This thread is for those who got diddly, nada, zilch, zip, zero Christmas Presents this year (or any other year). Come and commiserate. You're among friends here.

And to those of you who offer the beautiful homily, "It's better to give than receive", please take the time to have a nice tall glass of shaddup.

Hmmmm? The easist way to cure that is to give yourself a gift. I've been doing it for years. If you don't appreciate yourself - no one else will appreciate you either.

And .. giving yourself a gift - could mean volunteering at an old age home - serving a meal - there are all sorts of opportunities.

I am only allowed to watch five minutes of A Christmas Story on Christmas Day. This year I got to see the tongue sticking to the flag pole scene.

My husband gave me the flu so I guess that counts as something.

I gained nothing but joy at the end of this day and look where I ended up, FR.  I gave a lot more than I received and that it why it was a great holiday, for me anyway.  It is about giving, not receiving.  After all, this is FreeRepublic, family, friends, love.  We give more than we take, the essence of conservatism.

I got part of the Looney Toons Collection on DVD from my husband (Bugs Bunny rules!), a nice raincoat from my dad, a CD of music from the court of Henry VIII from my brother, and an Oreck vacuum cleaner from my mom. She has one and I love to use it. In case anyone was wondering about them, they really are good vacuum cleaners, very light and easy to handle, and they pick up really well.

As I whined about on another thread, I got a crapload of candles. CANDLES. Why do American women think candles are so great. I got one that is so big it has four wicks in it. Geez.

They allow me to rent 3 DVD discs at a time. I had returned two of them, but not in time to get the next two in my queue sent to me before Christmas. As a result, I'm stuck with this one movie (Spinout) when I was hoping to have two or three to watch over the weekend.

I got other Elvis movies (like "Speedway") somewhere down on my list. :-)

All of mankind got the greatest gift of all - Jesus.

And once a year appreciate and celebrate this gift.

Because candles come in very handy in a blackout. They smell nice and give your home a cozy glow. You can use them around the tub for a relaxing bath. It says that the giver is thoughtful enough that you could use a small luxury and they went out of their way to pick out a gift that they thought you would appreciate, but obviously they were wrong.

Give me the opportunity to talk to your women and I will appreciate them, even without receiving candles.

Even to the point of them not thinking about giving "just" candles.
