Ohio To Go Through Statewide Vote Recount After All(Gag)
WCPO CINCINNATI ^ | 11/16/04 | AP STORY

Posted on 11/16/2004 2:42:43 PM PST by dinok

A statewide recount of the presidential vote appears inevitable after a pair of third-party candidates said they have collected enough money to pay for it.

The recount would be conducted after the election results are certified in early December.

Libertarian Michael Badnarik and the Green Party's David Cobb said on Monday they raised more than $150,000 in four days, mostly in small contributions.

Ohio law requires payment of $10 per precinct for a recount, or $113,600 statewide.

Badnarik and Cobb said they aren't trying to overturn President Bush's 136,000-vote victory in Ohio, but just want to ensure that all votes were counted properly in the face of concerns about Election Day irregularities.

This - from a friend in Nashua, New Hampshire:

The GOP keeps trying to get a basic "show some ID" requirement at the polls but it always gets defeated. I think with the increased reports of fraud potential, there may be some momentum across the country to get better quality control on the process. If some vote fraud gets proven in the state, it may be the push needed to get something like this passed.

I will say that the new voter numbers across Nashua were huge. I worked the poll in my ward and people were constantly asking "is this where we register?", and "is this where we vote?" as they went by.

There were also a very high number of non-english speaking people coming to vote (this ward has a growing minority population). Doesn't mean they aren't legit voters, but since you have to pass an English test to become a citizen, it did raise a lot of questions among the folks standing with signs.

The Libertarian party is working with the Green party! It should be clear to EVERYONE now that the Libertarian party is the ENEMY. Libertarian ideals are all well and good, but ONLY when applied by REPUBLICANS!

A vote for a Libertarian is a vote for the GREEN party which is a vote for COMMUNISM.

I think you have that backwards. It should be:
A vote for a Libertarian is a vote for the GREEN party which is a vote for COMMUNISM which is a vote for the DEMOCRATS....

Badnarik is apparently a Kerry supporter. But I guess we knew that when they were running anti-Bush ads in battleground states.

The taxpayers aren't paying for this...the parties that request the recount have to pay the state

The last paragraph of the linked story says the actually cost of the recount will be $1.5 million

NH has a same day registration and vote? Wow, that's something our side over looked isn't it? We should have been all over that somehow.

So...do all of the contested-but-allowed registrations get counted at this point, or are they seriously challenged? If the challenges are allowed, then Kerry's vote count should decrease.

Recount will be good. Results will not change, confidence will increase.

Kerry is not driving this. It's the people over at DU and their ilk. They've gotten Moveon.org involved. This is an attempt to undermine confidence in our elections and way of government.

Sounds like some people just need to keep their names out there in front of the public for the next election they try to ruin.

Richland County Ohio, the first county I can find that released the provisional count. (Apparently releasing provisional counts from Ohio is a National Security Issue, as no one has released any info to now) BUSH GAINS 32! He won the provisionals in Richland 610-578 with 24 for others... Richland Conty

Perhaps you're right, but it doesn't make sense in light of his professed Libertarian beliefs.
