The Terri Schindler Schiavo Daily Threads are created month to month as we watch local and national news regarding Terri and her family.

Since Terri's supporters are in every time zone, you may see something FIRST. Please share news with us that you don't see here already. Now, why would you want to do that? Terri's Daily Thread for September/October of 2004 was viewed over 15,000 times. Terri's November Daily Thread was viewed over 6,000 times. December's thread is over 3,000 views.

More and more good folks are finding out about Terri and that judicial tyranny would take her life, but for lots and lots of prayer and non-stop lobbying of relatives, friends, clergy, our leaders, the media, a passerby, a cashier - ANYONE who you feel comfortable chatting with.

Folks always want to know how can this be in America or on earth for that matter? Unfortunately, this is really happening to an innocent woman who just celebrated her 41st birthday. She's not the only one but she's the one with devoted parents and siblings who knows what's in Terri's heart. Terri has a strong will to live. That's apparent. It's been 14 years.

Besides, feeding tubes have been around practically since the Civil War. They are not high tech devices. Terri is "not hooked up to machines". Her feeding tube is the diameter of a piece of spaghetti.

Talkin' about Terri is the best way to lobby for her. It is a salespitch to save her life and subsequently, many lives. If you've never sold anything in your life, START NOW. START WITH TERRI.

See Terri's flash movies if you need more information. You can see for yourself that's she's interactive and follows the doctor's instructions.

NOTE: Terri's December Dailies are noted as a source above. There are lots of important links at the very top of that thread. If you missed Terri's Celebration of Life, you can click on it from there.

Newt Gingrich drafts a new contract for America
By Associated Press
Published January 9, 2005

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court returns Monday with an ailing leader, pressure to rule quickly on the constitutionality of federal prison sentences and a slew of contentious issues to decide, from medical marijuana to Ten Commandment displays.

The former House speaker who led Republicans to power a decade ago said he soon will visit Iowa and New Hampshire to promote his book, try to influence public policy and keep his political options alive.

"Anything seems possible," including a White House race, Gingrich told the Associated Press.

The quotable and controversial former Georgia congressman, who now runs a consulting firm in Washington, is promoting Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America. He seemed to welcome the thought that a book tour will increase speculation about his political aspirations.

"It never hurts to maximize opportunities. That's the American tradition," Gingrich said. "If I can influence the reporters and political activists in Iowa and New Hampshire, they will influence the candidates."

Asked if he might be a candidate himself, Gingrich said, "For an Army brat from Pennsylvania who became the only Georgia Republican in the House and the first Republican speaker of the House in 40 years, anything seems possible. I don't think it's very likely. On the other hand, if I have an impact on public policy and do it in a way that is exciting and positive, why wouldn't I want to do that?"

Gingrich said he hopes newspapers in Iowa and New Hampshire seize on issues raised in his book. "If that means that every candidate will be hit by those questions, at a minimum I have helped shape policy," he said.

"And, at a maximum, other things might happen," he said.

Republicans close to Gingrich said he privately has mused about running for president in 2008 or beyond. If nothing else, they said, Gingrich understands that talk could help sell his book, which goes on sale Monday.

Gingrich, who helped develop the "Contract with America" and end four decades of Democratic power in the House, built the book around a post-Sept. 11 update to the 1994 political manifesto.

He says America's early-century goals should be to defeat terrorism, stop driving God from public life, develop "patriotic" immigration and education policies, harness modern science and technology, and establish personal Social Security accounts.

While giving Bush credit for recognizing the threats posed by terror, Gingrich said U.S. intelligence capabilities are one-third of the size needed. On Iraq, he writes that the Bush administration erred by creating a U.S.-led provisional authority instead of quickly creating an interim government as it did in Afghanistan.

He also accused the administration of underestimating the effect of anti-U.S. propaganda and lacking a strategy to deal with insurgents. "This lack of strategic planning led to the tragedy of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal," Gingrich wrote.

@987$temp$ $STPT$ Paper:+ Date: 1/09/05+ Page: 5A+ Section: WORLD+ Byline: Associated Press+ Headline: Supreme Court returns to slate of volatile cases+
The most immediate concern is the health of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October. He has been working part-time at the court for more than two weeks but still is too ill to return to the bench.

