breaking on msnbc
I am only reporting. I have no idea if this is correct or not.
If it was on take off..it would have a full fuel load...from the lack of a major fire..seems like the tanks held...pretty remarkable..
We have enough pilots on FR to be able to say whether or not that is correct.
(I'm not a pilot, so I'll defer to them.)
Taped news feed from WABC says that according to tower conversation it was on take-off roll.
Icing.
Maybe it was those Lasers again, we've had 3 or 4 in the Newark area.
I was just gonna say that.
This is spooky.
Miles O'Brien on CNN has been talking in-depth about icing.
Is there a way to verify icing if the ice melts in the fire?
The flaps probably got iced up and locked, preventing proper roll.
Remember the crash a few months ago in Colorado..killed the family of the NBC guy?..speculation also was that the plane wasn't de-iced..there were several articles that said that for these pirvate small jets..sometimes the cost of de-icing the plane..$$$$.can be the difference between the flight being profitable, or money losing..it's entirely up to the captain, at his discretion..no requirement for someone on the ground to make the call..

Saw them just now as well.
Didn't see it in the initial video I saw.
It hasnt snowed here in about two weeks, I would figure the runways would be CLEARED?
sw
Ice on the wings can deprive them of lift, however.
There was fire earlier they said.
Plane also appears to be the standard short version.
Looking at the direction of the runway and the direction of the skid, he tried to steer left somewhat.
Once he hit the grass, it was a straight beeline across the grass road and into the building.
