Virginia man charged in alleged plot to assassinate Bush By MATTHEW BARAKAT
Associated Press Writer
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A former high school valedictorian in Virginia was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and conspiracy to support the al-Qaida terrorist network.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court. He claimed that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.
The indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified coconspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb."
I believe the proximity to D.C. and the Pentagon is pretty much the entire reason why so many of them gather around here. And they understand that there's a lot less general policing and surveillance in the suburbs than within the District itself.

Either that or we should let him go, assassination plot and all, just because he got caned at some point in Saudi
Abu Ali's Daddy works for the Saudi Arabian embassy.
So....why didn't conspire to murder a Saudi leader, then?
Of all the articles, not one mentions 'Muslim'-American.

Right out of the al-Qaida training manual.
I relate and sympathize. I still get homesick for VA. The mass media would MUCH rather besmirch that great Commonwealth than call a terrorist a terrorist.
They must have gotten the CAIR memo demanding they drop the "Arab American" from terrorist descriptions too.
Black blazer, red shirt, gaudy medal at his throat, and a black arm band on his right arm...
"I'm the proud parent of a potential presidential assassin?"
I'm on DU watch, looks like they just found out about it (they are so slow over there).. So far they haven't devolved into the sort of arranged lunacy we have become accustom to, but there have only been like 4 replys because it was just put up. I suspect in about an hour the majority of posts will be "Set him free!". Maybe the secret service can watch the posts, then track down those who are about to threaten the life of president Bush, and send them to jail for the rest of their lives, God bless him, Bush is a good man.. as the 'tapes' have proven.

The strongest clue about the reasons for his imprisonment came in July, from an FBI agent testifying in federal court in Alexandria in the case of a group of Northern Virginia men alleged to be part of a "jihad network." According to the agent's testimony, Abu Ali told his Saudi interrogators that he had joined an al Qaeda cell in Saudi Arabia and that he aspired to be a planner like Mohamed Atta, the ringleader of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers.
Did the "tolerance" and diversity" indoctrination at his high school contribute to the feelings of self-esteem he got out of planning an assassination?
"Abu Ali was born in Houston and moved to Falls Church, Va., where he was valedictorian of his high school class. Federal prosecutors say Abu Ali joined an al-Qaida cell in Saudi Arabia in 2001. The alleged Bush plot occurred while he was studying in that country."

"According to the indictment, Abu Ali obtained a religious blessing from another unidentified co-conspirator to assassinate the president. One of the unidentified co-conspirators in the plot is among 19 people the Saudi government said in 2003 was seeking to launch terror attacks in that country, according to the indictment."

"Abu Ali is charged with six counts and would face a maximum of 80 years in prison if convicted. The charges include conspiracy to provide material support to al-Qaida, providing material support to al-Qaida, conspiracy to provide support to terrorists, providing material support to terrorists and contributing service to al-Qaida."
And Sean Penn has already been accepted an offer to play the role of the potential assassin.
Oh : they're laughing with derision because they're so superior to the rest of us and hope to win, one way or another.
