The Threat Matrix
The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.
"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."
We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research. |

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida Full Story
|
WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil." "Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice." DES MOINES, Iowa -- The U.S. Attorney's Office said an illegal immigrant with false documents was hired to work at Iowa's only nuclear power plant.
Gerardo Estrada-Gallegos was indicted on possession of false documents and making false documents to a federal agency.

It could be that we need to build new refineries and update the existing ones....but there have been more than a few unexplained incidents of this type since '01.I don't think we have built a new refinery in 25 years (in the US). Even if more oil could be pumped, we are using all the gasoline that current refineries can produce. We certainly need to build more refineries. Any disruption of a refinery anywhere in the world sends financial ripples through the gasoline marketplace.

Thanks, Cal.
I've been doing some googling on flag.blackened.net.
So many links, so little time!

Re 2670
I missed the post...sorry JP
I just find it strange that one person logs out before the explosion and now cannot be found.
Anything further on this A41? Have you been able to find out the person's name?
I've heard nothing.....

The only worker still missing after the explosion of BP's Texas City refinery was found dead in the plant's rubble today, bringing the death toll to 15. At least seven other blast victims, meanwhile, are fighting for their lives in hospitals.
snip
.
Until the 15th body turned up this morning, BP officials thought the missing worker had simply left the plant Wednesday and neglected to check in.

Thanks for the info Godzilla. Much appreciated. You are a true asset to TM!
The one missing employee was my basis for suspecting sabotage. Seeing as how this unfortunate person turned out to be one of the casualties, maybe this was just another horrible accident.

You know, we should stop thinking of these accidents as accidents. Every time one of these plants goes boom it is due to the environmentalists stopping new refineries from being built. These old plants are running at 100% capacity 24/7 to try to meed current demand. This the perfect setting for these accidents.
These environmentalists SAY they are all about caring. I think not. If they are all about caring they would want more plants to ensure the safety of the workers. I keep forgetting these folks can't think straight. Too much college indoctrination...er...education.
We should start building more refineries, many more. Enough to EXCEED future demand so if a few plants are taken out we can still meet our needs.

My thoughts too. However, with all the attention focused on Texas City by UI individuals we are not out of the woods yet.

Here in CA, if a plant goes down for unscheduled maintenance, gas shoots up 10 cents. Now there is a considerable amount of gasoline being IMPORTED because we do not have the refining capacity anymore.

Mama, you are so right! In the not too far future, we are going to not only have so many individuals out of work that the country goes bankrupt, but the companies that are left here and have outsourced will also go bankrupt when war breaks out and their workforce abandons their jobs, sells secrets or sabotage US war efforts. But somehow, the US GOvt doesnt see it, or doesnt want to see their mistake in passing trade agreements that make outsourcing so lucrative for US businesses. They will learn soon enough.
Homeland Security Department approved 10,000 more applications for visas for high-tech and specialty workers than Congress permitted for this fiscal year.
It's actually okay JP. These are jobs undoubedly that no qualified American would want. Those potential high-tech and "specialty workers." losing their homes and cars because they can't find a job Americans!
Better to let those jobs go to foreigners who may take those trade secrets and technological data back to from whence they came so they can use it against us later! Homeland Security in this instance is an oxymoron.

Ack! Didn't mean to cause you to worry. We took a impromptu sailing trip in Puget Sound. Sailing is one of my most favorite things. Very relaxing, but, no computers allowed.

Intelligent managers never run resources at 100% capacity. You always need enough reserve to take some of the resources down for maintenance while providing a satisfactory level of service. That true for people and equipment.
We are running refineries at 100% to provide a satisfactory level of service. As you pointed out, there is no time for maintenance of very old plants. It is a safety hazard. It is also an easy target to do economic damage. There is no margin for loss of production.

DM Mofaz to Washington
21:13 Mar 29, '05 / 18 Adar 5765
Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz is scheduled to arrive this evening in Washington D.C. for high level talks with U.S. administration officia.
Mofaz likely to discuss what he has called, to a New York Times interviewer, **"A red line,"** the Terrorists have crossed.
The Defense Minister has claimed that PLO Arabs, working with members of the PA military intelligence agency have smuggled Strela shoulder-fired anti aircraft missiles into Gaz
Mofaz demanding the PA track down and confiscate those anti-aircraft missiles, and give them to Israel.
Arab terrorists, as well as a number of Arab businessmen, regularly smuggle many types of weapons in from Egypt, often through deep tunnels dug especially for the purpose. As part of PM Sharon's Gaza Disengagement plan, Egyptian troops would be trusted to stop much of that smuggling.
