**Exclusive Fri Mar 18 2005 00:50:07 ET** The Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee, Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) has requested Terri Schiavo to testify before his congressional committee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. In so doing it triggers legal or statutory protections for the witness, among those protections is that nothing can be done to cause harm or death to this individual.
I'm so sick of those on this thread who are holier than thou, smarter than everyone else because they have "facts". Even facts are in dispute right now. There is nothing wrong with Congress getting involved and having this case reviewed by someone OTHER than Greer.
The egos around here sicken me.
Terri left no living will. No evidence exists that she would have wanted to be starved and dehydrated to death - something we aren't allowed to do even to such subhumans as the Carr brothers. Instead, the contrary does have support.
A sadistic, estranged husband with vested interests and a live-in mistress who has been caught in numerous lies has been given the power of life and death regarding Terri.
There was no investigation as to what caused her initial condition. And why refuse to investigate if she was abused and have further tests done to check if she could be rehabilitated?
Terri was denied her religious rights.
The abuse of judicial power and of misuse of funds awarded for Terri's rehabilitation.
There are too many other areas of concern here to list them all.
Sarah Scantlin, the Wichita woman who spoke after 20 years in a coma...
Once he got that settlement, did he follow through with his stated plan of rehabilitation? Or, did he SUDDENLY remember that his wife, who would be sucking up that settlement, didn't want to be kept alive by artificial means?
Hildy, I know we disagree on many aspects of this case. But the biggest divergence is in the realm of malicious intent. He has acted out of malice. He has withheld antibiotics for painful and serious infections. I would not want anyone to suffer through what she has at the hands of this man. I agree, he should have transferred guardianship to her parents the INSTANT he took up with another woman. He was in a conflict of interest. He has done what he can to make her passing as painful as he can, and yet she lives on.
There is absolutely no reason to hope that your husband will do as MS is doing. Get it down on paper; talk with your Dr. so that you can word your instructions to include as many scenarios as possible, and if a decision has to be made to take you off of whatever life-giving sustenance you are on at least include a provision so that tests can be made to calm and reassure your family that there is no hope. MS is not even willing to do that for the Schindlers and this is there Daughter. He now has children; he should understand their fear. And we should understand why they are fighting so very hard.
He has not been transparent nor has he been merciful.
There are certain threads I avoid here because I know they'll cause my blood pressure to rise. That's the intelligent way to do it.
This is not a factual statement.
My step-father had a living will and yet when he was suffering terrible neck pain and went to the hospital, when they asked him if he had one he told them No!
To me that goes to show when faced with the possibility of death a person still wants to live.
He had given me his living will so I took it to the hospital even though he said he didn't have one. He then suffered a massive heart attack and died. If they hadn't of had the living will on file they would have had to preform life saving messures such as CPR.
I at times feel bad that I took the living will to them when he said "No" he didn't have one. They may have brought him around for a short time, but he had an artificial pig valve over 13 yrs old and also had, had 2 open heart surgery's. Also he was 83 yrs old.
On the program I saw on tv with the entire background on her case.
So says her husband. Some attending nurses and her parents say she can swallow her own saliva--with therapy, she could learn to swallow the pudding. In any event, my uncle lived for quite awhile with a feeding tube because he could not swallow. He gardened, puttered around his wood shop, and went to church regularly. Would you have wanted him dead too? Not being able to swallow, even if it were true, does not make someone worthy of death--except perhaps in Florida.
Amazing hearing these lib's now argueing for a state only issue and the federal government has no standing in the issue. How can that jive when they think the federal court should overrule a state's law on the death sentences of minors? That's a federal issue, but this isn't? Nonsense.
Well done. You are right. I have been watching this stuff since last night on this thread and others.
Like I said before, rather large egos.
Government should not be involved at all.
Call the Senators (Repubs, anyway) on the Health etc. Committee. They have worked long and hard to get these 5 subpoenas written and delivered. And I am thinking once Terri is out of Florida, she could go to the Mayo Clinic instead of back to Florida. Why would you EVER go back to Florida? In fact, why do any old or disabled people live there? What a horrendous EVIL place.
So wonderful of Rush to weigh in on this...the KING of RADIO has spoken, Boortz!
Michael Schiavo tried to Kill Terri fifteen years ago and he won't stop trying to Kill Terri until we all stop HINO through demanding a full Criminal Investigation of this Case and other potentially similar Cases.
Isn't there a Mayo clinic in Florida?
The best neurological experts in the world have found Terri in vegetative state. Even the controversial doctor retained by the Schindlers thinks that most of Terri's brain cortex is gone.
Although the physicians are not in complete agreement concerning the extent of Mrs. Schiavo's brain damage, they all agree that the brain scans show extensive permanent damage to her brain. The only debate between the doctors is whether she has a small amount of isolated living tissue in her cerebral cortex or whether she has no living tissue in her cerebral cortex.
A T.V. program? They couldn't possibly be wrong could they? I mean CNN is ALWAYS right in their reporting.
Whatever, lame.
Did you see Sen. Frist on the Senate floor really late last night talking about Terri's case?
He was talking about the records he had studied, tapes of Terri he had studied, and that he had discussed this case with some neurologists he knows---
He seemed to indicate that he thinks Terri is in an even higher state of consciousness than a Persistent vegetative state, which would mean that she may be MORE aware, than believed, and also, more able to be rehabilitated to do more things---
If you saw that, I can't believe anyone would consider erring on the side of death---
