STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

" Are the Dems booing?
Really? Incredible. Isn't that a first?

It would not surprise me to see some of the Democrat boors and booers walk out tonight.
No behavior is too low or disrespectful for them.

I like the way that he's leaving his options open. Now he's playing to his base voters.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

"he brought up THEIR thrift savings plan"

Yeah, but they pay social security too, it's a separate benefit, too generous no argument there.

Let 'em boo. Until they're mired neck deep in quag. America needs to see the disrespect.

I will amend my observation from 'I believe we will be in a shooting civil war in my lifetime' to 'I believe we will be in a shooting civil war in THIS TERM'.

I bet Lieberman switches parties after this.

He is exposing the dems desire for more and larger government and their desire for control of our money (social security). They are opposed to smaller govt. and "BY the people".

Dubya has crushed them. Zogbys polling shows that the core constitutency of the young dems is with Bush on SS reform. Even given Zogby's penchant for error that puts the dems between a rock and Kennedys head.

I hear in the DEM rebuttal they will say that Bush's SS plan will cut benefits by 40% and increase the deficit by 2 trillion over time-- how the hell does this make sense-- I despise these people-- Savage read it on his program

I am in American Samoa right now.

The time difference to the east coast is 6 hours, last time I checked. The White House web site said it would begin the web cast at 8PM.

At 2PM I logged in and started a stream of what I thought was the live web cast. Because I'm at the office I can only half-listen to the stream.

It turns out the stream I was listening to earlier was the 2004 archive.

So, I didn't lie. I was mistaken because I was operating on the fact that the White House said 8PM, I calculated that as 2PM my time, and when I logged on to watch - I got what appears to have been the 2004 SOTU. Since the President's agenda hasn't changed in a year, and I was only half-paying attention I didn't catch any discrepancies.

Do you normally accuse people of lying when they might just have been mistaken?
