If I hadn't seen it for myself I wouldn't have believed it. Living on the west side of the Cascade mountains not far from Seattle I am accustomed to seeing Kerry/Edwards signs practically everywhere.
My husband and I went to the Puyallup Fair which is one of the largest in the country and draws thousands. Under the grandstand there were the Democrat and Republicans booths handing out yard signs, stickers etc. After spending all day and night at the fair I can tell you that 8 out of 10 fair goers who were making a political statement were either wearing or carrying a Bush/Cheney sign. Even more surprising was that most were young people. Even a few vendors had Bush/Cheney stickers on their tables. I did not see one vendor with a Kerry/Edwards sticker.
This is good news but judging by the number of libs I work with (I'm on of 4 conservatives) I won't hold my breath on anything good until after the election. We're going to the fair next weekend and plan to visit the republican booth for our sticker.
Taking my boys to the fair today, will take a look around and report back! Get to see Weird Al tonight (my 10 year old just thinks he's great...will be his first concert).
Call thia a hunch, or a WAG, but I would look for Bush making one more swing through this state before the election... Last time he was here, it was for a private fundraiser with no public appearance - He'll be back :0)
hey! I'm gonna be at Weird Al tonight with my young uns too... Went last year when he was there, but the kids couldn't go, so I have to take them this year...
Part of our group is the Base Commander at Bangor. The thought is we'd have a better chance, (considering this state has been teeter-tottering as battleground state), if the visit was focused at the local bases. If we're successful there WILL be accommodations for the general public. I'm not military either and want to be able to see our brave President.
Have you seen any Klepinger signs in your neck of the island?
I'm up here near Bellingham. Rick Liarson is very vulnerable in this district. I beleive last time he received exactly 50% of the vote.
I beleive the district is becoming more conservative as more and more people move into the district.
I don't know, Vicki. Snoppy liberals from Seattle don't seem to go to the Puyallup Fair -- so I'm not sure that what you're seeing is a representative sampling of voter attitudes.
Murray 48%, Nethercutt 41%. She's below 50 and Nethercutt has gained a lot in the past month. Nethercutt is the underdog but it's very winnable.
Ronald Reagan carried Washinton State in 1984 and 1980.
I don't know...Seattle is solidly D. The Eastside is turning D and Pierce and Snohomish Counties are also turning D. The Red Tide is spreading. I live in Mill Creek. I see 2/3 of the stickers I see on cars are Kerry-Edwards or anti-bush.
I really hope that you are right and I agree with you. Unfortunately, the idiots of this state will not recognize the errors of their ways and will vote Murray and Kerry. I would prefer Adam Smith or Jay Inslee to Murray. At least they can put two or three sentences together.
Which is exactly why we backed our vehicle into a parking spot (in Seattle) so our Bush/Cheney stickers didn't show. These are the same people who will snatch a Bush sign from a small child and rip it up in front of her.
Hot diggity dog!
I have to say that Adam Smith has responded to every letter I have sent him. Unlike Murray or Cantwell.
A lot of people on this board do not understand that it our party is in survival mode in this state. Adam Smith is a pretty tolerate Democrat. Unfortunately, I am stuck with Inslee. I wished he had run for Governor so we could have gotten him out of this district and we would have had an open seat.
Adam Smith is a pretty decent person and fairly honest. I appreciate that he does service his constituents.
Good luck and hopefully Rossi will win this election.
Just wanted to give an update to my experience at the Puyallup (9/20). Saw more Bush/Cheney signs than Kerry Edwards. I got two Bush/Cheney yard signs, a bunch of stickers I put on my shirt (Nethercut, Rossi, Heslop for Judge) and a button with GW's pic on it. Took our sons to see Weird Al, and had seats in the infield right on a major aisle where a LOT of people passed by to get to their seats. You couldn't miss my yard signs as you were walking by, and had 3-4 people ask me specifically where they could get some. The most interesting was a kid that could not have been more than 13-14 years old, and had a Rush shirt on that said 'the RUSH is on...Cape Girardeau, MO' (don't know the exact spelling). Pretty brave in the land of liberals, if you ask me! Most of the people who walked by wearing any kind of Bush/Cheney stuff were mostly people you would NEVER expect to vote that way, or even vote at all! Warmed my heart!
Oh yeah, Weird Al is a HELL of an entertainer. Totally G rated. Really enjoyed it, and was glad it was my sons first concert.