At 80, Rehnquist already was considered a top retirement prospect on a court that has had no turnover in a decade, a record. But justices try to time their departure's for the court's summer recess, to avoid 4-4 ties in cases.

Rehnquist's absence has yet to produce any tie votes. Even though he missed all the arguments in November and December, he has reviewed the cases and could vote if needed.

Besides Rehnquist, Justices John Paul Stevens, 84, and Sandra Day O'Connor, 74, are considered possibilities to leave this year.

Justices could rule as early as this week on whether the longtime system for sentencing federal defendants should be thrown out because it lets judges, rather than juries, decide factors that add years to prison time. Many judges have delayed sentencings while awaiting the high court's decision.

Other major cases involve whether states can execute juvenile killers, whether the federal government can prosecute people who use marijuana medicinally, and whether states can bar interstate wine sales over the Internet.

Some other big issues are still to be argued - or are awaiting an announcement on whether the justices will hear them.

Two February cases will be closely watched by local governments and land rights groups. They involve the government's power to take people's land or put limits on its use.

In early March, large crowds are expected when justices take up two cases that question the constitutionality of government displays of the Ten Commandments. The last major religion case was last year's challenge to the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Justices settled the case without ruling on the merits.

March also brings a case that asks how U.S. authorities should deal with foreign nationals facing charges that could result in execution. In addition, there is an Internet dispute that questions whether file-sharing services may be held responsible when customers illegally swap songs and movies online.

Justices have a chance to add some controversial issues to their April calendar: Oregon's assisted suicide law; a Florida law that kept a severely brain-damaged woman, Terri Schiavo, alive over her husband's objections; a Florida law that bars gays from adopting; and an appeal questioning the Bush administration's strategy to hold military trials for terror suspects in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"I don't think there's going to be any shortage of headlines," said Erwin Chemerinsky, a Duke University law professor.

Wrote an email to Great at Fox News with the link to the article by Bass regarding Terri's visit by the attorneys this past Christmas eve....I certainly hope she has a few people on her staff who understand the impact Great could have in informing her audience across America about both sides of this horrific saga.

My latest Terri sign says "BIG BAD WOLVES PLAY GOD". In the middle I placed a giant photo of a white wolf on the prowl and in the background, a black-gray wolf looking the other way. THE ACLU and hemlockers represent the white wolf on the prowl and the smaller wolf looking away in the background represents the judicial system.

Hold on to your hat. A POWERFUL LAW FIRM, THE FLORIDA BAR and Judge Farnell are trying to ruin Attorney Mark Adams' career and his life. Judge Farnell violated a bunch of judicial canons in this morning's St. Pete Times. I couldn't believe it. IT IS ABHORRENT that yet another Pinellas County Judge seeing that rules are never followed, oaths are never followed, decides to join the bad judge buddy list in Pinellas for Battaglia Law Firm. Battaglia is a major republican of national stature and his firm is putting Mark Adams through hell according to the paper.

The Sunday Money edition of www.sptimes.com is not up to date. So, here's the bottom line. Mel Sembler was Greer's county commission seat campaign manager before he became a Judge. MEL SEMBLER WAS AMBASSADOR TO ITALY UNDER BUSH 41.

Sembler is mentioned below re: sanctions against Attorney Mark Adams (they threw the book at him, the Fla Bar, etc.).

The St. Pete Times quoted Judge Farnell liberally. Judge Farnell implied that Mark Adams should be in "the hospital" or, Judge Farnell said he "suffered through this case with Mark Adams long enough and that he felt sorry for whoever ends up with the Mark Adams' case which is about the slander of Mark Adams and his client Mr. Smith. At a Miami golf course, a person with tie to Battaglia law firm approached Mr. Smith and said that they were going to bury MARK ADAMS. Adams filed a slander lawsuit because the tie to Battaglia at the golf course also said that Mark Adams was "an idiot". not on line yet

FROM MY GOOGLE SEARCH. These boys OWN PINELLAS COUNTY. I don't think anyone can get a fair trial in Pinellas or Pasco County.

Big day today before Sixth Circuit for Mark Adams and Ray Bradbury

Dateline St. Petersburg, Florida, Nov 5, 2004.

