The judicial system is completely gone already.
What is worse now is how such an issue like the Schiavo case is ripping the nation apart again.
We need to look no further that FReerepublic to see how bad this is. It is not just here but everywhere. Im not just sad but sickened by it because maybe Im coming to the realization that my generation and those before me are smaller in numbers. We have people now who don't remember the past. God forbid you even dare mention it - discussing anything related to Nazism is taboo.
There is a new younger generation of people including many FReepers who have never seen the horrible things man can do. They don't realize where all this is headed. The don't seem to notice the dehumanization in progress, the sanctity of human life that no longer exists in the mainstream.
I feel like checking out of this. It is so horrible where we are headed and like a runaway train it cannot be stopped.
The salivating bloodlust by some and the indifference of others as a woman, a human life lays there starving to death.
A dog at the SPCA has more gets more sympathy that Terri does.
Her parents want her, they want to take her home to love her and care for her and they are denied by a court and an exhusband who want her dead.
Why not let the parents have her?
This entire thing is just evil and insane.

Show me the legal document, signed by Terri Schiavo, notarized and witnessed.Pfft. We have better...we have her making a quick comment during a movie. So be careful what you say while watching a movie...it is now leaglly binding according to the state of Florida. I'm not sure about comments made while watching reruns of Seinfeld.

Hearsay....what a wonderful term. Do you have any clue what you are talking about?
To: MizSterious
Well, most of the FL Supreme Court that got spanked by the USSC in 2000 were appointed by the old Democrat governor, Lawton Chiles. Jeb has a few appointees on that Court now. I worked hard to defeat Greer, but judges try to stay under the radar as much as possible. I'm amazed that you must declare your political affilliation to run as an Election Supervisor but not as a Judge. BTW, I don't think the FL Judiciary is any worse than any other state. And I STILL think the rest of the country needs to know we put W over the top!

It's not about Terri anymore, it's a power struggle between the Judges and the Hill. I for one can't NOT understand how this could backlash against the Republicans as mention a few minutes by a stooge on FOX! I didn't catch his name, but he said there's a possibility this could hurt the republicans running for reelection. Also he said the majority of the people,(that's all I needed to hear to reinforce my believe that judge Whittersomething(sp?) was going to make his ruling according to what the poll numbers were)were against Congress interfering with the courts and the right of the living spouse or something like that! SO SAD, pray for Terri and her family!

Well you had the courage to elaborate on what I have long privately thought. As another poster just noted, John Adams had it right when he said the U.S. Constitution was suited only for a public of believers.

Why? Once this case got to fed court and the judge didn't move quickly to have the feeding tube reinserted (in the wee hours on 21st)... it was obvious he never had any intention of reinserting the feeding tube. It was obvious he was dragging his feet hoping she'd die before the 11th circuit could get the case. He already had his mind made up that's the reason for the 3PM hearing late afternoon....the hearing was ONLY FOR SHOW...nothing else....Thank you. That's become increasingly apparent. It needed to be stated.

One judge making a bad decision is one thing...but when you have five separate courts reach the same conclusion, then the conspiracies need to be laid to rest. I don't understand your reasoning. Alot of judges looked at the Dred Scott case and Plessy v. Ferguson and the Koramatsu v. U.S., but that didn't make the decisions in those cases less abmominable than they were. More recently, multiple courts looked at the case of Gerald Amirault and repeatedly abrogated their duty to due justice in that case. So don't tell me that just because you get a bunch of lawyers in black robes looking at something, that they can't end up making a horrible mistake. Being a lawyer, you more than anyone else would should understand that and, as a result, you should have more of an open mind about the facts in this case.

Excellent post, chimera. Thank you for stating so well what has been in my heart. I hope many people read it, and take it to heart.

NO. This FReeper will never ever "come to grips" with the forced starvation of a brain-damaged woman whose wishes are not known, yet alleged by her slime ball husband to be that she wanted to be starved and dehydrated to death rather than take advantage of 21st century therapy and rehabilitation. When our country allows an estranged husband to have the courts order to starve a wife, something is very very wrong and no, I personally will never accept this. Judges are not supreme beings. They are lawyers who wanted more power. The judiciary does not make the laws, the legislature does. The federal judge did not do his job. He was supposed to conduct a de novo (NEW) hearing, not affirm Greer's incompetence and malfeasance in the matter of this helpless woman who has been deprived of her life and liberty with the blessings of the court. The judicial branch needs to have the smack down on them.

This has only been to court twenty-one times with sixteen different judges. Can't one of them get it right?
In case it's not crystal clear, we have a corrupt judiciary. Until these people are reined in, things are going to get very ugly in this country.

He can't do that. And the judiciary can't do half the things it does these days...but here we are.

It almost seems like that was written specifically for Terri Schiavo.

"My boyfriend is a liberal and thinks the same way but when I hit him with "You would starve and dehydrate a person to death" he hit me with "it will be painless". I said "how do you know it will be painless?" of course he said "the doctors said it will be". I asked "which doctor sat there, starved and dehydrated himself to see it it was painless?" He shut up right away and could not answer me."
Tell your boyfriend that it is NOT painless to dehydrate to death. My mom did not want to be kept alive by ANY artificial means at all. She made that very clear many times, and she executed all the paperwork and filed it with the nursing home when she moved in. When she had her last stroke that left her comatose, we honored her wishes. My sisters and I sat with her until she died which took seven days. On the sixth day, she started to moan with every exhallation. A nurse came in and put a pain patch on her, and she ceased moaning after about an hour. She died the next day. It's not painless. I was there, and I know.

"I just finished reading Judge Whittmore's decision. This decision is very well-researched and writtenall 13 pages of it."
In the 13 pages did the judge speak to the affidavit of the nurse who was fired by the hospice for going to the police after finding Terri's husband attempting to murder her with overdosing her with insulin? Did he discuss nurses would sneak food to Terri; ice chips, jello and strained food and she loved eating! Did he discuss the affidavit that had the nurse reported that Terri spoke many words, such as 'Pain'. If he did not discuss this in his decision then he was biased.

Being a lawyer, you more than anyone else would should understand that and, as a result, you should have more of an open mind about the facts in this And I have read each published opinion in this case and reached my own conclusions regarding how it has been handled. Sorry, but I don't see the conspiracy that many on this thread see.
