January 9, 2005 -- Two teen sons of an Upper East Side heiress say they are so desperate to get away from their abusive mom, they've asked the state attorney general to bust her for welfare fraud. Jason Jacobs, 17, and his brother Jeffrey, 16, say their mom, Linda, pockets benefits while refusing to buy them food or pay the electric bill at their $4,000-a-month apartment. The prep-school kids — accustomed to a privileged life of Hawaiian vacations and East Hampton summers — claim they're abused, neglected and were recently offered a dinner of half an apple. So they've become amateur sleuths — collecting bank statements and benefits records and delivering the documents to their father, Gary Jacobs, who passed them to welfare-fraud investigators last week. Going on welfare, they say, is a despicable ploy to convince a judge to slap new child-support payments on their financially beleaguered father.

From experience I'd say more than you think view them as the latter........
And this might give her the necessary scenario to have her exclude them fron her Will. They're not that stupid - greed works both ways.
The entire article sounds like creative writing.....Actually, Kerry & Tereeeeza come to mind.
Weigh them both, give them a pre-induction physical exam; if they are malnourished, hang her butt - if they are fat little pigs, hang her butt.
The mom may not put food in the house for the kids to "walk to the fridge and get some". Also, If you is abusive, the kids may be scared to do so.
A child, under 18 should not have to work for their own food. That is the job of the parent to provide food and housing until the child is 18.
Nothing prevents him from giving the boys money personally to buy stuff.
Where did you see that the dad was doing anything wrong?

Both the Mom and the Dad are obviously using the situation for revenge and money not for the welfare of the kids.
I'm inclined to think this is a book review??????
That the boys are relying on aid from the school and part time jobs does not say much for the father. There are plenty of work arounds but he appears not to care.
Again...please show me the information in the article which leads you to believe the father is using the kids for revenge and/or money.
Not necessarily. They should abide by court orders. And Dad would still be under an order to pay.
I'm not one for having children make a public stink about their parents, but this may be a case where the kids have more class than Mom.
It looks like Daddy is very, very rich, too. I still the the entire story is phoney.
Daddy says he still doesn't know how much money is ex has due to her inheritance. Guess what...it's none of his business....it's totally hers.
He does not have to pay child support legally, but morally he should be providing for his family. This does not mean he has to give her the money. He could easily set up an account for the boys so they could get what they need or even,(gasp!) drive over every week to see them and actually buy stuff that they need for them.
What Father would use Children who claim to be abused and neglected to collect bank statements etc and deliver it to HIM?
Why didn't he take those kids and feed them instead of using them?

It does not say that the father "used" the kids to gather the information. The boys gathered the information and gave it to the one person they thought could help. Of course, it doesn't say it happened the way I put it either...but hey...were just assuming facts anyway!