A lot is happening today in the Sixth Circuit. Ray Bradbury and his attorney Tom McGowen will finally have their meeting before Judge Anthony Rondolino to try to persuade him compel the Semblers to bring their suit to trial.

But there is also another happening. Attorney Mark A. Adams is also having a hearing. Mr. Adams is an attorney who, along with his client Jeff Smith, was unfairly sanctioned by the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court before Judge Crockett Farnell. Judge Farnell is the judge who presided over a sloppy attempt by the state to unfairly imprison Ray Bradbury in 1989. [Coincidentally, the law firm who had opposed Mr. Adams was Battaglia. Straight's attorney Anthony Battaglia was a business partner of Straight co-founder Joe Zappala.] Mr. Adam's story is here and here.

FV SAYS: Straight is defunct. They used starvation as a technique to cure drug addiction and also sleep deprivation. That was SEMBLER, friend of Greer. Battaglia is a friend of Greer. Judge Farnell is going to help SMEAR MARK ADAMS in the press. He did that today in the St. Pete Times.

BACK TO GOOGLE TEXT:

After the Clary Report and Judge Irene Sullivan Last year The Readers Digest, with a readership of 10 million, conferred upon Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Charles W. Cope one of its annual Broken Gavel awards for the worst judges in America. "Sleazy, corrupt or abusive," reads the headline.

Judge Cope was named the worst of the three judges granted the award after a Judicial Qualifications Commission panel found him guilty of public intoxication and improper intimate contact with a woman in California in 2001.

Judge Cope had been arrested on a DUI in Naples Florida in 1996 but those charges had been dismissed. Judge Cope resigned before lawmakers could impeach him for the California charges. On November 24, 2004 former Judge Cope was arrested again. This time in Pinellas County Florida on another DUI.

In 2000 Hernando County Judge Peyton Hyslo made the magazine's list for letting repeat offenders back on the street. Two years ago Ambassador Sembler's Treasure Island neighbor and former chief judge for the Sixth Circuit David Patterson committed suicide after being cited for threatening his wife and after getting a DUI.

The Readers Digest's 2004 list should add Judge Logan's gag orders of Ray Bradbury for speaking out against Mel Sembler and Manny Gonzales for speaking out against Kanes Furniture™ at the request of the same attorney Lenny Englander; Judge Logan's participation on a dinner committee with Lenny Englander, Irwin Novack of Kanes Furniture™ and Ambassador Sembler's son; Ambassador and Mrs. Sembler's possible misrepresentation to the court. And now Mr. Adams' story. Last year the widely-read magazine awarded only three Broken Gavels. Will Florida's royal court sweep the slate in 2004?

SEMBLERS: FRIENDS OF GREER. Why don't we nominate Greer for Reader's Digest Broken Gavel Award? Where do I sign up? SO, THE PROBLEM IS ALL THE REPUBLICAN FAT CATS HAVE TIES TO WASHINGTON, i.e. Battaglia who is at the top of the GOP hierachy. (I can see why the Pinellas GOP endorsed Greer now. Following Battaglia's orders).

William Levesque's article really shows that Judge Farnell is ONE OF THEM. They're going to destroy Mark Adams. Sound familiar?

SMALL TOWN STUFF: I interviewed with Battaglia in 1994 wherein he bragged about his key role for the Republican Party in D.C.I didn't get the job but I'm kinda glad now.

I used to work for Attorney Ed Turville in 1996 and his client and best friend was the elder Kane of Kane's Furniture. The elder Kane died and then Turville died last year. LET ME OUTTA HERE!

At least now I know why the Pinellas GOP endorsed Greer. Battaglia more than likely ordered them to.

END OF KANES STUFF. My neighbor and handyman used to work for Kanes. When old man Kanes died, the son took over and had a personality conflict with my neighbor so he was fired. Old Man Kane was okay.

Here is another article about the visit with Terri with some of the same info and a great deal more detail...we are all hungry for news of how Terri is doing..and this article by the Schindler's attorney (one of the two) just satisfys that hunger so well. And it breaks your heart, too.

Have I told everyone lately how MUCH I DISPISE Michael Shiavo for his unending abuse, and how much I suspect the Florida Hospice, especially Woodside, for ALLOWING this animal to lay such pain and lack of joy upon Terri?

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE!

