New Questions On Bush Guard Duty
CBS) The military records of the two men running for president have become part of the political arsenal in this campaign a tool for building up, or blowing up, each candidates credibility as America's next commander-in-chief.
While Sen. Kerry has been targeted for what he did in Vietnam, President Bush has been criticized for avoiding Vietnam by landing a spot in the Texas Air National Guard - and then failing to meet some of his obligations.
Did then-Lt. Bush fulfill all of his military obligations? And just how did he land that spot in the National Guard in the first place? Correspondent Dan Rather has new information on the presidents military service and the first-ever interview with the man who says he pulled strings to get young George W. Bush into the Texas Air National Guard.
...
But 60 Minutes has obtained a number of documents we are told were taken from Col. Killian's personal file. Among them, a never-before-seen memorandum from May 1972, where Killian writes that Lt. Bush called him to talk about "how he can get out of coming to drill from now through November."
Lt. Bush tells his commander "he is working on a campaign in Alabama
. and may not have time to take his physical." Killian adds that he thinks Lt. Bush has gone over his head, and is "talking to someone upstairs."
Col. Killian died in 1984. 60 Minutes consulted a handwriting analyst and document expert who believes the material is authentic.

Thanks for putting them together like that. Should've thought of that.
I originally looked for a document from the same time period with Killian's name on it so I could compare type face, and then I saw the signature...
But take a look at the type faces anyhow. Definitely different machines.
I pulled the scanned copy of the document from one of those moronic anti-bush sites, but I don't believe they altered any of the documents. It was the most expedient source, when I realized there were significant differences.
I worked in a legal office in a small PA town in the spring 1974 that used proportionally spaced type on all legal documents. They were a big pain in the butt because it was really hard to correct mistakes. Everything typed had to be perfect (that was the requirement for legal documents back then, I guess)...needless to say, I wasted a lot of paper.
WOW! I guess THAT will stop CBS in their tracks!
lol! They'll wait for a bulletin from Minitru(the DNC).
BIG PING!!!
We started this WAY last night:

Now the White House can hire Ginsberg to sue!!!
I fully expect CBS to come forward and admit the forgery... IF they do not they should be sued for libel.... Its time to put the liberal press on center stage....
This should be very easy to prove.
The originals will have punches on the flip side of the paper where the keys struck the paper - no word processing back then.
If not originals or notarized copies, then this shouldn't have even seen the light of day.
You can't have a one hour campaign commercial for 60 Minutes unless you have something to back it up with, so this wouldn't shock me.
I would, however, like John Kerry to respond by releasing the rest of his documents just like the President did.
yep...
This hit job is starting to look like an October Surprise that was rolled forward to rescue a sinking Kerry campaign.
I wonder if that they originally planned to use it a few days ahead of the election; since it came out in Septtember instead, we now have an opportunity to debunk it.
So, did CBS get "fished" or are they active participants in an effort to perpetuate a fraud on the American public?
Or did Bush just happen to have his memos typeset--you know, wealthy son of privelege and all?
Pray for W and Our Troops
Don't be silly. The explanation is easy. They were typed on a Mac.
They are claiming, unchallenged, that the SwiftVets are Republican canpaign operatives and liars, and that there are questions about the President's service and credibility.
They are well practiced at manipulating public opinion, and know they don't need to do any more then muddy the waters with their mud slinging. They know the lemmings will follow their lead if they just keep them confused and full of hate for the President. The process was perfected in the Soviet Union and apparently admired enough by the modern Democrats and their tools in the MSM that they are taking it to new lows.
I'm asking again... Why are these memos damaging. What is the point CBS is trying to make? I havn't been able to pull all of them up, so I'm assuming they are memos asking for a relocation or discharge from the guard. We're talking 1972? 73? There were more pilots than planes. Logical that if he couldn't fly to keep up his proficiency, why fly? Esp a dangerous plane like the T103.
Can someone explain to all of us, why these memos are damaging and what is the point Rather wishes to make?

The last memo in the sequence also seems odd in that the son of one member of the Texas Congressional delegation is referred to simply as "Bush"; as though he's so well known at that point in history that he can be referred to only by his last name and have a reader understand who's being discussed.
I think you nailed it!
BTTT
Some offices had ten or twelve different balls
True, but what would make it proportionate was the amount the carriage moved from letter to letter. I don't know that the Selectric was that sophisticated.
"The signatures are not even close. But, I ask again, how are the memos damaging. What is the point that CBS and Barnes wanted to make?"

What is exactly damaging in the memos?

And this is what sKerry was doing at precisely the time there is so much concern over whether or not the President took a "Physical", (which,as some astute Freepers have pointed out would never have been referred to as such in an authentic military document, but rather as a "medical").
