11:15 AM CST CBS News Special Report -Radio- What's with the "Special Report" status...even breaking in to Rush's show. Sheesh, this is a third page story. We all knew Rather would step down in the spring.

Rather retiring in March. Translation:
We here at CBS vehemently deny the existence of any problem whatsoever regarding Dan Rather and our news division. At the same time, we are pleased to announce that we have successfully addressed the problem which we vehemently deny the existence of. p.s. It is all FOXs fault.

Saw him in East Texas this weekend, at a small blue grass show,(w/ Billy Joe Shaver), and he looked/acted pretty beat up!

Looks to me like these outlets along with these special interest groups have been given enough rope and are now hanging themselves. dan blather had just enough rope with the memogate to hang himself. Couldn't have happened to anyone more fittingly.

ADDRESSES CBS NEWSROOM AT APPROXIMATELY 1:39PM EST [Partial transcript]: Nothing more important to me, no matter what you hear elsewhere, or whatever else you hear, this was a mutal decision. Timing has to do with wanting to seperate out of the decision to leave the anchor chair away from the decision about the 60 minutes report. The decision got made the way i described. Nothing more important than how honroed I am to work with the greatest news organization in the world. Thank you for coming. Not going to spend much time because we have news to cover. [Laughter and applause][Taking questions] Let's get back to work. Thanks everyone.

Dan Rather is stepping down as CBS anchor but not leaving 50 Minutes.
WABC 770am NYC 2:01 PM EST
WABC mentioned the forged memos scam and brought on a media critic of keeping Rather on the air
CBS makes itself irrelevant and with no credibility
Rather becomes the looney-Rooney replacement

Rather isn't retiring, he's just stepping down to concentrate on becoming a hard news correspondent. All likelihood, he'll still be a thorn in alot of peoples sides.

This is great, but I won't be happy until there's a parade of media people doing the perp walk and being led by Brokaw and Jennings. This is a good start and I hope that this is the beginning of the lib media purge.

Putting this into the "Hell Yeah" file.

Yep! The "Breaking News" thing I got from The Dallas Morning News on this sez:
Dan Rather, CBS Evening News anchor for 24 years, will step down in
March 2005, the network said today. Rather will continue to work full
time as a correspondent for the news program "60 Minutes" and take
other assignments.
For continuing coverage on this breaking news event, please

He's keeping the 60 minutes slot - and that's where he did his damage! That's where he launched the fake memo story! If he keeps his job there, might as well still consider this a whitewash. I agree with you. This is only a pale victory at best. As long as CBS has enough confidence in Blather to keep him on 60 Minutes, it proves they have zero interest in credibility or accountability.

That ole boy is getting senile, not that he was all that bright to begin with.
To: BigSkyFreeper
I'm with you. I think Dan will use the 60 Minutes slot to try to fry President Bush, the Bush administration, and the Swiftees.
He needs to go (now)...full stop!