A Visit With Terri Schiavo
Attorney Barbara Weller

This past Christmas Eve day, 2004, I went to visit Terri Schiavo with her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, her sister, her niece, and Attorney David Gibbs III. The visit took place at the Woodside Hospice for about 45 minutes just before noon.

When I knew I was going to visit Terri with her parents, I had no idea what to expect. I was prepared for the possibility that the Schindlers love their daughter and sister so much that they might imagine behaviors by Terri that aren't actually evident to others. The media and Mr. Schiavo clearly give the impression that Terri is in a coma or comatose state and engages only in non-purposeful and reflexive movements and responses. I am a mother and a grandmother, as well as one of the Schindlers’ attorneys, and I could understand how parents might imagine behavior and purposeful activity that is not really there. I was prepared to be as objective as I could be during this visit and not to be disappointed at anything I saw or experienced.

I was truly surprised at what I saw from the moment we entered the little room where Terri is confined. The room is a little wider than the width of two single beds and about as long as the average bedroom, with plenty of room for us to stand at the foot of her bed. Terri is on the first floor and there is a lovely view to the outside grounds of the facility. The room is entered by a short hallway, however, and there is no way for Terri to see out into the hallway or for anyone in the hallway to observe Terri.

From the moment we entered the room, my impression was that Terri was very purposeful and interactive and she seemed very curious about the presence of obvious strangers in her room. Terri was not in bed, but was in her chair, which has a lounge chair appearance and elevates her head at about a 30-degree angle. She was dressed and washed, her hair combed, and she was covered with a holiday blanket.

There were no tubes of any kind attached to her body. She was completely free of any restraints that would have indicated any type of artificial life support. Not even her feeding tube was attached and functioning when we entered, as she is not fed 24 hours a day.

The thing that surprised me the most about Terri as I took my turn to greet her by the side of her chair was how beautiful she is. I would have expected to see someone with a sallow and gray complexion and a sick looking countenance. Instead, I saw a very pretty woman with a peaches and cream complexion and a lovely smile, which she even politely extended to me as I introduced myself to her. I was amazed that someone who had not been outside for so many years and who received such minimal health care could look so beautiful. She appeared to have an inner light radiating from her face. I was truly taken aback by her beauty, particularly under the adverse circumstances in which she has found herself for so many years.

Terri’s parents, sister, and niece went immediately to greet Terri when we entered the room and stood in turn directly beside her head, stroking her face, kissing her and talking quietly with her. When she heard their voices, and particularly her mother's voice, Terri instantly turned her head towards them and smiled. Terri established eye contact with her family, particularly with her mother, who spent the most time with her during our visit. It was obvious that she recognized the voices in the room with the exception of one.

Although her mother was talking to her at the time, she obviously had heard a new voice and exhibited a curious demeanor. Attorney Gibbs was having a conversation near the door with Terri’s sister. His voice is very deep and resonant and Terri obviously picked it up. Her eyes widened as if to say, “What’s that new sound I hear?” She scanned the room with her eyes, even turning her head in his direction, until she found Attorney Gibbs and the location of the new voice and her eyes rested momentarily in his direction. She then returned to interacting with her mother.

When her mother was close to her, Terri’s whole face lit up. She smiled. She looked directly at her mother and she made all sorts of happy sounds. When her mother talked to her, Terri was quiet and obviously listening. When she stopped, Terri started vocalizing. The vocalizations seemed to be a pattern, not merely random or reflexive at all. There is definitely a pattern of Terri having a conversation with her mother as best she can manage. Initially, she used the vocalization of “uh’uh” but without seeming to mean it as a way of saying “no”, just as a repeated speech pattern. She then began to make purposeful grunts in response to her mother’s conversation. She made the same sorts of sound with her father and sister, but not to the same extent or as delightedly as with her mother. She made no verbal response to her niece or to Attorney Gibbs and myself, but she did appear to pay attention to our words to her.

