New Questions On Bush Guard Duty

CBS) The military records of the two men running for president have become part of the political arsenal in this campaign – a tool for building up, or blowing up, each candidate’s credibility as America's next commander-in-chief.

While Sen. Kerry has been targeted for what he did in Vietnam, President Bush has been criticized for avoiding Vietnam by landing a spot in the Texas Air National Guard - and then failing to meet some of his obligations.

Did then-Lt. Bush fulfill all of his military obligations? And just how did he land that spot in the National Guard in the first place? Correspondent Dan Rather has new information on the president’s military service – and the first-ever interview with the man who says he pulled strings to get young George W. Bush into the Texas Air National Guard.

...

But 60 Minutes has obtained a number of documents we are told were taken from Col. Killian's personal file. Among them, a never-before-seen memorandum from May 1972, where Killian writes that Lt. Bush called him to talk about "how he can get out of coming to drill from now through November."

Lt. Bush tells his commander "he is working on a campaign in Alabama…. and may not have time to take his physical." Killian adds that he thinks Lt. Bush has gone over his head, and is "talking to someone upstairs."

Col. Killian died in 1984. 60 Minutes consulted a handwriting analyst and document expert who believes the material is authentic.

Sean Hannity just gave this thread and Freepers credit for being the first to ask questions about these memos and doing the research

I heard that. Honestly, I've never known of a more tenacious group of investigative reporters than FReepers (or FReeps, as Hannity called them). Good on ya, FReeps!

I think you found an excellent point..though it may have been his parents address also as it is listed in one form in 1968 there are documents in 73 listing the Westheimer address and with further looking I am confident you are correct..

as an aside look at this page 16 for a letterhead including a seal used by the ANG in 1972..obvious the others are forgeries and not written on letterhead..need the originals to check for watermarks..I dont know how to post the letterhed letter..

ANG LETTERHEAD pg 16

Thanks for the ping Misty. Do you reckon their big doc experts were Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder?

Especially Ray Charles. He's dead just like the "author" of the memo.

I get Hannity an hour delay so will turn it on. Michael Medved is on the other talk radio channel here and last hour he, too, said there are real and legitimate questions with these memos and CBS needs to account for where they got them, etc.

Hmmmmmmmmm

I believe that your Selectric actually used Prestige Elite twelve pitch, not Times New Roman 12 point. That's what mine uses. Looks remarkably like Times Roman.

Times Roman is a proprietary face, and so is Times New Roman. They are copyrighted by the designer. Times New Roman is copyright 1988.

Does this help?

The machine size "was modeled after the 13-inch writing line. A design was selected to provide seven escapement values of 3 through 9 units with three unit, or pitch, sizes of 1/72, 1/84 and 1/96 in., in order to meet the design criteria."

I have a table with the data for each letter in the Times New Roman Font:

For instance: the "4" is 6 units, the "i" is 3 units. I could email you this technical print stuff to you if you want.

Your a good detective or someone may know.

The following letter told Bush to report before May 14, 1972. That is a Sunday deadline. Is that common in the military ? I know its not a common deadline in business.

Compugraphic paper was standard litho paper on a roll, which needed to be developed, then fixed, then rinsed.

If you did not take good care of the chemicals, it would fade into sepia which could not be shot by a litho camera.

I shot litho camera from 1975 to 1983, also did pasteup and pre-press. I was very glad when they got rid of the old Compugraphics, the typesetters were usually too lazy to clean their machines and the type was always garbage.

No human being on earth would use it for memos. It was very specialized, for printing ONLY.

"If Killian wrote 2-3 memos to file for Bush, he would certainly have written at least one other memo for some of the hundreds of other officers who served under him. Where are those memos?"

exactly

On the other hand, GWB was the son of the losing US Senate candidate in Texas less than two years previously. It is quite possible his TANG commanding officer might keep more detailed records on him.

There is a reason that the apostrophes are straight. They had to serve as both left and right when making quotation marks.

You can't use curly apostrophes unless you have special ones for both left and right.

So the memo could not have been made with a typewriter.

CBS states that it "consulted a handwriting analyst and document expert

When they start answering questions that have not been asked yet, they knew they were fake and attempted to slide it past inspection by preempting an investigation. CBS is a real slime network.
