Mr. President, please find those jack-booted thugs that found Elian Gonzales. They have another mission.

But I thought we were against that, right?

Have our values changed now?

Well, true enough those guys have yet to redeem themselves, but for this they'd all go on sick-leave.

"Have our values changed now?"

No. This is to prevent the government from executing innocent people.

Mr. President, how 'bout you work on ridding our nation of socialism and defending our nation from terrorists instead of taking time to meddle in the business of Floridians.

our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life
Exactly.

If the LAW is on the side of killing innocent, non-terminal, non-vegetative people, something is seriously awry. Storm clouds gather on the horizon as the longstanding insult to the innate human sense of justice reaches an apex.

Read in the last chapters of Esther - the LAW demanded the extermination of the Jews. At the very end, it was turned on its head as Esther bravely approached the king, and the murderes had visited upon them the very thing they sought for the hapless Jews.

FWIW, I don't think the written LAW as codified in the FLA Constitution or the US Constitution is to be blamed in this case. It's the (mis)application thereof.

I can't see that making a pro-life statement is meddling "in the business of Florida."

Exactly! When the phone-person at my congressman's office started babbling about how concerned the congressman was about the situation, and how much he cared, and so forth, I said I had heard more than enough rhetoric. What matters is results, and the Republicans are coming up way short on those.

Preserving innocent life is one of the natural roles of government, be it federal or state.

It's the (mis)application thereof.

Nine members of the United States Supreme Court disagree with you.

It's not his statement; it's those calling for him to mount up and ride to the rescue.

An incredibly unpopular opinion here, no doubt, but absolutely on the money so far as I'm concerned. The sovereignty of states is more important than the life of any individual, and is designed to protect the lives of hundreds of millions of individuals. That may seem cold, but sometimes it's necessary to take the emotion out of something to see it clearly for what it is. This is a case that the people of Florida need to deal with - not the folks in DC. The people of the sovereign state of Florida have the authority to handle their government, but if they choose to let things proceed this way, then there's nothing the rest of us ought be able to do about it.

This is a state issue, not a Federal one. Terri's husband should be the final person to decide her fate.

Congress has no business being involved with this. Just like they have no business being involved with steroids in Baseball.

Folks, we have thousands of terrorists all over the world that want to KILL every one of us. And Congress get's wrapped up on personal and sports issues??!!
