The Free Republic W2 Inaugural Ball was a wonderful, but exhausting time. I'm still wiped out. But, I know folks are waiting for pics and stories. I'll add my observations later, but I wanted to share one thing before I head back to the hotel to see 'Governor' Robinson and his family off.
We received a phone call from the White House yesterday. The Office of Presidential Scheduling called to pass along President Bush's regrets for not being able to attend our ball (we had mailed a formal invitation to him and his family.) We were told, "He hopes it went well."
As it turns out, the ball went really well after a late start.
Governor Huckabee and Capitol Offense rocked the house well past midnight. Impressionist Billy Finch did a wonderful job as Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. Sauropod's video presentaion was stunning. The speeches by the Iraqis were very moving. WMAL's Michael Graham did a great job opening the show. Nick Danger was excellent emceeing the Eagle Awards. The St. John's College High School JROTC were magnificent presenting the colors. Richard Poe was busy all night signing copies of Hillary's Secret War. Seeking the Truth and his wife, Darlie, couldn't take a break--their 0Cents.com merchandise was very popular.
Thanks to all for their hard work making sure the ball went so well. And a special thanks to the active duty service members from Walter Reed and the Pentagon, as well as the veterans, who accepted our invitations as honored guests to the ball.
Please post your reports and photos or links here. I know alot of folks are traveling home, so check back over the next few day as folks check back in on FR.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.
LOL. Yours is one of the most "colorful" reports I've seen. Thanks for sharing and give the Irish redhead a big hug for me.......Future children...Hahaha.
ROTFLOL...Friend for life.
Jim, I'm so sad that I didn't get to see you again. Seems it gets harder and harder for me to get away. Sure wish we could have some sort of bash in Ohio....the "Heartland". It's not easy for us in mid-country to get to either coast. I'm glad the ball went well and I've enjoyed the pictures and reports. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it a success. Eagles Up! Nan
Thank you again, kristinn, for all the hard work I know you did to make the ball a resounding success.
Bump to that!
Bump to that too!
There were 4 homeless people, men, in Metro sitting. One man looked right into my eyes and I smiled. His little eyes brightened and I merely said "hi" with a compassionate twang. He jumped up and followed me yelling "hi there ma'm, I said hi there Miss." My husband grabbed me and practically dragged me down the escalator with now 4 homeless men following. Thankfully, I my husband drags quickly!
LOL. That is too funny. We outlanders do have our problems with the big city don't we? BTW, you live in Mich. so you are not that far from our Ohio gatherings. We are trying to plan one for the spring. It's just a "girl's luncheon", usually on a week-day. We just take a day off and meet for lunch. I have a 2 1/2 to 3 hr. drive usually. It's nice to get together with Freeper women. The converation is sooooo much more stimulating than the usual woman talk. ohioWfan, dutchess, Molly Pitcher, mountaineer and Dollycalli are some of those who attend.
That does sound right up my aisle. I'm looking for something like that. We live in lower Michigan just north of Toledo so depending on where you meet, that's certainly do-able. Thanks for including me and just let me know when you decide details.
My stepdaughter lived in Toledo for years. They just moved to Houston. Step grandaughter still lives in Toledo. We usually meet somewhere on the east side of Columbus. Most of us live on the east side. Some further north. Toledo is what....about 3 hours from Columbus?
Yes 3 hrs gets you to Toledo. My husband grew up there. Brother in law lives in Columbus.
So, you're not much further than I am. I'm just across the state line from Gallipolis, Oh.
Very nice sonic quality!
It was pretty cool!

Does ANYONE KNOW who the gorgeous woman in the gold dress is? Also the red dress?
(Freeper gals are the best)
I've never seen that much snow before - had to stay hydrated trudging through all of it - same as walking in a desert!
