ELECTION 2006
DONTMOVEON.ORG ^ | NOVEMBER 3, 2004 | BOB REDMAN

Election 2006

Of the 15 senators up for reelection this fall who voted to acquit Clinton in 1999, only one was defeated, but it was a big one - prince of obstruction Tom Daschle of South Dakota.

Now we turn our attention to 2006. The following 14 senators who will then be up for reelection also voted to acquit Clinton and therefore disqualified themselves for public office.

Moreover, all of them voted for the Harkin amendment to the bill banning partial-birth abortion. All but two of them (Byrd and Conrad) also voted on 21 Oct. 2003 against the bill to ban partial-birth abortion, all of them voted on 25 March 2004 for the "killer" Feinstein amendment to the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, and none of them supports the 2nd Amendment.

They are:

Akaka (D-HI), Bingamen (D-NM), Byrd (D-WV), Cantwell (D-WA), Chafee (R-RI), Rodham (D-NY), Conrad (D-ND), Feinstein (C-CA), Jeffords (I-VT), Kennedy (D-MA), Kohl (D-WI), Lieberman (D-CT), Sarbanes (D-MD), and Snowe (R-ME).

In the coming months this website will offer a series of articles on each one of them. Don't forget them, don't let them forget us. Comment: redmanb@mindspring.com

Robert Byrd will be 89 when the 2006 election comes around. I thought I read that the GOP has a good candidate to challenge.

I'd think that the freshman class of 2000 will be vulnerable. People like Stabenow, Corzine, Cantwell, Hillary could be targets. There might be some serious arm twisting to get Dem Senators in GOP states like Nelson, Nelsen, Conrad, and Bingaman to play nicely, or they'll have W's coat-tails supporting their opponent to contend with. The GOP will likely punt on opposing some long time Dem Senators like Kennedy, Lieberman, maybe Feinstein who are in friendly territory for them.

I know she wasn't in on the impeachment vote but don't forget Debbie Stabenow from Michigan. It would be nice to have at least one Republican Senator from our state.

I think Corzine will be the next Gov of NJ and one of the Congresscritters will be appointed soon.

Can't wait to watch the Nelson/ Katherine Harris battle in FL :) Libbies will be going nuts!

I think Nethercutt is well situated to "pull a Thune" and defeat Cantell in '06.

Who'd you think would be the best challenger to Stabenow? Someone like Candace Miller or Knollenburg?

Feistein retires, Arnold runs wins, introduces Amendment to allow nonnative to be Pres., gets it ratified, runs for Pres. wins, you heard it here first.

I agree with your list, but I don't think that 2006 will be a repeat of 2002 or 2004. Too many of these Dems are too entrenched in their states. I'm not that familiar with the sentiment in WV toward Byrd, but I know that he's showered a ton of pork on the state. Also, I expect Kohl to step down after this term and I think Hitlery will do the same to prepare for 2008. She'd have a tough time getting the nomination if she lost to Rudy or Pataki.

In addition to the ones up for reelection one has to ask how many Demos will choose to retire, since they now know that they will have even less power. Not to mention that the Demos also have some of the oldest aged people who may get sick or die before 2006.
All of these have to be getting tired of losing ground and know that the trend is toward Republicans replacing them.
Finally, one thing W has done more than any other President that I can remember is to bring in and introduce new faces to the American voter (Rice, Ridge, Martinez, and others) whereas the Demos have just been recycling the I look like JFK/I Sound Like JFK/I know What JFK would do crowd. And at the same time the Demos have become the party of White Crazies or Rich White people who hire minorities.
Look for a gain of at least 5 in the House and 60+ in the Senate in 06 and many of these will be Minority candidates that have been through the administration.
By the way do not look for Keyes again, great talkers but just that.

A lot can change in 2 years. We really need to focus on the Midterms in '06, and solidify the gains in the House and the Senate.

As for targeting Byrd....I dunno. I truly enjoy watching him make speeches (with the volume down of course). His hand movemements are hilarious!

I'm to jazzed from last night to worry about much for a while. It's time for a quiet prayer of thanks.

Jeffords should be a marked man. He used GOP funds and voters to get in, then switched. I hope he exits stage right.

Personally I like Candice Miller because of her name recognition as the former Secy of State. She did a great job of overhauling that outdated motor vehicle department.

I agree with you Chad. And if the media keeps being obstuctionist and our new leaders govern wisely - WE WILL make more and more in-roads to turn this country around! I am still praying for Dino Rossi to take us there :)

Yup. I'm hoping Dino pulls this off, and maybe, just maybe, many of the "middle" voters who vote 'rat because their parents did etc... will see that the Republicans are a better choice. That may help in 2006, and we can take down that Hillary-Clone of a senator.

I agree that Candice Miller's probably our best bet for statewide office. Which one, I dunno. Senate would seem to make sense since she just started doing the whole federal office thing.

I would love to see Rogers, but I feel that Miller has a better chance at statewide election. I just cannot see Smith winning the spot.
