WASHINGTON It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.
But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found.

Where's the LATimes investigation into the half-million dollars to Democrats and Kerry given by the president's accuser? A little more to the point, where is the L. A. Times's investigation into Russ Feingold and Tom Daschle, who were working to attract John McCain to "campaign finance reform" while at the same time they were planning to set up their giant 527's as unaccountable slush funds?

The trouble is, Google has a better search-engine than FR. I've found out the real names of several of my favorite Freepers while googling to read their old comments.

This story is SO pathetic. It's as if in the LA Times's mind, CBS is somehow at least partially vindicated because a conservative noticed the fraud. As if any liberal ever would have said something... Heck, every single MSM outlet ran with the Dan Rather story as front-page news, even though they never bothered to check out the facts themselves. They couldn't even acknowledge that Ben Barnes is vice-chair of Kerry's finance campaign, let alone scrutinize the memos. Where's the story about the media dropping the ball on that?

Another poster mentioned he used to work at the St. Petersburg Times. I used to live there. I searched their website for some of his articles(written around '98). Mainly "factual" pieces, but a couple of editorials, found here:
Death row dean shows how justice system fails and here:
Does the state of Florida really need to execute this man? The links don't seem to be working at the moment, I used the google cache to view the page. Nothing too exciting in them. I know some people that work at the SP Times, wonder if they knew him....

The facts are the facts! How can America survive if it turns out a conservative nobody was right, and the highly anointed Dan Rather was wrong? BLASPHEMEY!!! Hate speech and BLASPHEMEY!!! </mega sarcasm off>

is it they are shocked to find out Republicans can read and walk and chew gum at the same time.I chance to admit that the chewing gum is the hard part of the trifecta for me.

It's great to see conservatives taking the gloves off and firing back. It was so dispiriting in past elections to see our side flail away and go meekly into the night. They're used to the weak sisters they allow on their news round table discussions as the token Republican or Libertarian, like Gergen and Tucker and Scarborough and the like. None of them ever takes it to them and calls them on their pat little lies and their BIG LIES.
They drive me nuts, which is why I belong here at this "bastion of right wing lunacy".
Put it where the sun don't shine, LAT!