The whole experience was rather moving. Terri definitely has a personality. Her whole demeanor definitely changes when her mother speaks with her. She lights up and appears to be delighted at the interaction. She has an entirely different reaction to her father who jokes with her and has several standing jokes that he uses when he enters and exits her presence. She appears to merely “tolerate” her father, as a child does when she says “stop” but really means, “this is fun.” When her father greets her, he always does the same thing. He says, “here comes the hug” and hugs her. He then says, “you know what’s coming next---the kiss.” Her father has a scratchy mustache and both times when he went through this little joke routine with her, she laughed in a way she did not do with anyone else. When her father is ready to plant the kiss on her cheek, she immediately makes a face her family calls the “lemon face.” She puckers her lips, screws up her whole face, and turns away from him, as if making ready for the scratchy assault on her cheek that she knows is coming. She did the exact same thing both times that her father initiated this little routine joke between the two of them.

The interactions with her family and our appearance in her room appeared to require some effort and exertion from Terri. From time to time, she would close her eyes as if to rest. This happened primarily when no one was paying particular attention to her, but we were talking among ourselves. After a few minutes or when one of the visitors approached her and started to talk directly to her again, Terri would open her eyes and begin her grunting sounds again in response to their conversations. Although I approached her, leaned close and stroked her arms and spoke to her, she did not verbally respond to me.

Terri’s hands are curled up around little soft cylinders that help her not to injure herself. I understand that these contractures are likely very painful, although there was a time when Terri was receiving simple motion therapy when her hands and arms relaxed and were no longer as constricted. When the therapy was discontinued by order of her guardian and the court, the contractures returned. These contractures would apparently be avoidable if Terri were given the simple range of motion therapy she previously received. It is very sad to observe firsthand these conditions that make her life more difficult, but that would be correctable with little effort. [Republic notes: I DISPISE THAT MONSTER BEYOND MEASURE!!!!!!]

When we were preparing to leave, the interactions with Terri changed. First, she went through the joke routine with her father and the “lemon face.” When her niece said goodbye to her, Terri did not react. Nor did she react to me or to Attorney Gibbs when we said our goodbyes to her. When her sister went to her to say goodbye, Terri’s verbalizations changed dramatically. Instead of the happy grunting and “uh uh” sounds she had been making throughout the visit, her verbalizations at these goodbyes changed to a very low and different sound that appeared to come from deep in her throat and was almost like a growl. She first made the sound when her sister said goodbye and then, amazingly to me, she made exactly the same sound when her mother said goodbye to her. It seemed Terri was visibly upset that they were leaving. She almost appeared to be trying to cling to them, although this impression came only from her changed facial expression and sounds, since her hands cannot move. It appeared like she did not want to be alone and knew they were leaving.

It was definitely apparent in the short time I was there that her emotions changed—it was apparent when she was happy and enjoying herself, when she was amused, when she was resting from her exertion to communicate, and when she was sad at her guests leaving. It was readily apparent and surprising that her mood changed so often in a short 45-minute visit.

I was pleasantly surprised to observe Terri’s purposeful and varied behaviors with the various members of her family and with Attorney Gibbs and myself. I never imagined Terri would be so active, curious, and purposeful. She watched people intently, obviously was attempting to communicate with each one in various ways and with various facial expressions and sounds. She was definitely not in a coma, not even close. This visit certainly shed more light for me on why the Schindlers are fighting so hard to protect her, to get her medical care and rehabilitative assistance, and to spend all they have to protect her life.

I realize that Terri has good days and bad days. There are obviously days when she does not interact with her family, as they had previously told us. There are also apparently days when Terri is even more interactive and responsive to them than she was on the day I visited. Since this visit I am more convinced than ever that the Schindlers are not just parents who refuse to let go of their daughter. There really is a lot going on with their daughter and potentially, it seemed obvious to me, Terri could improve even more with appropriate care and 24 hour a day love that can only come from a dedicated family. As I watched her, my foremost thought was that on the next day, Christmas, Terri should not have been confined to her small room in a hospice center, nice as that room was, but that she should have been gathered around the Christmas dinner table enjoying the holiday with her family.

After PHILLY INQUIRER ran 21 editorials supporting Kerry, its editor had writers phone 100s of subscribers who canceled to try to win them back!... Developing... FROM DRUDGE REPORT.

The St. Pete Times is trying to win Terri supporters back who cancelled their subscriptions. I've gotten two phone calls and two letters. I've told them, I will not subscribe to the St. Pete Times until the day that Terri's free and safe.

If they keep calling for her to be killed by Medicaid, that will postpone indefinitely getting me back. It may be never.
