Of Bush, Kerry, and Bush's Necktie
My fevered brow | 10-01-2004 | By Laz

Posted on 10/01/2004 11:59:30 AM PDT by Lazamataz

I noticed something last night.

G.W. Bush's necktie was askew. It looked unprofessional. I wondered HOW in the heck that could have happened.

Then during the replay, I saw how it happened. When Kerry greeted Bush, Kerry held on to Bush's hand as Bush was walking away. Bush was forced to awkwardly stretch his torso, dislodging the correct placement of the tie.

I initially thought it was all happenstance. But on further review, I saw that Kerry made a point of adjusting his tie after the handshake, just in case the manuever dislodged his too.

Maybe it was an accident, maybe not. I think not. If anyone has contacts to Bush, please advise them of this possible purposeful action, or at the very least, MAKE SURE BUSH'S TIE IS STRAIGHT. I was focused on the tie, it looked so sloppy.

It may have been askew, but it was blue, the standard business color this year.

True. He had that going for him. I'm glad of that much.

Red ties are out. Of course, Kerry wore a red tie.

Pink shirts are in, and don't let me catch EITHER of them in one.

I think Bush should eschew the coat and tie next Friday, roll up his sleeves and talk with the folks. He's more relaxed and does a better job in "business casual."

I love it!

When I've attending cooking schools, one of the most stressed points is that "presentation is EVERYTHING."

I think the unconscious would not have noticed, but many may have noticed at least subconsciously.

You really should not mess with Laz.....

I am feeling gracious today. This one can live.

But if he acts up again, OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

The vast majority of men who dress in a suit and tie will always bring pinched finger and thumb to the knot from time to time to make sure it's straight. Bush obviously had a little more on his mind than this.

Category = mountain out of molehill. If you couldn't get your mind off his tie, you might have OCD.

Positively reeks of ole serpent head.

Did you catch Kerry's slip where he was asked about something, Iraq I think, and he said, "I would cut", but
then he caught himself and quickly said "increase etc, etc".

I don't disagree with the level of importance -- it is small. But, seriously, it was very lightly distracting.

And I have ADD, not OCD, so if Bush had repeatedly changed his ties' pattern and color, maybe I would have liked it more. ;^)

Studies in sales & marketing of oneself still indicates that the color red or burgundy has a more credible appearance with audiences. Blue is more neutral. Bush likes the BLue tie look as REagan liked the brown suit look.

I think Bush would be wise to go the dark blue suit, burgundy/red tie during next debate.

The same thing happened to Edmund Farquar, during the first Farquar/Lincoln debate. Now you know why you've never heard of Edmund Farquar.

Why didn't Lehrer throw a flag when that happened? He was right there. He should've seen the flagrant foul, especially if it was so obvious upon further review... Sheesh. Can't get good help anymore anywhere.

Evidently every JFnK's opening step was as carefully manicured as his tiddily fingerlies.

Ya know Laz, that IS something the demonrats WOULD stoop to.

I don't really consider it a stoop. I think it was somewhat brilliant, if it was intended, and certainly fortuitous. Perhaps the intent of the overlong handshake was to merely put Bush off his stride, which it almost did.

And Kerry's makeup job was done by Drag Queens'R'Us. It reminded me of the email that's been going around.

Red ties are "power" ties, unless that's changed lately. Kerry is on a "power" trip since he must surely, like Al Gore, think the Presidency is his birthright since back before Vietnam.
