WASHINGTON — It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service — a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.

But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found.

That's true, when I started reading the post started by Buckhead (hours later) I even noticed the "exactly centered" headings with my naked eye. I have to admit though, that I would have never looked until someone mentioned they were possibly a fraud. As much as I think CBS is biased, at the time I never imagined they would stoop to the level of fraud.

Side note: Man named Blum on with Olbermann said he's perplexed why Rather has dug in his heels. Went on to say when asked about comparisons to Jayson Blair that "nobody thinks Rather intentionally put documents out he knew to be false". Um, "nobody"? I'm not nobody.

I don't really see where they implicate him as the forger, but I do see where they make rather silly leaps as to assert that it's somehow illogical that a conservative would be the one to scrutinize memo's that are designed to be a smear piece against our President.

What do they think that an independant would take such interest in this topic? Or did they assume that some liberal would unearth it?

Regardless of the nutjobs at DU....just think about all the nutjobs in the MSM that will be calling, camping on his doorstep, staking out his home, contacting his firm, doing EVERYTHING they can to make his life a living hell until he speaks.

I dont' envy Mr. MacDougald,, if he is in fact, Buckhead. NOT a good thing, imo. And I'm sorry he will be forced to undergo this level of scrutiny and harassment.

It's not easy but Buckhead's identity can be found from his old posts. I just checked.

They did this solely to intimidate a private citizen, and they have to pay for that.
