Tell MORE!!! I'm cable/dish challenged! All I got is a WhineGuard Fringe Area broadcast antenna that picks up All Sacramento and most Bay Area stations, but NO cable/satellite stuff... I wanna "blow by blow!" (if you have time)

My dad worked for IBM, and bought (at company discount,of course) a Selectric typewriter for my mom around 1970. It replaced the old Underwood. She may still have the Selectric.
I typed a few school papers on the Selectric and tried like hell to get the "th" superscript. AFAIK, there was no separate "th" superscript.

Rather should go the way of Jason Blair; fired and dishonored. CBS can either do the right thing, or get out of the news business. They would do better to replace 60 minutes with a Gay version of the Newlywed Game; is Bob Eubanks still around?

Are we ABSOLUTELY sure on this?

1. Who released these documents? Was it the White House?
2. What did the WH say about the documents? Have they commented?
3. If these are forgeries, this is at least a felony offense, and possibly more. Who signed these documents, and how do they compare to Killian's signature?
4. CBS will be in more trouble than NYT was over Jayson Blair. These guys are trying to rig an election.

We have to be sure on this. Fox was sure enough to go with this, which is great, but this is pretty serious stuff. Has this ever been done before in a presidential election - falsify a Gov't document, commit forgery, and then go to press.

Follow up question:

7. Would Dan Rather and CBS be allowed to protect their source if the document is established as fake, under the law?

I'll bet the FBI itself has a database of old typewriter fonts. I would think the FBI could determine in a matter of minutes whether or not there was cause to believe these documents were forged (btw, I haven't been able to access those CBS documents for hours . . . It appears CBS has pulled them, or its server is swamped . . . If the former, imo, that is an acknowledgement that this whole thing is a fraud).

Dan Rather was heard to mutter off camera, "Well, I guess a Pulitzer is out of the question now."

On DU, they're claiming that the White House released identical copies of the same memos, and that Andrew Sullivan said so in his blog. Does anyone here know anything about that?

I know it's a lie:

CBS faxed the copies to the WH.

Ironic, isn't it, that CBS and the Dem's seemed to be caught having "rushed to (political) war based on faulty intelligence".

Well..it IS Bush's fault..

if only he had been AWOL during his NG service, then everything the dims have said about him would be true, therefore there would be no smear. It is his fault for not going AWOL.

"Before tomorrow morning, Democrats will get talking points blaming this forgery and deception all on the Bush campaign."

Let them blame it on the French. Afterall, they're known to create fraudulent documents.

York spoke to nationally recognized expert who said this was produced on a typewriter, but other experts said no. But the expert who said typewriter possible was flummoxed over the superscript. The expert had no explanation for that.

I'm not buying this. I have used an old IBM typewriter in our office and retyped samples of the CBS documents along with some official Bush documents. While I'm not exactly matching any of the official documents, they roughly match in terms of margins/spacing. The CBS documents don't match either the official documents or my sample typing. Why would Killian have a special typewriter?
