A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....10-15,16,17-04...T.G.I.F. at the Finest
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Bush - Cheney 04

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

I signed up, got the confirmation and everything, and was never able to get signed in. I do use a firewall, perhaps that's why. I got so frustrated that I gave up. Perhaps I should try again though.

Kitty Mittens and dansangel, I wholeheartedly echo your giving of thanks for those who create these threads, day in and day out - and all those who have become The Finest Family of Friends and Lurkers..:))

Forgive me for a blanket ping list of recipients, not able to thank individually all those persons who have sent side mail recently. Not yet out of some troubling waters, but want so much to say how wonderful have been all your missives, and feeling the prayers offered for my betterment and that of my grandson.
I have hope next week will see improvement, and I can participate more often.
(Still having some computer problems, too, though.)

Rus, I read the Daily Bread you posted at the end of Thursday's thread for Friday, hailing me.
It, as so many are, was quite timely!

"Take heed to yourself, . . . lest you forget the things your eyes have seen . . . . And teach them to your children. — Deuteronomy 4:9"

On Monday when my older son, Steve called, he as a lurker (MedProf) was aware of the great prayer response from The Finest for me, and we discussed how God is strongly weaving together His believers in these days.
I expressed my profound gratitude that although I never provided a physical 'home' for my children, led by God hither and yon all my life, each of the three walks with the Lord - the key to any success in this life!

Any success, of course, is not to be measured in material terms, but riches of the spirit and heart...

In 1957, I left a disastrous marriage to the father of my two sons, then 2 and 3, and although I then lived with my parents in Florida, they wisely made me be the parent, and they just the grandparents.
All parenting and discipline was mine to handle for 4 1/2 years.
God brought along my husband-to-be in 1960, during a recession that made today seem like the Perfect Society - men streamed down to Florida from up North hoping to find any meaningful employment to put food on their families' tables - many upper echelon executives were given expanded responsibilities in order to permanently lay off lower management positions - etc.

In 1961, then, he was such a victim, and in order to marry with the additional burden of Steve and Kevin, then 6 and 7, he reenlisted in the Air Force he'd left in 1958.
I had no reservations, more than qualified to be a great military wife as both a Marine myself and an ex-Navy wife.

The boys (who he adopted as soon as we married) and I joined him on Christmas Eve in 1961 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Our daughter, Jennifer, was born September 30th, 1962, 12 days before the Cuban Missile Crisis - and the day after Christmas 1962, we began the drive through Canada and over the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks, Alaska, our new assignment (for 3 1/2 years)!

Preparing the boys for the move, I sketched while I knew they would miss their friends in Rapid City, they should look forward to the NEW ones God was preparing ahead for them, and to seeing more of God's awesome creations.

In this past Monday's call, then, Steve (now 50 years old) interjected that they indeed always had this sense of 'looking ahead' from my discussions, and thus were able to take each step in their lives with confidence...and especially that they knew the Secret of Life is to know and follow our God...

You now know why my heart is incredibly full, and I take all steps knowing they are ordered by a loving God who bestows that love and grace upon us, no matter how we might have times of regret and failure.

With Him to hold us in His hands all our days, if we but believe in Him and His promises, His strength will become ours whenever needed...

With thanksgiving and fervent praise for our Awesome Father, and His provision of Finest Friends,

~ LadyX

Thanks so much!
Actually, the rain held off as long as we were outside! Besides it being chilly, it was a beautiful wedding and now I am under pressure to find a husband of my own!
I caught the bouquet, so I'm off to a great start...

Wholeness Of Life

Read: Mark 2:1-12

Son, your sins are forgiven you. . . . Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house. —Mark 2:5,11

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 43-44; 1 Thessalonians 2

A social worker told her colleagues about a young boy in an urban ghetto who appeared to be little more than a bit of twisted human flesh. He had been struck by a car several months before and had not received proper medical attention.

Although not part of her caseload, the social worker took the boy to an orthopedist, who performed surgery on his legs. Two years later the boy walked into her office without crutches. His recovery was complete. The two embraced. "If I accomplish nothing else in my life," said the social worker to herself, "I have made a real difference with at least this one!"

She paused, then said to her colleagues, "This was all several years ago now. Where do you think that boy is today?" Some suggested that he might be a school teacher, others a physician or a social worker. With deep emotion, the woman responded, "No, he's in the penitentiary for one of the foulest crimes a human can commit. I was instrumental in teaching him how to walk again, but there was no one to teach him where to walk."

We must point people to Jesus. Through Him, those with broken bodies, broken dreams, broken homes, and broken hearts receive wholeness of life. —Haddon Robinson

Lord, help us to tell of Your love for mankind—
A love for the sin-sick, the broken, the blind;
And help them to see by the way that we live
A wholeness of being that You long to give. —D. De Haan

A person may go wrong in many different directions but right in only one.

Active Worship

Read: Psalm 100

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. —Psalm 100:4

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 50-52; 1 Thessalonians 5

In his book Folk Psalms of Faith, Pastor Ray Stedman says he wishes that all churchgoers could stand in the pulpit on a Sunday morning and watch the faces in the congregation during the sermon.

Although most people seem to give the minister their attention, many have their minds elsewhere. Stedman writes, "It would be fascinating at the end of a service to know where everybody had been!"

To receive the greatest benefit from a church service, we must prepare our hearts and become active participants. We must become wholeheartedly involved in singing the hymns, silently praying as the pastor leads the congregation in prayer, and worshiping from the heart as the choir sings.

Finally, we need to discipline ourselves to listen intently with a receptive heart to the teaching of God's Word. We must develop a hunger for truth that quiets our spirits, inspires worship, evokes praise to God, and moves us to serve Him.

It's easy to blame the pastor if we leave the service feeling empty and discouraged. But he's just one participant; we must do our part. Those who get the most out of worship are those who put the most into it. —Richard De Haan

The house of God should be a place
For praise and reverent prayer,
Where holy thoughts our spirits fill
Each time we enter there. —Bosch

The heart of worship is worship from the heart.
