Two parents, shocked at frank talk during a gay and lesbian awareness day at Newton North High, were forced off the property after one parent whipped out a video camera and started taping.
``This does not belong in curriculum,'' said Kim Cariani, who said four police officers and the principal told them they would be charged with trespassing if they did not leave.
``It's against my religion. It's morally wrong and forced in a child's face.''
Each year, some students at Newton North forgo classes during To BGLAD: Transgender, Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Awareness Day with assembly-like sessions including ``Out at the Old Ballgame'' and ``Color Me Queer.'' Students are not required to attend.
Cariani kept her two kids home during the day, but she was curious.
Cariani and another parent, Brian Camenker, were in the audience when adults in a panel discussion talked about being gay. When one man told the students he was attracted to his sister's husband, Cariani said she started to record the ``propaganda, false information and lies.''
The principal demanded Cariani turn over the videotape or leave, Camenker said.
``They took the two of us and pulled us out and gave us one minute to leave and if we came back on the property we would be arrested for trespassing,'' he said.
Tom Mountain, a columnist for the Newton Tab, was also barred from the assembly ``for the safety and security of the children,'' he said he was told.
Newton schools Superintendent Jeff Young said it is a violation of school policy to tape or photograph students without parental permission. Cariani refused to give up the tape, so they were asked to decamp, he said.
The awareness day, held for the past 10 years, is one of several ways the schools highlight diversity, Young said. Students who don't want to go can go to the library or computer lab.
You know - technology is a wonderful thing. Maybe it's time for a hidden camera at one of these "events". I'm sure it would be educational for all of us.
The level of repression that is required for the enthronement of this behavior is increasing, and must continue to increase until we reach the breaking point.
The culture has become unstable.
The state will now move decisively to take control of the children.
Something's gonna happen.
Ok, is the "gay" agenda something that exists only in my mind, as Modern Man opines?
Schools are not First Amendment zones. (I was a former editor of a high school paper, believe me, you don't get very far with that argument.)
Seems that they were in the audience, and everything was hunky-dory until they started filming. "Cariani and another parent, Brian Camenker, were in the audience..."
Welcome to the new USSA, comrade. Once you learn to double think, the rest will be easy.
No, I agree. There are plenty of "Blue Steel Conservatives" trapped behind 'rat lines in MA and elsewhere who are not going to put with the deliberate recruitment of their kids to the homo death-style.
It all comes down to this: homos can't reproduce, they can only recruit. Only instead of lurking in public toilets, they now run the public schools. It's a homo chickenhawk's dream come true.
I just read everything you've said since you registered on FR and it looks to me as though you are a troll.
Look up "Suzi Landolphi," "Hot, Sexy and Safer," and "Chelmsford, MA" and see what you find.
This crap has been going on in MA for over a decade.
You also couldn't take a video camera into the average courthouse. Here in CT I needed to go to a Superior Court and was turned away at security because my mobile phone had a camera.
I'm shocked, SHOCKED!
Are you and Mineralman...a sort of "tag-team"?
I don't know ModernMan at all. Please include me in the To: line if you're going to discuss me.
Nope. Our screennames are just similar.
What does this have to do with education. Is this a school or a taping of a Jerry Springer episode? There's really nothing wron with this kind of conent in your eyes?
I think they may be the same person, if you get my drift.
"I think they may be the same person, if you get my drift.
"
Nope. I'm not sure what your drift is, but there's no connection. I am who I am.
Its not the students being taped that the school objected too. This is not the first class that has been kept secret from parents. There used to be one in CA that was intended to help Teenagers adjust to society. What it turned out to be was a course on how to rebel against your parents. The children had to take an oath before the class started that they could not indulge anything that was said or took place during the class. This class only lasted a year or so and was finally abandoned after enough parents raisd cane about it. We do not have a secret society here. There is nothing that should not be allowed to be taped in a public school. If there is, you should start asking questions, the primary one being Why????
Parents who have their kids enrolled in the public school system need to re evaluate what kind of 'education' their kids are getting. If they can't afford or don't want to enroll in private schools, independent study or home schooling are easy options.
Might seem reasonable to you, but it's not written in law anywhere, and it's not enforced equally at all school events. So, the school is on thin ice, and is lying about the reason they tossed the mother out, IMO.
Nah, MineralMan has been around a good long while. Don't agree with him on a lot of religious issues but he is his own man.
