Mother pleads for Terri Schiavo's life

MITCH STACY

Associated Press

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Hanging their hopes on a last-minute compromise in Congress, Terri Schiavo's parents notified her hospice to prepare to have her feeding tube reinserted on Sunday, her third day without food or water.

Congressional leaders from both parties hoped an agreement reached on a bill would allow the tube to be restored while federal courts review her case. The House and Senate were expected to take up the legislation by Sunday or early Monday. If passed, President Bush planned to sign it.

But Mary Schindler pleaded for parents nationwide to call their congressional representatives and pressure them to vote for a bill to prolong her daughter's life.

"There are some congressmen that are trying to stop this bill," she said outside her daughter's hospice. "Please don't use my daughter's suffering for your own personal agenda."

SNIP

Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., issued a statement late Saturday saying he will make an objection that would stop the vote Sunday. Any member can demand that a majority of members be present to do business. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., said he was trying to gather enough votes to defeat the bill Monday

LET'S go down that road! The MSM is NOT reporting all the facts.

Their reporting on the Schiavo case is similar to their reporting about Iraq.

If you didn't realize it already, let me be the first to inform you that they have a liberal agenda.

Very good points, as always Joanie.

Is there anyone out there with half a brain who doesn’t know where the truth lies, and what justice would entail in this case? So what is standing in the way of justice being done here? When did common sense cease to play a role in our legal/judicial system? And when did unaccountable judges, unscrupulous lawyers, and jurors who are incapable of rational analysis of facts, obtain the upper hand over our lives and liberties?

I think what you're describing started with Eisenhower's appointment of Earl Warren as chief justice. He was governor of California before that, and he was really the first who took to "legislating from the bench." But, whenever it started, it is now out of control and the average American doesn't even realize how much so.

Indeed, to refer to Rep. Wexler as a snake is a harsh rebuke to all snakes and to the Arizona Diamonbacks baseball team. A snake only kills for food and to sustain its own life. Rep. Wexler wants to kill Terri to satisfy this perverse ideological blood-thirst that resides within the far-left wing of the DIMocrat party. Therefore the rattlesnake reptile is clearly a higher form of life than Rep. Wexler.

Her husband won't allow an MRI or a PET scan.

Another lie believed. Sigh...

I don't understand your comment. Are you saying I believe a lie? That was posted several days ago on one of Teri's threads. The husband has not appeared to be all that concerned about his wife's life; according to transcripts and legal documents also posted on sites dedicated to Teri.

I was commenting on a question another poster asked.

I think you are not representing the situation fairly. Sure, there is ambiguity--but I do not believe it was a "consistent determination" in various media that Ms. Schiavo's cerebral cortex is "basically liquid", as you contend. Here is a more down to earth, but comprehensive discussion of the reality behind the terms that are being bandied about in this argument. It should give you pause.

And the actions of congress, if passed, will give her the same habeas rights as a death row inmate: a review by a federal court. Because there is no mistake: the judge in Florida has signed Terri's death warrant.

So what did the MRI and PET scan show? I hadn't heard that her concerned husband had ordered these tests, on the advice of all the objective physicians attending Terri. Mea culpa from all of us who believed that she has not received these important diagnostic tests.

And BTW--unless you are a board certified neurologist, cite one if you make the expected reply that these tests are not relevant. There are too many people practicing diagnostic medicine without licenses all over the place.

And, in that twilight of uncertainty, the Congress is contemplating removal of the most basic right of an individual, to determine ones fate or provide for a person who you wish to determine for you.

Quite the contrary, there is no clear understanding of her wishes. There is no arguement regarding her right to determine her fate, the question is discovering her wishes.

I called Fox to correct Eleanor Clift's "she's on a breathing tube, she can't breathe on her own".

The Fox host let it go, right over his [air]head.

Eleanor Clift can't think on her own, and I think we need to disconnect her media tube.

A plus to Bill Kristol today: he knows the score.

You have stated the primary point of the case: there must be clear and compelling evidence, not mere tardy, self-serving hearsay.

Michael received payments in 1992 of $250K, $1.4 mill, and $600K for a total of two and a quarter million dollars.

To get it, he blubbered he'd care for her for the rest of his life.

Having got it, he forbade any therapy for her, bought a house, two Mercedes and greased the palms of a series of weaselly shysters in his mad drive to murder her.

Not a right-to-die case, not by worlds.

I don’ t know what you do for a living but I certainly hope it is not law.

Your statement shows the depth reached by the culture of death.

We have been brainwashed to the point to where if anyone stands in the way of the established order of government and have become an inconvenience or expense, a liability instead of an asset then they need to devalued so they can be removed.

More and more each day our country is being run not as a Republic government but as a business entity.

The Constitution was written to protect the rights of the individual not the right of the State , whether it be in the form of the state or federal government.

The first and foremost of these rights is and has to be the right to life. Without the right to life all the other rights are useless.

A corpse has no rights. Ask any of the hundreds of innocent babies we kill every day how many and which rights they have exercised or enjoyed lately.

Michael and judge Greer have determined for Terry that her life is no longer of any value to them or society .

Therefore they have decided for her that the best thing is to end her life by starvation.

They have no tangible proof other than hearsay from those that might stand to benefit from and wish see her dead that this is Terry’s wish.

If Terry did not wish to be kept alive then she should have [as we all should] indicated so in writing .

We have already given the right to kill innocent babies by simple request to those who are supposed to love them the most, their mothers.

The altars on which we perform these human sacrifices are the altars of convenience and financial gain.

We have turned our courts and judges in this country into our gods.

They say or let others say who can be born, what we can do and even think while we are here.

Now we want to give them and others the power to determine who is of enough value to receive the care and continue to live and who are not.

Those that are not will, face the prospect of removal without any input or viable proof of consent of consent from them.

That’s the real, really, really, really bad precedent that’s being set here.

This is nothing new. This is the way it started in 1930’s Germany.

We have seen where Roe vs. wade has done to the value of life.

Now we want to open another door to death and shove those innocents through it that have become a burden and expense.

After all they will never come for us . Everybody knows we’re special.

I'm appalled that you would stoop to a disgraceful comment like that. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I repeat: no one person's life is worth the precedent of allowing federal intervention in state and family matters. Think it through. Think about what this precedent will mean when when the Democrats are back in power. Forced abortion? Euthanasia? You name it, they could do it. And you will be the ones who, through your cries, handed the Democrats the weapon they will one day use on you.

As conservatives we should be doing everything in our power to STOP the federal government from gaining this much power over state and family issues. Not only is no one person worth the damage this precedent can and will do to this country, thousands of people aren't worth it.

Think past the emotions, people. There are much bigger issues here.
