...There is no doubt that John Kerry showed great skill at embracing deeply contradictory positions, but that does not make him unusual; all politicians have mastered the art of self-contradiction. What was remarkable in this election is that one candidate, President Bush, never changed: He said what he meant and meant what he said.
If the Democrats could not appeal to the moral values of people, that fact must have been lost on the 48% of the voters who supported Sen. Kerry....
I am just as mystified by Mr. Friedman's lament that "Christian fundamentalists" are ruining his America by fostering "divisions and intolerance." It would make as much sense to say that liberals are fostering division and intolerance by favoring abortion and gay marriages. In fact, abortion was not an issue in the election and Messrs. Bush and Kerry both opposed gay marriage. A ban on gay marriage was approved in Oregon, a state won by Sen. Kerry....
People vote for the president for a host of reasons that pollsters have difficulty in grasping. All we seem to know very clearly is where they live.... To explain the vote requires us to explain the variety of factors.... One problem is that they have only some very gross measures on which to work, such as the state of the economy and standings in the polls.
The pollsters do no provide much information because they usually gather too few responses to permit observers to cross-tabulate data into all of the relevant categories....
I draw lessons from the election, but not very deep ones. One is that the profound liberal bias among many big-city newspapers and most TV stations did not determine the outcome....

The man is clueless.
I vote on two issues: the sanctity of human life and national security.
Abortion is always an issue.
Kerry lost, because the Christians ate the Lions http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1274205/posts
Second helping of Lion BBQ?
Yes I feel the same about National Security and Abortion. I work with nice girls but they have no morals, one brags that abortion is no big deal and it is a woman's decision. They also feel nothing will happen in Hazleton PA so who cares about National Security. Such dippy women, very disappointing indeed. They also stay on their Birth Control pills all year "for year round sex with strangers" LOL.

Could it be because you did not have to be a rocket scientist to see how big a phony he was?
1) Kerry lost because the Democratic Party failed to throw Bill Clinton out of office when it had the opportunity. Good god-fearing Americans showed it the first time in the 2000 election that should have been a victory of Reaganesque proportions for Gore. Instead it laid the foundaton in showing just how morally bankrupt the Left is when it comes to maintaining power.
2) Now comes John Forbes Kerry...a traitorous bastard who should have been court-martialed...instead was given amnesty by Jimmy Carter aka Mr. Malaise. The only reason the election was close in the Electoral College was because of co-conspirators in the MSM and Hollywood celebrities.
Compare their message and hate to that of Ronald Reagan who ran on optimism and American values...and George W. Bush who gets up every morning and says, "Let's kill some terrorists today".
Pardon me but isn't this a value? I'll take the honest man every time. And kerry seemed to have a problem showing up for work or even showing up on time for that matter. Isn't prizing hard work and punctuality considered values any more?
He lost because Americans aren`t into a Communist running the country.
The truth is: Dems nominated the wrong guy in the first place. Only 10% of Dems voted in their primaries. If they get their base out to vote in the primaries maybe they will come up with a more reasonable candidate.
Why did Kerry lose? He was a Liberal elitist snob - flyover country has spoken.
I think someone needs to find out just what they put in the water in the big cities and the effect it has on the function of brain cells!!!
Yes, abortion is always an issue, but in this context, he's talking about what turned the fence sitters. If abortion always being an issue explained what happened in this election, then we would have had a second term for Bush41, followed by two terms of President Dole.
Kerry's can be summed up in 2 'T's:
I think what he's saying is that a significant number of Americans did not link abortion's legality to who won the election.
I agree that a lot of Americans didn't realize how important this election was in regards to Roe vs Wade. But for those for whom abortion is always an issue, that detail was not lost on them, and a significant number of pro-life voters did turn out.
I think you're probably right. The difference in the election was that Bush got that few percent more of the 10-20% who don't have party brand loyalty. Had the dems nominated somebody remotely likeable and respectable, I think Bush may well have lost them, and thereby the election.
Question is: who do they have like that?
"The truth is: Dems nominated the wrong guy in the first place"
Absolutely. I could not believe when they nominated Kerry, and I still can't believe that the election was as close as it was. (Only because the MSM ran interference for his record)
I still feel Lieberman could have given Bush a good run for his money, but the DU kook crowd made sure he didn't have a chance.
Kerry lost for many reasons, values being just one of them, but not the main, overriding one.
Until Democrats wake up and realize this, they win never win again.
The guy was a fake, a fraud, and had no personal integrity whatsoever. He flip-flopped, and had no sensible economic plan. He was untrustworthy on national security, and his hoodlum gang of supporters were (as usual) running around making a nuisance of themselves, taking signs from little girls, breaking into RNC buildings, harassing people, proving to the world what idiots they are.
Edwards is a trial lawyer, a crook who's actions cost the country dearly, and is partly responsible for the health care problems we face today.
Look at the rest of the democrat line up. Let's not forget, it wouldn't be just John Kerry running the country, look at the list of washed up bungling democrats that would have been wallowing gleefully in the taxpayer's treasury.
Morality is high on the list, but it's not a short list.
The question is why was it not a landslide. Kerry ran the most incompetent campaign in recent memory, with the major players being people who should be repugnant to the average American - Theresa, et al.
