President's Statement on Terri Schiavo
The White House ^
| 3-17-2005

The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

I will say that it IS the same committee that is acting in this.

Seems like the witness gambit might be a good alternative--it writes no new law, but buys Terri a little time.
Why can't the law save Terri?

so I pointed out your inconsistency.Let me see if I have this straight:
I make a statement, reported on the news today, that is a FACT.
Somebody else CALLS for jackboots and I point out FR was against that when Reno did it
And I'm inconsistent?
Keep up the good work.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the POTUS is authorized to call out the National Guard in this situation. I'd like for him to stay within his powers. Am I wrong? I don't think the State of Florida is authorized to starve and dehydrate an innocent person to death. Am I wrong?

Or at least order that they work with her to see if she can swallow?

The Elian / Terri anologies are non starters. Jackboots is the common denominator there; and I full well remember the night this forum nearly blew apart when Reno sent those guys in to get Elian; people actually posted their NAMES and ADDRESSES because they were so upset.
And yet now apparently we're in favor of them?
Well, not me.

We have the parents who may not be rational is their hopes of prospects for Terri--but in balance, they seem the better of a bad lot. If they have hope--hope is better than death. If Terri is indeed nothing but a piece of property, let that property go to the Schindlers. You're absolutely right! In any other situation, just as xsmommy has pointed out, anyone with such an apparent conflict of interest -and overwhelming at that-, would have very little, if any, say so in the matter.
The Feds have to step in here, IMO, this is not a matter of States Rights, it's a matter of Terri's right not to be offed by that ghoul of a husband of hers.
I'm really hoping the Republicans can pull an Eisenhower's 'you will integrate these schools' by sending in force to block this. I don't have any idea how the judge would be treated here, but as I said before, any people truly jealous of their liberty would begin the process of stripping this man of his robe and his pension.

"Don't forget the two bastard children. Bastards, bastards, bastards. Michael has two bastards."
Those two children have nothing in this fight, they are the innocent one. You might make a real study in what the meaning of this word is you use.
Now I am against what is being done to Terri, but I reject totally trashing two children that have nothing to do with this.
To: Howlin
I heard this just today on MSNBC). Uh, I thought you were a smart person. pmsnbc all of a sudden has THREE witnesses to what for years has been in Mike's head only.
And you run with it? Why?

I asked you first-- and it was a serious question. Does the POTUS have authority to call out the National Guard in a case like this?

Run with it?
You mean like "running with" saying she spoke today?
But I get the message; nobody need disagree here.
Everybody's lying except Terri's family.

As if the unalienable right to life is just a states rights issue.
---
Thats not whats at stake here. Well, perhaps it is but in the opposite way. The issue is the intention of Terri Schiavo. IF it was her intention that die if she was ever in a state like she is in then her right to (her) life is being violated if she is not allowed to do so.

I found that subpoena gimmick to be inventive. It writes no new law--and this situation is fraught with the peril of ending up with some bad laws.
However, that can be dealt with after Terri is safe.

"
Can't Bush issue an executive order to at least delay Terri's execution?"
It may get there. His powers are to commute and/or pardon sentences by judges. Gears are still turning in FL. He must get permission from the majority and minority members of the Senate and House unanimously to take this step. This must be granted and clear to everyone. It will also be publicly clear who objects.

"Mr. President, how 'bout you work on ridding our nation of socialism and defending our nation from terrorists instead of taking time to meddle in the business of Floridians."Aren't you the same traviskicks that hangs out on the Confederate threads bashing Southerners who argue "State's Rights"? What a HYPOCRITE.
It's no coincidence that the same folks cheering the MURDER of Terri Schiavo are the same ones who root for Abortion "rights", and in your case Howlin, the confiscation of privately owned firearms.

And that juvenile outburst helps Terri's cause in what way?
