A statewide recount of the presidential vote appears inevitable after a pair of third-party candidates said they have collected enough money to pay for it.
The recount would be conducted after the election results are certified in early December.
Libertarian Michael Badnarik and the Green Party's David Cobb said on Monday they raised more than $150,000 in four days, mostly in small contributions.
Ohio law requires payment of $10 per precinct for a recount, or $113,600 statewide.
Badnarik and Cobb said they aren't trying to overturn President Bush's 136,000-vote victory in Ohio, but just want to ensure that all votes were counted properly in the face of concerns about Election Day irregularities.

That being said, the idiots at the liberal blogs are all full of it. You will see posts from a certain individual recycling all the garbage on every one of these threads. This is a non-story. THE ELECTION IS OVER!!! AND BUSH WON!
The Pubbies will have to hustle to do so in Wisconsin - a candidate may request a recount no later than 5 pm the third business day after the Elections Board received the last county canvass; assuming that they waited until the deadline of 11/12, that would mean 5 pm tomorrow. Heck, because it is (at least according to the AP) closer than 0.5%, it wouldn't cost the Pubbies anything (fee schedule is no cost if it's closer than 0.5% between the winner and the petitioner, $5/ward if the spread's between 0.5% and 2%, and the full estimated cost of the recount if the spread's more than 2%).
FLIP/FLOP! * FLIP/FLOP! * FLIP/FLOP!
It would be interesting to find out where the LP got it's money this election to launch major advertising campaigns in battlegrounds states. I have no doubt it can be tracked back to Soros.
Because they like to be trouble makers ...
Nothing knew there
Depends on the spread between the winner and the candidate (and it must be the candidate up here; Joe Average voter can't do it) -
Concur 100%.
Really? You both don't count for a blip on the screen put together, but be my guest.
This would let my home state spank the Lefties yet again. Love that smell of burning RAT in the morning!
That individual wouldn't happen to have the dem candidate's name as well as a certain cosmetic injection used to paralyze facial lines in their username, would they?
Then the Republican Party will have to go through and show how much fraud was involved in the votes counted.
Hey, dorks, it wasn't the Republicans with bus loads of New York voters stretching around the block in Philly.
And then let's have an investigation of vote fraud and count fraud in Detroit. Alright?
Good idea, Dan. You Wolverine, you
;-)
Not exactly--the recount will include the 93,000 spoiled ballots which they will of course interpret as votes for Kerry. So Kerry does not need a huge lead in the provisional ballots to win the election. This is NOT over by any means.
Is there a losertarian ping list? I'd like to see them defend this.
Every time I see an Ohio re-count thread I look for your posts and they are always there and always full of doom and gloom. What is it with you and Ohio, do you live there?
Oh no you didn't!
I new that.
Um......THE RECOUNT OCCURS AFTER THE RESULTS ARE CERTIFIED?
How will this matter at all since once the results are certified, they are done?
More waste.
