Kerry Calls Bush "All Hat, No Cattle" In Ohio Speech [another sign of Kerry's brain damage]
AP via WCPO ^ | 3SEP04 | AP

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry traveled by bus across Ohio Friday.

Kerry held a "front porch" discussion at the home a laid-off worker in Newark.

Kerry spoke to about 75 people in a neighborhood of modest, one-story homes and then later held a campaign rally in the town described as a mix between blue- and white-collar workers.

A Kerry spokeswoman says Newark was chosen in part because it has lost jobs, making it a good place for Kerry to tout his program for creating new ones.

Kerry told people they had to be part of the solution and not get frustrated.

Ohio's job losses are a key issue in the swing state.

Kerry also focused on his opponent's track record, saying that President Bush didn't keep the promises he made as a candidate four years ago and pledged to do better if elected.

Kerry summed up Bush's convention speech in four words: "All hat, no cattle."

"This president and the Republican Party will say anything and do anything to get re-elected, anything except take care of middle-class families that are struggling in this country," Kerry said.

Kerry referred to Friday's report of slower-than-expected job growth as one example of Bush's failed promises and said, "I don't think this is something to celebrate."

Smarting from criticism at the Republican convention of his military record in Vietnam and his fitness to be president, Kerry lashed out at Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

"If you think America four years later is moving in the right direction, if you think your lives are better, you go vote for George Bush," Kerry told the group gathered on the front lawn of Mark and Debbie Bickle's pale yellow, ranch-style house.

"But if you think we can do better, we want you to join this cause and change the direction of this country," the Democratic presidential candidate said.

Polls show Kerry and President Bush virtually tied in Ohio.

Bush is scheduled to arrive in Cleveland tonight.

That's an expression President Bush might use but not what I would expect from Kerry. Wonder whose advice that was? Thud!

Kerry has finsihed strong in one race, and that was against Weld. Weld never convinced anyone he wanted to be senator, and the Boston media was 110% for Kerry.

Here's that Eddie Yost thread, btw.

Dear Lord, there's nothing more pitiful than watching an East Coast lightweight political hack try to speak Texas lingo in OHIO of all frickin' places.

Oh, yes there is. Try this on for size....your husband is preparing for bypass surgery and you use it to push your political agenda. To wit, did you hear Hillary today? She said something like "Thank God we have good health insurance. I just wish everybody had good health insurance."

Shades of the Wellstone Funeral/Rally. TACKY - TACKY - TACKY - TACKY.

The perfect response to that is simple: we can have universal health care the day we have universal employment. And as long as the Democrats keep putting the cart before the horse, we'll never make that goal.

End of argument...and it would expose the Dems for the tax-and-spend socialists they truly are.

All Hat and No Cattle is EXACTLY what Kerry is. These lame projection techniques need to be calmly and methodically exposed to the masses, i.e. 60 minutes segment. All it takes is for some conservative to be interviewed on 60 minutes, expose the technique while also giving 60 minutes something useful so they have to keep the footage off the cutting room floor. Not easy since they're libs but possible.

I must be missing something---what the hell could "all hat, no cattle" mean? It is the lamest and most obscure down-home -ism I've ever heard, even beyond some of the strangeness I've heard from Dan Rather.

My Ultra-Lib nephew is running for Congress for Cincinnati's 1st District, against incumbent Steve Chabot.
Saw him at a family reunion over July 4th, but have tried to talk political sense to him for so many years to no avail, I didn't have the heart to argue the issues this time , just to ask pragmatic questions about strategy, etc.
I know he's already met Kerry on an earlier swing-through in Ohio, and probably will manage to link up somehow this time. He was picked by the local Dem org. last time around
when they literally couldn't find a legitimate candidate (don't remember the problem) As an unknown quantity he still got the full diehard 37% Democrat vote. Don't think he'll do as well this time, and don't think Kerry will take the state. Bush should have some good answers to the BIG issue everyone points to for Ohio: "loss" of tens of thousands of jobs.
