There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
So did I. Otherwise, why miss such a topic and agree to the argument?
President Bush hasn't slurred a Mexican yet, so the dumbest Freeper thinks it doesn't look good. Get lost freak.

No way. I love GW to death but he lost this debate.
He started out really good, but Kerry looked much better and more confident in the end. Bush was reduced to a stammering stuttering inarticulate embarrassment.
Not to mention the camera caught Bush looking frustrated pathetic and annoyed while Kerry was speaking..which did NOT look Presidential at all.
I'm totally angry. Bush should have put Kerry away.

there are no friends of the President in Brit's "all-stars"
I disagree with your first point. Bush did state, over and over, that he will not go to the UN for permission and that defending America is his most sacred duty.
However, you are right on the 2nd point. He should have answered that last question by saying, "Nuclear weapons in the hands of the US is NOT the problem - nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists IS the problem." Although he did try to clarify this a bit. BUT he could have really zinged Kerry by pointing out that Kerry has way too much faith in the power of treaties to stop agression -- look at the failure of the treaty in NKorea -- and that Kerry has too much faith in the effect of US disarmament as inspiring the same response from our enemies -- as when he supported the nuclear freeze, and now when he wants to unilaterally give up the bunker buster.
I call it a tie, but do agree that Kerry managed to 'sound presidential' tonight -- as long as you didn't listen too closely! But remember, that's how he's gotten as far as he has: he makes it look good.
Oh well. I am glad it's over. But there were lost opportunities that will not be presented again, and this was Bush's best shot. *sigh*
Yes, that is an honest assessment. It's funny watching all the president's men (and cheerleaders) spin it to the contrary, when it was so obvious that Kerry won the debate hands down...whether one agrees with his positions or not.
Well, the Prez has 2 more debates to even up the score but it's clear Kerry scored some points here. Polls will follow.
You are 100% right. Too many here see this debate through their own filters. Bush did as well as humanly possible, and kerry was a stump speech presentation... ringing hollow in truth, and long on empty promises. He was as phony as ever.
I think that Newt had it right earlier tonight. He said that ALL President Bush needed to do was to IGNORE kerry, and focus on his MESSAGE to the AMERICAN PEOPLE. He cut through the bull$hit tonight like a laser beam!!!

Okay, I lost the server three times and posted the same message that many times--embarrassing. That's what I get for being in a hurry and keyed up. This debate was a heart-stopper. Karen Hughes is rockin' on Fox--she needs to be out there much more than she is!!
This crap is why this thread is so slow!
Everyone knows I was accurate.
I apologize to the Forum for my style.
I think he (Kerry) came across as boring. When the transcripts come out he's gonna have some "splaining" to do :')
No it's not the truth Howlin.
You voluntarily coming out here, condoning and supporting such a totally unprovoked, vile personal attack makes you no better than the individual that was responsible for posting it. *That* is the truth.
It's truly amazing what a stated *honest* opinion can bring out in people. The two responses from you and barlowmaker are beyond belief. It does not get any uglier.
Yes. There was no excuse for Bush letting that go. He let Kerry make him look like an idiot. Unfairly. I'm pissed.
"You have to take Kerry's positions tonight with a grain of salt because tomorrow they'll be different."
You know President Bush , knew that Kerry was full of sh--, but the great thing about our President, he did not stoop to Kerry's low level, he kept his dignity, and he was able to walk off that stage with great presence. Love you President Bush, thank you.
Most of us , never could of handled being next to such a liar, and bullsh-- artist.
I probably would been rolling in it.
He made physical threats on a thread the other night and was baiting so many people and slam-posting so much that the entire thread got pulled. No suspension. no warning. I don't know why he is still here. I was sure he was gone after that outburst, and I have heard of several since.
I think Bush was stubbornly steadfast.
I also don't think he's played all of his cards. Leherer is a liberal hack, and Bush was in enemy territory there in Miami. So, hunker down and don't budge. Not pretty, but effective for the first volley.
