They didn't win the PAC-10. It's that simple.

I could care less about Cal, but they got screwed. #4 and you are not in the big money?

I like Rodgers' high carry and quick release. I think Cal is a better team than Texas and it would have been good to have a Pac 10 and a Big 10 team in the Rose Bowl.
At least the Aggies get to go to the Cotton Bowl.

Auburn got screwed more than anyone else. I know it's hard to justify changing the rankings of the top 2 teams when the teams that are #1 and #2 have been up there all season long and finished undefeated, but I've always said that the SEC is undoubtedly the toughest conference in the nation. Finishing 10-1 in the SEC is like being 11-0 anywhere else, and going 12-0 in the SEC means more than an undefeated season in any other conference.

The only blemish on their record was a six-point loss at top-ranked USC. They beat 10 teams by an average of 23.9 points per game. They were the only school in the nation's top six both in scoring offense and scoring defense. While Texas got shut out by the number 2 team OU.

Here's what I would do: The AD of Cal and Auburn get together and hammer out a game after the season. Neutral site, highest bidder among all networks get the game. They get the cash, NCAA gets the finger, and we get one more great game.

If we are going to talk about "who's left out", we have to rank Auburn as the one left out in the cold.
Winning fourteen games in a row - going back to last season... Beating four teams ranked in the top ten when they played them - like LSU, co-national champion...allowing only one rushing touchdown all season until the SEC Championship last night...scoring on their opening drive in every game but one...truly a special team.
The BCS critics have predicted something like this would happen, but every year the supporters say that by season's end, everybody will lose at least one game. It didn't happen, and there is no playoff system to resolve the dispute...and the BCS Gods still rule NCAA Football.
Bring on the playoffs!!!

In my opinion, the time to complain about the system and your bowl selection is AFTER you win your bowl game. If Texas Tech comes in and thumps Cal they will have deserved to be left out of the Rose Bowl.

what's the point of the bcs if all that matters is figuring out the top two teams? why is #3 playing #8? how dumb is that? they ought to play the entire football season as a single loss elimination tournament... you lose yer first game of the year?--season over ... that oughtta leave the best two teams preening

The fourth-ranked Golden Bears will be stuck at the Holiday Bowl while Texas plays in the Rose Bowl.
Since the Holiday Bowl has had teams like Ohio St. and
other majoy teams and big names who now in the NFL,
I think it is the Holiday Bowl who is stuck with little
Cal.
BTW I would rather be stuck in San Diego rather than LA

I hope they get mad enough to run up the score on ttech, which is ironically a team that has no problems with doing just that to other teams.

Where is the press outrage over the higher rated Cal team being omitted from a BCS game? This is the same circumstance as last season, only it involves a game other than the so-called national championship game. Both the AP and Coaches voters considered Cal better than Texas why aren't they as upset as last year when they cried about USC being excluded from the Sugar Bowl? Just because the stakes are slightly less it doesn't change the principle issue.
Oh, I forgot. The press doesn't care about principles. They just care about what is "newsworthy", i.e. sells.
