That was an old Appalachian country boy tellin' 'em what fer!

Exactly and Reagan democrats will understand what talking heads have no clue about.

Just as the talking squashes declared Gore the winner over Bush in each debate only to learn later that the floks thought Bush was better, they will once again be proven to have nothing but squash in their noggins.

Rich Lowry just said the same thing, that he came across as angry... He's not the only one, and he's VERY conservative.

That's because he was angry. His passion and anger are what made the speech so effective. He was not talking about a bond issue for a school, he was talking about war and the security of his family. He is angry that the Dems don't have the judgment to prosecute the war against terror and call our soldiers occupiers instead of liberators.

Cheney: "I'm sure glad Zell Miller's on our side"

That line is even good a second time around. It HAS to have been an ad lib.

Turned tv off so would have missed it but for your post. Marking for morning.

Zell WAS angry. He was a guy who was committing political suicide out of principle and he was mad his party had abandon him. He made a LOT of sense though which made his anger rightous - he was speaking with all his heart and soul. It can't be easy going against the party you've been in and voted for all your life. Dang right he's angry.

FNC's lib pundit Cici Connelly (sp?) just repeated the same ole "rage" criticism for the umteenth time, and she was upset that no speaker at the convention tonight talked about "health care, education, social security," etc. They're melting down in a big way.

They aren't that undecided.

We can only hope they will be different after 9-11.

They hammered Miller with pre-prepared questions about GOP hypocrisy on weapons/fighter jet/tank funding.

I presume you are talking about the Democratic talking points FAXed to them for use against Miller.

I'll back you up on that, wardaddy. I lived in Boston for four years (after which I did not chant "four more years"). NYC Republican and Oceanview are showing that pistol wipped pessimism that I suffered while living east of Interstate 95. They don't seem to understand that there is firm land west of the Hudson River. Apparantly, they have no faith in us.

We should get that speech out to the Dims we know on video. Tell them, "that after watching this speech, and you still want to throw your vote to Kerry, I won't say another word".

I note that you DID NOT address my point. You said:

AND I QUOTE: "I'm as conservative as they come... I'm basing my views partly on how the media have taken numerous GOP (primarily Bush) speeches and events

I say to you AGAIN, most conservatives don't base their views the media. But you apparently do. I WONDER WHY?

My mother, who is a lifelong democrat (from Georgia) called right after his speech. She said something like "You just gotta love a strong, passonate Southern gentleman."

She also mentioned she didn't like McCain too much either because of his comments.

Zell was magnificent and the two people, from N.Y.C.,who don't like it,are too young to understand that politics used to be like this, that strong men use strong speech.

They should go back and read earlier political speeches. :-)

But there is a place for anger. Zell was like the grandpa who occassionally raises his voice to succintly set you straight when he thinks you aren't grasping the seriousness of the situation. And most of us listen to that grandpa, and it is impactful, far more so than the 'timeouts', negotiating, and pleading of our parents that we become somewhat numb to.

I think that we're the only 2 on this whole thread that thinks this whole thing may be spun by the media to be a net negative to President Bush. He should have said his piece, and left it at that.

Actually, there seems to be three of you! I understand your concerns, but I'm afraid you've failed to notice a crucial change that has recently occurred - the media's power to spin an issue however they wish, and thus to define reality, has been fatally pierced (Thank You, Swiftvets!) and is melting away like the winter snows in Spring. Let them spin - it won't matter, and they'll just dig themselves deeper.

Zell Miller just woke up the Reagan Democrats, the blue collar guys and gals, the cops the firemen, the hardhats. I know these people, hell I am those people.

I can't catch up here but I keep reading your posts and I agree entirely. Zell Miller didn't give a hate speech, he gave a speech of passion, love for a country that has defended freedom for decades, love for a military that liberates people, etc. etc. etc.

The stuffed shirts on television have no clue what makes American's hearts tick but Zell Miller does.
