"They've both done good work and Ashcroft has done it under a firestorm."

I agree..I am grateful they served.

All Republicans should get off the Rudy for Prez. kick. While I think he was a good Mayor of my city of NY, he is not what we Conservatives want or need on a national scale. He is more Liberal than many of you realize, how do you think he was re-elected in one of the most Liberal cities in America. Lets back him for AG, he will do a fantastic job in that capacity, due to his experience as a Federal Prosecutor, who went after the "Mafia" on NY's docks and won many of the cases. We have a couple of years to choose who should run for the White House in 2008!

Sounds like Ashcroft worked really hard and then got sick. He's probably all worn out. Don Evans PROBABLY can make a lot more money in the private sector. That's my theory on their departures.

Agreed. Rudy was a fine mayor of NYC, but would make a DISASTEROUS President who would move the GOP farther to the left. Too many Freepers have drunk the MSM Kool-Aid on Rudy.

I think the money is one of the main reason they leave. I know that I heard that Tom Ridge would leave for that reason. The other reason would be, for the ones that have to go before Congress very often, is it isn't worth the crap they have to put up with.

wOw! Bad blood or was Ashcroft just tired?

Well, who knows for sure? I don't. I heard he has health issues.
Of course the ACLU will probably love this, the jerks.

Hatch? Are you serious? This is a man who has stated that he has no problems with Senator Sphincter as the Judiciary chair. He is another RINO, maybe not as radical as Sphincter, but a RINO none the less.

But it is possible to keep things like Roe v. Wade from happening again.

Concur, and the other things I want to see are,

1. SCOTUS forced to take the Emerson RKBA/VAWA case, and

2. Overturning the Lawrence sodomy imbecility, Presser vs. Illinois, and Miller. And if they really want to pull the stinkweeds out by the roots, they need to revisit Cruikshank on the subject of what a "right" is under the Bill of Rights.

I've got in to many arguments with my democratic workmates over Ashcroft. The left just hated him particularly the editorial dept. of the St. Louis Post Disgrace. Which means he must have been doing something right. The feud goes back all the way to the 1970's over forced busing here in Missouri.

As governor he was tight with taxpayer money, pro-2nd Amendment, and not afraid to be out spoken pro-life.

After 9-11, his job became as tough as GWB's. With no terrorist attack to speak of he must have been doing something right.

All in all, he did a pretty good job.

Problem with Larry Thompson is that he has accepted a bigtime Sr VP position with Pepsi. I would assume Pepsi pays much more than the government. THe AG job must be one of the most stressful, thankless jobs in government.

Unless he has some future politival aspirations, I'm not sure why Thompson would accept.

I think Don Evans is sick of the culture of DC. He's a good, honest man and it must be very difficult for him being away from the more wholesome atmosphere he comes from.

Off the subject (kind of) --- Chrissy Mathews is discussing the resignations right now.

He said the problem with Ashcroft is because he was linked to Patriot Act. Then he said that Ashcroft made people uncomfortable to be around, lost a Senatorial race to a dead man (then he laughed). Then he was too religious (where have we heard that before?)

Then, he said the main people upset about the Patriot Act are middle American Huh? But, he said of course the NAME Patriot probably turned them off!! This guy needs to buy a clue!
