US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)

Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro

This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).

The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they don’t want to be known as the party that killed Terri.

This is American history happening before your eyes.

The Supreme Court's jurisdiction regarding this case is discretionary, and it's unlikely it will take up the case, especailly inasmuch as it already turned the case down.

It turned the case down when it was requested to overturn the Florida State Court.

This law about to be voted on will likely be found unconstitutional by a federal court, and the USSC will not hear an appeal on that ruling.

When a judge makes a ruling that you don't like the judge will say "write to your legislator to change the law". Well that is EXACTLY what is happening.

The judge says he followed the law and if you don't like that contact your legislature. What democrats don't like is that the conservatives are acting FAST.

(sort of the MSM screaming like a stuck pig.)

A possible conversation between Congresswoman Carson and her husband (courtesy "South Park"):

Thomas: And that was the third time we saw the Loch Ness monster. Then one time, I believe it was July-

Nellie: August.

Thomas: -August. There's a knock on the door. I open it, and there's this cute little girl scout-

Nellie: And she was so adorable, with the little pig tails and all.

Thomas: -And she says to me, "How would you like to buy some cookies?" And I said "Well, what kind do you have?" She had thin mints, graham crunchy things-

Nellie: Raisin oatmeal.

Thomas: -Raisin oatmeal, and I said "We'll take a graham crunch. How much will that be?" And she looks at me and she says, "…Uh I need about tree-fitty."

Nellie: …Tree-fitty.

Thomas: Well, it was about that time that I notice that girl scout was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the protozoic era.

Nellie: The Loch Ness monster.

Thomas: I said, "Dammit monster! Get off my lawn! I ain't giving you no tree-fitty!" It said, "how about just two-fitty?" I said, "Oh, now it's only two-fitty!! What?! Is there a sale on Loch Ness munchies or something?!"

Nellie: Lord, he was angry.

Thomas: Damn right, I was angry!

Nellie: Not you, the monster. He was about to kick your ***.

Thank you! That's so kind. I expected to be zotted for that comment!

I believe that many Democrats are fleeing the Republican party and that many more will flee after Howard Dean begins to get comfortable in his role as DNC Chairman. Hillary will, of course, continue to move to the center. Like George w. Bush, after she gets comfortable in the role of President (G-d forbid) she will truly pursue her socialist objectives.

Sorry, got side tracked! I've been posting on my blog about Terri so much it's a thrill to discuss pure politics . . . back to business!

Oh puhleeeaze! The Democrats have been aborting their voters since 1973. This is just the icing on the cake.

It's already illegal to do to an animal what Greer has ordered for Terri.

You really might want to be more careful with slinging about the Nazi references. She's Jewish.

Congress is indeed acting under Constitutional authority to determine jurisdiction of federal courts.
Congress will not have the final say. It is likely that the USSC, which has already ruled on this matter once, will determine that Congress does not have the authority to overrule Florida courts.

Umm NO that is exactly wrong again. The Congress is exercising one of it's little used powers to over see the Judiciary. This is EXACTLY the check our founders intended. Our system was never meant to be an aristocracy of Judges. There are limits to the Judges powers. What you are seeing is a wholly legitimate exercise of Legislative oversite.

What is far more likely is that the SC will simple refuse, as they did earlier, to assume oversite on the issue.

You are darn right!

No one would choose to live like that. She probably isn't aware of it anyway. But her life is precious and she shouldn't be treated worse than it is legal to treat an animal.

We have a sort of similar situation in my extended family... heart attack, no oxygen for 3 to 5 minutes. Lots of suffering for everyone concerned. But I realized a while ago that this situation has the capacity to make saints out of people... it brings out unselfishness and love and a whole lot of wonderful things in people - due to the suffering of the one who had the heart attack. He is the vehicle for a lot of graces.
