AP CAUGHT LYING: No boos at Bush rally in Wisconsin (I was there)
9/3/2004 | Trust but Verify

Posted on 09/03/2004 1:04:48 PM PDT by Trust but Verify

I wouldn't have posted this as a separate topic until I heard on the radio on the way home from the rally that the AP had reported the crowd booed when it was annnounced that the former president had been hospitalized. That is a bold faced lie. I understand it was later retracted, but that's like unringing a bell. I do not think it was in error, either, since the writer further stated that 'Bush did nothing to stop them.' Shameful.

The rally was amazing. I don't know how many were in attendance, but the crowd could not have been more enthusiastic. I could be wrong (but I don't think so) but I don't think there's any question Bush will win in Wisconsin. I have worked for campaigns before, and been to rally's before, but I have never witnessed the fervor I did today.

I have pictures in one-hour processing right now (I am resisting the purchase of a digital camera) and when I get them back, I'll try to post them. If anyone can tell me how to do it, please FReepmail me.

Go and get you a digital camera. You will not regret it.

I was at the Bush Rally and there was no booing that I heard.

I would like to know who was the reporter and his sources for this information. I would recommend that this become public and let's see if the reporter can defend what was stated. A public apology seems to be appropriate.

If no public apology, then let's track the reporters other stories to determine if they are accurate.

I can't speak for anyone else at FR, but when I heard about the 'Toon's upcoming surgery, I said a prayer. I don't respect his WH record, but I wish him well in this.

I posted earlier that I e-mailed Boston.com about the A.P. article. I heard from them. They offered an apology for their error and said they had pulled it. I was very surprised

Firat, NiCad cells are 1.2 V each and the metal hydride batteries are 1.5 V each just like an alkaline battery. Some electronics will not work properly on the reduced voltage NiCads.

Second, they don't develope a "memory", i.e. they last MUCH longer than NiCads especially if you put them in a piece of equipment that you rarely use.

Third, they cannot be charged ont he same type of charger as a NiCad, because unlike a NiCad, they don't peak in voltage at max charge and then drop slightly. They will just keep charging until you burn them up in a NiCad charger.

The AP Changes "Boos" to "Ooohs" in Report on Bush and Clinton

By E & P Staff

Published: September 03, 2004 10:00 PM EST

NEW YORK The Associated Press changed "boos" to "ooohhs" Friday afternoon in reporting on President George Bush's first statement to supporters on the heart ailment that has befallen former President Bill Clinton.

In a dispatch sent to subscribers in early afternoon, the AP reported that when Bush, at a campaign rally in West Allis, Wisconsin, told the crowd that he wished to send Clinton his "best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery," the audience "of thousands booed. Bush did nothing to stop them."

Pretty damning, except that AP soon changed its story, only after the original appeared on many Web sites.

Several Web sites revealed that AP "retracted" the report "citing uncertainties about how to characterize the crowd's reaction."

The new version moved on the wire Friday described the same incident this way, after relating Bush's remarks: "The crowd reacted with applause and with some 'ooohs,' apparently surprised by the news that Clinton was ill."

A Knight Ridder/Tribune (KRT) report put it this way: "Some in Bush's audience booed when he wished Clinton well...." The AFP wire report declared that after Bush's statement "thousands of boisterous supporters clapped respectfully."

Snopes is a Leftist site, run by a team of Leftists, who have abused their debunking reputation to advance the Leftist agenda.

They have gone to extensive lengths to debunk the Clinton Body Count, and have linked to a Bush Body Count in its place.

During the combat ops of Iraqi Freedom, they outed themselves by posting a disclaimer on their site supporting the anti-war movement, and dissing MY mission.

I have urged all FReepers for the past sixteen months, do NOT give them the web hit and the ad dollars these Leftists so desparately want; let them suckle at Soros's teat for all they want.

Of course this article doesn't mention that you can't (or I can't) hear any booing in the audio. Soon the story will come out that the AP reporter heard "one" person booing. Can't prove it one way or the other...

got a particular page or topic they have screwed up on? I only ask since I somewhat rely on them for disproving urban legends and such.

Alamo-Girl versus Snopes. When it comes to political topics, Snopes will set up a strawman (in support of the Demi/liberal, of course), then knock it down.

You have to parse their political "debunkings" VERY carefully. Kind of like with the previous president. ;-)

Call News Desk here: 212-621-1500
and Corporate Headquarters here: 212-621-6060

Also email: info@ap.org

I called tonight and sent this email:

AP News Service:

At 13:57 today, AP News issued a false report of booing at a Bush Rally when the President announced prayers and good wishes for the speeding recovery of former President Clinton.

I understand that a later report did not mention any booing. However, many Americans will only know of the original report and not the later corrected one.

Eye witnesses at the Bush Rally report there was silent respect and NO BOOS when the President asked for prayers for Mr. Clinton.

The real story here is who with AP wire service put out the false report which portrayed President Bush and the Rally attendee as mean and heartless?

I request that AP issue a prompt public apology to President Bush and those at the Rally.

In addition, I request that the individual who put out the false report be reprimanded.

You can check into who was in charge of the news room that by looking at the time of the report.

She covers the night news desk.

Please read my email to them and speak up as I did.

The liberal media will be the biggest loser in the Bush landslide. Say goodnight to them, they are in the throws of death. After this election, they will never be taken seriously again when it comes to politics. Poor George Soros, all those millions invested, and nothing but ruin and ashes to show for it.
