The UN finally got what it wanted. The Kyoto Climate Change treaty becomes international law this month on Wednesday. The treaty went into full effect with the approval by the Russian Federation, even without the support of the United States. Time will tell if and when the treaty will begin to affect the U.S. economy. What is certain is that truth and reason had no part in the process.
Global warming has become a new religion. No one is supposed to question whether it is a fact. I did in the December 2004 issue of The DeWeese Report ("There is no man-made global warming," Volume 10, Issue 12). For my trouble I was labeled a "moron," a "liar;" one who wants to "blow up the world," and just plain "evil" to name a few from a mass of mail I received.
In particular, my article stated that there is no scientific evidence to support claims of man-made global warming. I pointed out that there is division among scientists and that there is no "consensus" among them.
I also reported that there are scientists who promote political agendas over truth to keep the grants coming in. And I said that the UNs 1996 report issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was edited at the last minute to remove two very important paragraphs that specifically said science showed no clear evidence of man-made climate change. Those were all facts.
Apparently Im a moron for reporting them because as one letter said, "Everyone knows global warming is real."
In response to these Luddites, I simply present this: A federal hurricane research scientist named Chris Landsea has resigned from the UN-sponsored climate assessment team because his groups leader had politicized the process. . . . .

I believe it was President Gorbie of the old USSR that said "environmentism is the last, final bastion of communism because it is the only approach left where the government can regulate and take private land from people."
In the 6,000 yeas of recorded human history, no government has ever led its people into anything except the history books with a simple lesson.
Don't let this happen to you.
Too bad we never seem to learn.
The Kyoto craze won't last long once countries begin to feel the effects of it on their economies. Do you think France is going to cough up the cash it's going to owe Russia? I highly doubt it. Then russia is going to turn around after they get this cash and bow out of the treaty. It has no choice if it's going to expand it's oil and gas industries. Unless it slaughters half it's population, which isn't all that unrealistic. it's happened before.
read Michael Chrichton's book "State of Fear". A good read and deals with this very aspect - "we all know it's true, so it's true - isn't it" ????
He even provides some good references to dissenting scientists/research right in the middle of the book.
If Global Warming is observed, it's hard to prove that it is man-made. It's just as hard to prove that it is not man-made.
Is there Global Warming?
Is it our fault?
If it is our fault, can we do anything about it?
If it's not our fault, should we do anything about it?
For the Left, answering "yes" to any of these 4 questions fully justifies ending the Industrial Revolution and reverting to living in caves.
I take the opposite approach -- Global Warming has been observed on Mars. Therefore it is caused by solar activity, therefore there's nothing for us to do about it aside from adapting (using more air conditioning, moving beach-front homes) as circumstances indicate.
This article debunks Global Warming written in 1997.

Enter global warming. This allows people to demand energy efficiency and non-fossil fuel polluting energy sources without causing undue panic. What's more it lets the world put pressure on the U.S to consume less energy so that the oil will last longer, or at least they'll benefit from the remaining stocks.
Since I am in the oil business, I say your "peak Oil" is a joke.
Known reserves in the USA alone can provide fuel for over 100 years without going to any extensive lifting approaches.
I read a study once that noted 52% of people had no idea where their gas comes from and 92% have no idea where the plastic that wraps their loaf of bread comes from. The source is the same oil well.
Oil is used in everything we make from paint to computers not just gasoline. People really need to get a like. Peak Oil BTW noted in 1970 that all the oil would be gone by now as well.
You're right about Michael Crichton's book. I'm half way through and have found that this book is in line with this article. Global warming leaders/followers are treating this as a religion, not based on real and documented facts. The book is interesting and filled with footnotes that point to documented facts that dispute Global warming.
Na, I don't buy into that peak oil scare either. Russia and Canada alone are sitting on top of huge reserves that have yet to be tapped. Plus there are many other lush reserves yet to be explored.
plus, as the world turns, we become more energy efficient, and discover better, or more efficient energy sources, or possibilities which, as technology advances, will become available, all of these reducing demand on oil reserves.
Maybe we should be buiding the big hydro electric dams while the sea level is low, so when this big wall of water comes from melting arctic ice, we can generate electricity with it.
If Science is wrong (which it is) we will have a very pretty sea wall which cost way too much money to build. maybe they could still be used as a tourist site, a glowing example of man's stupidity.
Science kept out by the greens' dogma (like creationists, urban greenies cling to fundamentalism)
They don't want truth or science, they want faith - faith in the undeniable vileness of man in Gaia's grand scheme.
It's not that we're going to run out it's that the pressure from underground wells will fall so the rate at which the oil can be extracted will decline. Sure you can pump sea water into the wells but this takes quite a bit of energy. The drop in well pressure will cause production shortfalls that will slowly raise prices and cause big problems. It won't be a sudden disaster, it will gradually show up and start causing bigger and bigger problems.
We didn't sign it. What can they do to us? NOTHING!!!!!
Simple sucker rod requires no additional energy.
I am also working with a company in texas that has enhanced oil and gas recovery but all this assumes oil and gas does not recharge or renew themselves like all renewable resources.
Natural gas is made by mother nature hence natural gas, it makes itself. We simply cannot use it up.
Oil recharges its own fields. We have over 50 years of data showing oil as its own renewable resource wtih fields recharging.
Man, you sure have a simplistic view of oil production, don't you?
I also happen to know a bit about the oil business.
here is something to think about. What happens if you release a air bubble way down in an oil shaft?
To think that all these oil wells are pumping away creating a vaccum is kinda funny though. Stick with that.
There are still all the untapped resources in Alaska and the Beaufort Sea plus the huge oil-sands deposits in Canada and off the both east and west costs.
There are even sweet gas reserves sitting untapped under Lake Erie.
I know where my natural gas comes from and speaking of that it is time to go out and have some beer, cheese and navy bean soup for lunch!
Lol, I distinctly remember that, as I was 16yo and getting ready to drive myself everywhere. How bummed out I was when I heard that there was no gas left and "the days of leisure driving are over". Lol.

Increasingly, your natual gas comes from Canada-
Have a good lunch. If only man could harvest the gas that type of lunch produces....
