As I and many of my fellow expatriates are often hard pressed to get any non-biased information from the media (we are often stuck with CNN-International!!), I have decided to start this thread in the tradition of the Operation Iraqi Freedom Situation Room threads. I hope this meets with the approval of Jim & John and the Admin guys . . .
The purpose of this thread is to be a place to collect information from all sources into one area for discussion. Specific threads for specific topics and cross linking are highly encouraged.

For the very first time in my small MAssachusetts town (23,000), I had to stand in line for more than a half hour. Despite being Massachusetts, two things were different this year:
1) The local activists who always had their house and yard festooned with Gore signs last time had an empty yard.
2) Suddenly, overnight, BUSH CHENEY signs had appeared by the dozen, in yards on the way to the polls.
Granted, there is no hope of a "Favorite Son" losing this state, but it is not going to be won by as much as people think.

Thanks for the ping!
I heard on the radio that there were long lines here. I got in the car to see (dad and I are taking the girls later to see us vote). There are lines. This is a small suburb in MI.

So don't look for too many MTV types to be voting today despite all the hype. You may be right. I think many of them are much more comfortable making slogans on T-shirts etc... than actually voting.

Just voted in Macomb County, Michigan. I was #28. When I walked out of the building the line to get in was already around the side of the building. All people holding umbrellas as we have rain this morning. Looked like people on a mission. Everyone seemed orderly and saw no challengers.

I believe there are millions like you that are not counted as OUR new voters and we will surprise in PA and elsewhere.

So don't look for too many MTV types to be voting today despite all the hype. Can you really assign your experience to the rest of this generation? Amazing.

Did the deed. In my Mass. precinct it's 60-40 'rats and the early turnout was moderate.
To: Rokurota
Anyway, good feeling about PA for Bush. I think the NRA in PA will have a HUGE under-the-radar effect. They have reps in every precinct working to turn out the vote of the NRA members.

Was the Republican booth plugged in? In NYC we use the heavy duty old fashioned mechanical booths. Big lever and little levers to turn the counting wheels.
But that does not mean the 'Republican booth' can't be reset.

Tony,
Does Ohio have the DOMA this time? Were there Pro-Life people there?

It is not yet raining in Columbus Ohio although heavy storms are predicted. It is very gray but still dry.

Got up at 4:30. Went for a walk around the neighborhood - needed umbrella. 3 times as many houses with lights on and activity. Left for the polls at 5:45. Had to park 1/4 mile away. There are 1400 voters in my precinct. 150 or so standing in line in the rain before the poll even opened. Got entertained by the precinct official with the "Here ye, Here ye" thing. Got to vote at 6:30. Line was getting longer.
Drove by numerous other polling places, same thing. This turnout is huge and early.

Can you really assign your experience to the rest of this generation? Amazing Yes. In general, I don't think voting is a natural thing for young people. I voted enthusiatically this year but when I was 23, it just felt very weird.

I thaink that the part of the generation that is more into partying will not vote today.
My nephews who work their butts off to support their families will vote, for Bush.

Hey, lots of people vote before work. Why be up early if you're not going to work? I'm skipping work today.
My wife is going out of town for a few days tomorrow and I want to spend some time with her.
I still got up at 5:00 to get in line to vote when the polls opened at 6:00.
