have been the 'combatants'? State cops unloading on county cops?
Give me a friggin' break...

He let 'em back off thinking to save his political ass.

I'm not one of the religious wingnuts around here,
but this entire mess is a ghoulish, criminal, and shameful shameful abomination.

I agree, but let them stew in their impotence.

At this point I'm beginning to connect the hate shown to Jeb, Bush and the Reps to be equal to the hate shown against Terri. Both without merit, both fanned by the same malicious spirit that would love nothing better than an innocent woman dying and a party that has stood for Life and Liberty be brought down.

If they were interested in doing anything but spewing hate they would stop the blame game. Begin engaging the culture. Educating folks about the Judiciary and Constitution. Informing about sanctity of Life. And support the only politicians that had the courage to stand for that life.

Instead they advocate we abandon those politicians, allow the pro-Death politicians entrance, disengage as what was done after R.v.W. and maybe 40 years later return to bemoan the fact a redhead was sentenced to death by the Judiciary because her hair flamed too brightly, conveniently ignoring their own responsibility for the event.

Holding to chivalry would mean that one would not be deterred from saving a woman in distress. The timing was right for a confrontation. If the agents had told the locals that they were prepared to overcome them then the locals would probably have blinked.

To paraphrase YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN'S constable, "A gunfight is a terrible thing but it is about time we had one.".

If I could go there as anything other than a Jack Ruby I would do it. Even if I had enough time to get 100 rednecks together, I would go and face prison for it. It is a stain on me and on us that only children tried to get past the fat gut "lawmen" there.

I agree. As much as it pains me, how can the same conservatives who were mad in 1993 and 2000 (Waco and Elian) now want either Federal or State Troops to come in? Yes, it is tragic that a woman is getting railroaded by a runaway activist judge, but Jeb Bush is limited by the law. He has tried (as far as I know) every legal loophole available, and they have not worked. Sending in state/ Federal troopers in would have set the conservative movement back 40 years.

I think this entire story reeks of B.S.

C.Y.A., Bush-style.

Pure bull.

There is not one chance in a billion that the Pinellas Park Police, or the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department, will lift a single finger when the State Police roll up.

Just another lie created to fool the naive.

If he did, he created an even greater crisis. He allowed himself to be de facto ousted as the governor of Florida. Hamilton and other Founding Fathers said the judiciary would never be able to exert too much authority, because they couldn't enforce their decrees. Now we have established the judges have access to force, and their ability to control the police trumps the governor. (not to mention U.S. Congress. This is a disaster for our country.

You really think this is a good thing? I don't think you realize the revolutionary consequences of this.

Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

> I know some would still want that, but I think Jeb made the right call in the end.

At this 11th+ hour, you're probably right.
So it's reasonable to ask why didn't Jeb order this much earlier in the game when the risk of confronation would probably not have arisen?
The timing of so many federal and state (legal and this posse type) "rescue" attempts have left an impression of limp-wristed, impotent and too little too late efforts. Either that or it's a cynical, political grandstanding exercise and effort to (look brave and principled) for manipulation and containment of public opinion and criticism/condemnation.
It's kind of hard to believe that ol' JINO Greer is THAT astute and wily to outsmart, outgun and immasculate Governor Jeb. But, having succeeded, with the whole world watching, both Jeb and brother GW look powerless and must now, surely, be perceived quite differently by other (male) world leaders. Respect for both of them has to be greatly diminished because this pair comes off looking like they're missing their pairs !!
I'll bet tough cookie Condi Rice is probably now more respected worldwide than Jeb and GW.

> I hope this shows that Jeb was serious.

Doubtful. Certainly not in my book.

> He only backed off to avert a state of FL civil war.

Jeb's lack of foresight and decisiveness is appalling. Because of his handling of the situation, Florida's really in a state of anarchy. Everyone knows Greer is now calling the shots and telling Jeb what to do since he allowed himself to be cornered and rendered impotent. Jeb's doing, which has earned him a humiliating, self-inflicted political defeat.
I hope he figures out how to redeem himself -- which will require rescuing/saving Terri before she's too far gone to save.
