The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

Now THIS arouses me into a pissed-off state. What are they doing passing gas at a bunch of baseball players when somebody's innocent life is on the line because of a judge who wouldn't think twice about giving due process to some scumbag?
It IS none of Schiavo's business because this woman is HEALTHY other than being disabled, they are HIDING her true condition and that is CRIMINAL. This is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue that affects all of us because no one should be allowed to KILL the, excuse my expression, retarded because they can have a nice quality of life even if it isn't what you might ideally wish for them.

That's exactly the point. It started with inconvenient babies and can end with inconvenient adults.
Can't Bush issue an executive order to at least delay Terri's execution?
Leave personalities out of it and try to discuss the issue.
This is a case in probate court--not criminal or civil or even divorce. Greer is a probate judge--having to do, most familiarly, with the dispensing of wills and inheritance. Also--custody and guardianship of minors and the incapacitated.
One of the most ghastly things about all this is that Terri is chattle, here. A piece of property. That's why the "habeas corpus" was attempted--to try to elevate Terri to at least the status of a vicious convicted murderer, to try to establish some rights for her.
Then we've got a judge beyond all mercy or appeal. A regular Shylock--I will have my bond!. His vanity has been pricked and he's bent on preserving his sense of status. That's why he has not wisely gotten off the hook when he had the chance.
The whole case falls apart when Schiavo claims--"She wouldn't want to live like this." There is no credibility there. He doesn't love her--and has every reason to want her dead, now that he's spent his settlement money. She's just an inconvenience he finds ugly. I do not believe he is acting in any interest but his own.
We have the parents who may not be rational is their hopes of prospects for Terri--but in balance, they seem the better of a bad lot. If they have hope--hope is better than death. If Terri is indeed nothing but a piece of property, let that property go to the Schindlers.

Elian was not a citizen of the USA. He was a citizen of Cuba. Aliens are not under state law. They are under Federal law.
If the executive branch could pick up a citizen with out a court order, then a President Hillary could pick you up with out court order and give you a cell shared with a 300 lb serial killer named bubba who is looking for a new b*tch. All they need is for a Bush to set the president.

I'm not butting in. I told you have I have absolutely no opinion on this matter. I merely recognize that this case belongs in the Florida courts, not in Washington D.C.
I know ... and just for the record, of course, I think Congress should act for a whole bunch of moral and ethical reasons but that doesn't seem to be moving them so I thought they needed to be reminded that allowing their subpoenas to be used as tp might not be in their best interests.
It may well be time to send in the "jackboots."
