Hell they would have been used in 1994

Exactly. Which is why wasting time on things that can be disproven is just that...a waste of time. All you need is the overlay of the Word document and the memo. While individual aspects could be reproduced, the documents would still be different. Heck, two docs from to different typewriters wouldn't overlay.

Maybe we need a thread on debunking all the forgery theories here. The ones that stand up to intense scrutiny should fall out and be the ones that we use. Frankly some of the threads have gotten ridiculous.

His wife said her husband rarely typed, made little hand written notes to himself..and this is a perfect document?..His head of personnel says it looks like a forgery.

How much do you want to bet that CBS doesn't have the originals?

Jenny, it's genetic.

Mine puts soft drink and cereal cartons next to the trash......"because they take up too much room".

Which goes to show that a male non-typist would not bother to center a heading, but would type it in a block justified left on the upper left-hand side.

Is it absolutely impossible that a retired commander might apply pressure to Killian on behalf of a third party?

Nothing's impossible. Not being a military man myself, I'm not sure what kind of "pressure" a guy who's no longer in the chain of command could apply.

I heard it also mentioned by one of the professionals that the curly end of the comma was significant, but I don't think it is. The problem with the documents doesn't, fortunately, just hinge on one or two factors.

In addition to all the points that point to the documents themselves being forgeries, isn't this relevant?

......But wait! Reader Amar Sarwal points out that General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.

That is a very revlevant point. I'm just glad that this did not break on Friday afternoon, so it would be "old news" after the weekend.

I have one thing to say about this entire ordeal:

FReeper Buckhead ZOTTED the Dan Rather Memogate

"Not on the IBM Executive. Remember, it has spaces that divide each space into three.
Cool - good explanation. I bet you never thought that nugget of knowledge would ever be useful (since then). Nice work."

The memos are still fake. I'm just really tired of people who have no clue saying what could and could not be done on the office machines of the day.

I've been writing this stuff for two days, and still people are saying stupid things about 1970s tech. There are folks here on FR who were there, who used this stuff on a professional basis, and can answer questions. There's no excuse for repeating and repeating the same misinformation.

It only serves to dilute the real message.

These memos are forged. All that's needed is the lovely overlay of a document made in Word that fits perfectly over the memo. Nothing fit perfectly in the 70's. I could take two IBM Executives and do a great job of duplicating the memo. You'd look at it and say, "Wow! I guess I was wrong." It would look so much like the memos in this fraud that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It would take me hours to do it, but I could.

But then, if you overlaid the two memos from the two typewriters, there would be all sorts of minor misalignments, even though they looked identical at first glance.

With modern laser printers that just doesn't happen. Everything's perfect, within .001" or less. That's why a printout from Word perfectly overlays the memo. Both were done in Word on a laser printer.

That's all the proof that's necessary.

21 - Bush's grade would "normally" be abbreviated "1Lt" not "1st Lt"

====

You need to remove this one, it was shown by someone on a thread that this wasn't the case in the NG in the 70's.

And Bush's own request for discharge shows him signing as 1st Lt. http://users.cis.net/coldfeet/doc27.gif

You have to remember Texas Democrats are the ones who ran off to Oklahoma and New Mexico instead of doing their job.

Texas Dems are evil!

If these documents had existed during the 2000 election cycle, they would have been used in 2000

excellent point.

I understand that. I was replying to a different and specific issue, namely that the commander's status as a retiree precluded him from applying pressure to Killian.

What was the name of the target of the 'two-minute hate' in Orwell's '1984'?

Emmanuel Goldstein. I stand by my original reply. Although the books spells it your way, forensic phoneticists have determined that it is indeed possible for the sound produced by the 'E' in the book could easily have been produced by vocal chords using the letter 'I' as far back as 1968.

And by the way, if he had nothing to hide, why didn't George Orwell publish under his real name? Huh?

Good point.

But, if DNC-BS had experts look at copies, or copies which had been faxed, then the experts' opinion as to their authenticity would be much less certain than if the expert(s) looked at originals.
