JERUSALEM - Israel claimed responsibility Sunday for a car bombing in Syria that killed a top Hamas leader.
Israeli security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the car bombing killed Izz Eldine Subhi Sheik Khalil. The death was also reported on a Hamas Web site.
Top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) and the army chief, have warned recently that no Hamas leader even those outside the Palestinian territories was safe.
Israel's Channel 2 television said the attack was a new tactic in fighting Palestinian militant groups. The station said the tactic came in the wake of growing U.S. pressure on Syria.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad both maintain headquarters in Damascus. Sharon last week reiterated a demand that Syria crack down on these groups.
It's worth the study.
When in Rome...do as the Romans do.
Yay!
The general answer to your first question is "yes".
Actually, NO.
The terrorist make it a point to include innocent civilians as in women and children as their targets. The United States and Israel don't do this, innocent people do get killed and yes by us, but not intentionally, it happens in a war. We've even gone out of our way to protect innocent lives, where as the terrorists make it a point to target them.
That I think separates us from them.
Oh, I hope not, They'd be too humane about it, and use a guillotine. I'd want a web-video of them sawing his head off while he screams. Show THAT to the Muslims, and see if they continue to support the practice.
Should the "good guys" really start using the same tactics as the "bad guys"? What's next? A beheading?
Good point, however, the one difference I see in this is that the car bomb was directed at a specific individual, not a random act against innocent civilians.
The terrorist have changed the rules, and it is taking us a long time to catch up. The terrorist know they can not win a conventional war, they are hiding behind woman and children knowing our reluctance to hit back.
I am not of the school of thought that says we should "nuke them", but I see nothing wrong with sending in teams to assassinate terrorist leaders where ever they may be found.
If there are men that want to plan and finance terror against us, they should know there will be a price to pay, and that is their life.
This is the new warfare of the 21st Century, an age where any college chemist can mix up a deadly potion that can kill hundreds of thousands of people at a time. Nation states were afraid to use such weapons since they knew the retaliation would be swift, but the men that plan terrorist acts are not as restrained. So if they do not care for their country, perhaps they care for their life.
Does anyone have that black-and-white graphic of an armed Isreali in front of a baby stroller across from an armed Palestinian hiding behind a baby stroller, both aiming at each other? That pretty much says it all.

Payback!
Actually it's worse. His favorite current Red Sox player is Manny Ortez.
Yay!!
"That I think separates us from them."
This is true. We are a civilized society and do our best to function as one. That is our greatest weakness when engaging in activieties like this.
To win, you have to make it so bad for the enemy that they do not want to continue. They have to be demoralized to a point where they say no more. Our enemies use the media to do this for them. The media in an unwritten pact with our enemies has become our greatest detriment to winning wars. Eliminate access to the media and you eliminate a crucial weapon in our enemies arsenal.
Maybe telling networks that we will not protect them if they enter a war zone is the answer. The first Amendment does not say the government is reponsible for the press. They want the freedom to report, they have it. If they choose to join the enemy to report then they become fair game.
Targeting a terrorist leader is fair game in the WOT, in fact Israel has proven that it is effective. But intentionally targeting civilians is wrong, immoral, and cowardly.
Don't have it. I do wish someone would post it.
ahhhhh. Did he fall down go BOOM?
Leni
yep
It makes a big difference if it is the state doing these things or if it is individuals. If the state does this it is civilization, if individuals do this they are amoral barbarians. There are only so many possible acts, but the intent is completely different.
Good!! I hope the sonofabitch burns in hell.
