A new independent 500-person poll from Rasmussen Reports conducted on September 8th:

500-600 is a pretty standard sample size in political polling. The bigger the sample population, the higher the cost and the longer it takes. So often times a slightly higher margin of error is acceptable when weighed against the other two factors.
Actually, I am very surprised that Daschle chose an attempt to be re-elected this year. Thune's run two years ago was very strong, and his decision not to contest was very smart (sorry, FRiends who disagree about this with me.) Daschle is in a very tough state for someone like him to get elected in. If it were not for the 15% or so advantage that being an incumbent, any incumbent, brings, he would have no hope in SD.
Thune, when he wins, will not ever be able to be displaced by any SD Demodog with that +15%.

The one thing that I will be sad about when Daschle is no longer in the Senate is missing this perfect re-re-re-re-re-post.

HEY: I LIKE that!!! Possibly ROFLMPO, better, but nevertheless, I think you've got the FReeper acronym of the year, girl!

It was my impression two years ago that Thune was really more interested in emasculating Daschle, and that he had his sights on him all along. Therefore, losing to Johnson didn't make that much difference.
He WILL contest any election irregularities this year.

According to the last polls, Bobby Jindal would get the House seat by 70 %. He's a Republican rising star. He will run for a higher office in the future - maybe indeed the Presidency. You can say the same about John Thune - he's another rising star.
They don't like anybody at DU who is not a complete socialist. Of course, when those get in "power" they complain about how they run an incompetant show because they can't get anything done tht requires a majority vote...

I also think so, although they say that she may become.
Bobby Jindal is the only good thing to come out of 8 years of governorship by "Republican" Mike Foster. Mike found Bobby and was able to see his talents. Jindal will be running for national office in the future.
Obama has nuthin' on Jindal!

Reid (?) of Nevada is next to Rule the Roost of the little cocks.
No, he wanted to run in the June special election for the House seat of SD. The White House and the RNC convinced him to run against Daschle. They say if Thune didn't win, President Bush would offered him an office in the second term.
I suspect that the voter fraud indictments in SD after the 2002 Senate election might warrant federal election observers be brought into the reservations by the Justice Department, much like they did in St. Louis City after the 2000 election produced polls open until 11 PM, etc.
Jindal for VP in 2008?
South Dakota is ready for a change!
May they all vote as this poll indicates!
In neighboring Illinois, however, Fitzgerald (R) is going to be replaced by a (D). So, with that, we are down one.
Anybody else, got more?
