A federal court hearing has started in one of the last effort attempts by Terri Schiavo's parents to restore their daughter's feeding tube.
But the judge already has turned down the parents once. Bob and Mary Schindler are asking for an emergency order to reinsert the feeding tube in the brain-damaged woman.
The hearing in Tampa is before U.S. District Judge James Whittemore. He turned the Schindlers down once, as did a federal appeals court and the Supreme Court. A state judge, a state appeals court and the Florida Supreme Court also have all come down on the side of the husband, who wants to let his wife die after 15 years in what some doctors call a vegetative state.
The latest defeat for the Schindlers was today when a state judge said he won't go along with Governor Jeb Bush's request to order the feeding tube reinserted. The governor had said that new allegations of abuse of Terri Schiavo need to be investigated. The governor also tried to challenged the diagnosis that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state.
Funny, I thought about that "render unto Caesar" verse today. Some want Jeb and GWB to act like Caesar.
I had it all typed up then decided I wanted to keep posting -- despicable poster if you ask me.
If you haven't noticed a take over of the forum by the radical right and a shout down of dissent that is unprecedented on Free Republic you are either not bright or haven't been paying attention.
Hell, if Terri was a freakin' whale she'd be hand-fed kelp all day long.
No, what we're talking about is having a President decide the decisions of a long list of judges are inconvenient to him and discarding them via executive fiat. That would be a very bad thing. Frankly Presidents shouldn't even have the ability to pardon criminals, it's too much power, add what you're demanding and suddenly the President becomes the Ultra-Supreme Court capable of overturning any decision, civil or criminal, he doesn't like. Might as well change the job title to King at that point.

Very well said!
I don't know enough about Florida civil procedure to know what significance that has, but to an outsider, that seems curious unless probate means "probate and guardian".
There is no "guardian" division.

re: don't understand why so many people want to see Terri starved to death
I think it is based on their hatred for George W Bush. The minute he came out in favor of saving her all those who hate him were instantly in favor of killing her. It has nothing to do with Terri, she is just a pawn. It's a matter of their willingness to sacrifice Terri in order to win won from W.
The radical right is right and you are wrong.
Amen....
I fear for our nation Brother.
God has been forgotten.
This is a very, very sad day.
And more Terri's will be murdered.
If you are truly that stupid to actually believe that, go ahead and leave the GOP, go join a 3rd party like you guys are always threatening every other day, whenever you don't get 101% your way. I'm tired of idiot kooks constantly bitching and spitting on anyone who tries to work with ya'll, no matter what, you can always count on ya'll to end up angry, bitter, and backstabbing.
And the kooks ALWAYS end up being counterproductive and sabotaging whatever they were trying to accomplish. Like the fool who just planted a package that forced the evacuation of the courthouse, now delaying further the judge's decision, which is the last chance to save her life. After the fake Senate memo and all the other Dem tricks, my first instinct would be that the package was a Dem tactic to make the Teri supporters look like whacko nuts. However a weeks worth of postings have littered this site with plenty of proof that there are tons of kooks on Terri's side, completely tarnishing and undermining the honest hard work of her true supporters who actually have any chance of saving her.
Good riddance to you and your cynical, backstabbing, constantly blackmailing ilk.
I note what you refer to but I don't see me as radical right but I do think what is happening is so wrong. I don't see it as a duty for GWB or JEB to cause a constitutional crises over it and I don't see it as the end of the Republic or the rise of Satan or anything cataclysmic.
I do wish there would be a separate "support" thread for prayers and people who need to really talk about their feelings but I guess that won't happen.
Sounds like something the radical right would say.
But, the fact Terri's is such a big story in the USA is NOT due to the US media, which in the past would have tepidly covered and colored these events. The blogosphere, talk radio, grass roots communications are keeping this story front and center. We are witnessing yet another example of the collapse of influence of the majority Leftist "mainstream media" at least here in the USA.
My son is over here to watch the basketball games and he came running into the room to see what was wrong when I let out some words. My kids know I never do that but that was over the top.
I linked to the courts webpage. Didn't spend a lot of time digging through their orgchart. Greer's work history summary is out there too. He spent some time in the Family Court.
