California whine?? It was Texas that whined their way into the Rose Bowl. I'll be at the Rose Bowl game, and would much prefer to see a PAC10 team instead of Texas. The damned BCS has drained much of the aura of the Rose Bowl, playing there has been the dream of midwestern kids for generations. But, the Rose Parade & Michigan still will make for an enjoyable trip from FL.

George Bush reelected; Texas redistricts and get a Republican majority in our Congressional delegation; Tom DeLay is still majority leader in the House; Armstrong wins a record Tour; Texas goes to the Rose Bowl.

Good year to be a Texan .... then again aren't they all!

Cal should stop whining about UT. They real farce is Pittsburgh and to a lesser extent Michigan. The BCS should take the top 8 teams and pair them off. The conference ties should be severed. It would gurantee 4 great games.

I think it's a shame Utah is playing worthless Pitt. We will never know how good the Utes are. It would have been great if they played Cal or UT.

Cal's Rose Bowl drought reached 46 years despite one of the best regular seasons in school history...

Yes, that's right. Thanks for the memory.

My fiance and I were planning to get married at Christmas and attend the Rose bowl on our honeymoon in 1958-9 because my school (Cal) was going to play his school(Northwestern). At the last minute Northwestern lost its chance for a berth at the Rose Bowl and Michigan played instead. We postponed our wedding until the end of my semester (January 30) as a result and honeymooned in Wisconsin.

We're still married and will celebrate our 46th anniversary February 7 (and, by coincidence, now we live in Wisconsin).

One of the reasons I like I-AA football better than the Big Guys.

They have a playoff system. How novel!!

IMO, I-A football will continue to be a laughing stock as long as a computer decides who's the champion. Sorry to break it to all you college football fans, but the titles are meaningless. Thanks to the BCS, we'll never know who is really #1.

There are letters to the editor in today's San Francisco Chronicle suggesting that the BCS committee is sticking it to Cal because it is located in a blue state.

You can't make this stuff up.

?

I still don't understand why collage athletics are televised, much less the bowl system.

Teams have been getting screwed since long before the BCS was ever conceived. Remember 1994?

The whole bowl system is flawed. When Pitt makes a BCS poll and Nebraska beats them at home...puhleez. Should be: USC v OU; Aub v Tx; CA v Utah. Those would be awesome games. But no, Pitt makes BCS...Auburn, Texas, California, and Utah...all getting screwed.

Given that Cal got beat and beat resoundly should put this debate to rest about whether they should have been in the Rose Bowl.

If they wanted an invite, they should have played better.

``I think a team's record and the way you play should speak for itself, and you shouldn't have to complain about the BCS system. "

So when will they stop complaining?
