Blankley: 'God Bless' Immigration Hawk Hillary

A one-time top aide to the architect of the Republican Revolution is praising New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for her tough stance on immigration reform, saying that if the GOP fails to take action on the issue it could make Clinton president of the United States.
"I never thought I would write the following words, but: God bless Hillary Clinton," said Tony Blankley, one-time chief of staff to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
"Though her motives are cynical, their effects may well be vital both to our national security and to our sovereign responsibility to control our borders," Blankely contended in a column in Wednesday's Washington Times.
"Just listen to [Hillary's] Pat Buchananesque defiance, he wrote, before citing quotes first reported by NewsMax.com last month.
"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," Clinton said in a Feb. 2003 radio interview. "Clearly we have to make some tough decisions as a country, and one of them ought to be coming up with a much better entry-and-exit system . . . People have to stop employing illegal immigrants."
Clinton's comments gained new currency last month, when she revisited the issue during the opening of her husband's presidential library and told the Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, "I don't think that we have protected our borders . . . We can do more and we can do better."
Notes Blankley:
"Republican presidents and congressional leaders have for years effortlessly and painlessly given short shrift to conservative Republican congressmen calling to secure our borders and end massive illegal immigration. But they ignore Hillary at their mortal peril."
If the Republican-controlled Congress fails to pass immigration and border legislation in 2005, he warned, it would "set up Hillary to patch together an unlikely, but formidable, electoral coalition of disenchanted border-security Republicans and main street Democrats for the 2008 campaign."

What's funny is that a hard line against immigration would seem to be a typically Dim related issue. It hurts American labor which they claim to represent. Why don't more of them come out against it? Or more Republicans for that matter. It's the worst sort of pandering to a group (pro illegal immigration American citizens)that's much smaller then most people think. IMHO.

If our Republican congresscritters don't start singing a different tune on the illegals, the Leftists are going to co-opt it right out from underneath us. Only the Leftists will have an advantage in that they will not be deemed "racist" by the media when they start actually doing something about the illegals.

Also from Mews Max today :"Only 39 percent of voters would choose her for president in 2008, while 46 percent would back any Republican who runs against her, according to a Rasmussen survey conducted December 35". If the Hildabeast is not the nominee & another dem takes this position & the pubbies do nothing about it I believe that the dems win the election.

Tancredo troed, but W bitch-slapped him. Until Bush takes the initiative, the GOPers are afraid to touch it.

I sent this out to my e-mail list, and apologize if this is a duplicate.
Once again this falls into the Bizzaro-world of American politics.
The issue of illegal immigration has been given short shrift not only by this administration, but by previous Republican presidents who have been content to fiddle while Rome burns. Thus giving an "in" to a crass political operative whose own husband, as POTUS, gave it as much attention as Bush41 and the venerable Ronald Reagan, in addition to Jimmah Carter and Gerald Ford, as well as Richard Nixon, LBJ and JFK. The only sane policy in 60 years has been the "bracero" program of DD Eisenhower.
Ten millions illegal Mexicans, 20% of the Mexican population, are said to be in the United States, sucking up social services, clogging hospital emergency rooms, taxing schools and teachers already hampered with un-necessary and unfunded mandates from self serving and education illiterate politicians. Plus what about the Mexican gang problems in cities across America?
Republicans across the board are unwilling to deal with this undeclared invasion of America, and this issue is being handed to Hillary Clinton on a silver platter.
Wake up America, and contact your Senators and Congressmen, tell them go get off their a$$es and protect America's borders. Especially before Hillary Clinton rides this issue into the White House.

For some reason I don't think an atom bomb could get Bush off his ass on this issue.
To: conspiratoristo
The GOP keeps it's head in the sand at it's own peril.
This is a natural marriage for the dems, they are the party of labor after all.

What makes you think the left will actually do something about illegals? When has the left been for anything substantive, and not simply a collective bag of disingenuous hot air?

I'm sure if we looked hard enough, we could find examples of where she also said the opposite. The MSM allows the dems to take both sides of an issue and then just reports the quote that suits the story at the time. IMHO.
To: My2Cents
Like an earlier poster and myself said this is a natural pro- American labor position that I can see the Dems getting all over. I'm surrpised more haven't jumped on it frankly.
